Major regret!

Garbage software! If it weren't for the ability to use it for free, I wouldn't have ever used it at all! Customer support is extremely rude. I couldn't even collect one payment from a customer without being asked a million questions and having to submit a bunch of documentation. Worst part yet, I had to link my bank account so that they could go and look through all of my bank statements for transactions linked to the business! Talk about invasive! But because I had a new bank account, they turned down and closed my account and now I'm out $350 thanks to these guys! Worst experience ever! 100 thumbs down! 👎👎👎👎👎

They have locked my account, after getting a email that says the account has been verified and restore. It is still not i am pissed

Square will steal your private data…

Square will steal your private data without consent and use it without permission. I never once consented to provide my email to square. They stole it from a store I used Apple Pay at. I asked them to delete my data they refused. I jumped through hoops to change my data settings in their system and it made no difference. They are still using my personal data without consent. They are operating illegally and refusing to cooperate with my request to delete my data. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

They seems to be completly missing the point every time. I gave my email ONLY to the store. I did not agree to give my email to Square. Capturing and storing my email without permission is a violation of privacy and I should not have to jump through hoops to delete my data that you stole. You are fully capable of deleting my data

We’re sorry to hear about the experience you’ve had. Square doesn’t receive your email from Apple Pay. Your email enters Square’s system to send receipts when it’s typed into a Square screen (in store or online) to get a digital receipt. That can only happen if you entered your email for a receipt or checkout with a business that uses Square - inclusive of if you previously used Apple Pay for an online purchase with a Square seller. The email is shared with the merchant (with your approval on the payment screen), and Square links it to your card/Apple Pay digital card for future receipts.

Once an email is on file for that card, other businesses that use Square can automatically send receipts to the same address. Those businesses only see a masked version of your email, not the full address unless you give it to them directly. The intention here is to reduce friction points to receive receipts for your purchases.

You can turn this off at any time. From the bottom of any Square receipt email, click “Manage preferences” to turn off automatic receipts, or click “Not your receipt?” to unlink your email from that card entirely.

Angel and Rhu were great. It took many suggestions and emails to realize that the only solution was on Square's end not mine. Took several weeks.

I just bought a birthday present for my wife--she got the receipt!!

I just bought a birthday present for my wife in her favorite store with my credit card--only to find out that the receipt for the purchase along with the price was sent to my wife's gmail!! So, now she knows what I bought and how much I paid. A couple of weeks ago, I bought very expensive meat at my little organic butcher--and used my credit card. A complete receipt was sent to my wife's gmail, not mine!! I HATE Square. Total invasion of privacy. Need a verbal choice--by the vendor--for sending/not sending these emails. I will use cash at these stores next time.

When a business uses Square, digital receipts are sent to the email or phone number that’s already associated with the card in Square’s system, which may have been provided at that business or at another business that also uses Square. That contact information and receipt preference can be updated or removed by the buyer, and sellers can also choose not to collect emails or to print receipts instead.

If you’d prefer not to receive digital receipts at a particular address in future, you can update your preferences using the “Manage preferences” link at the bottom of a Square receipt email, or ask the business to issue a printed receipt or no receipt at all when you pay. We know this doesn’t change what happened here, but we hope these options help prevent it from happening again.

I’ve had a great experience using…

I’ve had a great experience using Square for my business. It’s incredibly user-friendly and makes managing sales, payments, and customer interactions seamless. The setup was quick, and I was able to start accepting payments almost immediately, which was a huge plus.
I would definitely recommend!!!

Square does not stand behind their customers and will side with the customer when there are disputes. they are not business friendly avoid there are way better options out there.

With card payments, the customer’s bank (not Square) is the one that ultimately decides the outcome of a chargeback. When a dispute is filed, Square submits evidence and challenges it on the seller’s behalf using the documentation you provide (receipts, contracts, proof of delivery, messages, etc.), but we can’t overrule the bank’s final decision. Square has help the accounts money and won't take any action to resolve the issue they claim is under review. They said no documents are needed, no email has been received and nobody on their team can speak English correctly and don't care about their customers. They are going to loose one 100%.

My account was deactivated after I tried for a month to get them to tell me what was wrong!

My account was deactivated after I did everything they asked. When I get the deactivation notice, they didn't even specify what was wrong, just a general "violation of general terms." When I looked that up, there is about 20 pages of "general terms." When I called them, they couldn't tell me why either, they had to send it to another section of Square and said for the fourth time they would be back with me in 2-5 days! Of course, for the fourth time, they never got back to me. Their customer service is a sham!
They really don't really "care" about any business, it's all BS! If they really cared, they would have someone you could talk to to get some answers, but not Square!!
Here is the message they sent me, "Hello Timothy,
We recently reviewed your account, and have unfortunately found activity that violates our Terms of Service including but not limited to the following:
Section 3 General Terms
Section 3 Payment Terms
We are sorry to inform you that due to this activity, your account is now deactivated, and we are no longer able to accept payments related to your business."
Even the address they sent it from, they never send you anything you can reply to, it's always noreply@!

POS hardware is terrible

POS hardware is terrible, the chip reader does not work properly, the say there is warranty but the make you go thru an infinite process before doing anything about it.

I’ve been 3 hrs on the chat with them, been disconnected 4 times and had to start my conversation again .. and yet nothing solved

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an interaction I recently had with one of your customer service representatives, who identified himself only as “Jay.” During this exchange, I was asked to provide sensitive personal information, including my Social Security number, email address, and phone number.

While I understand that identity verification is sometimes necessary to protect account security, I was deeply concerned by the representative’s inability or unwillingness to provide his full name or any verifiable identification. As a customer, I expect transparency and professionalism, particularly when sensitive information is being requested. The lack of proper identification raised serious concerns about the legitimacy of the request and the security of my personal data.

Furthermore, I find it troubling that a reputable payment processing company would employ individuals who appear to use incomplete or potentially unverified names while having access to customer and partner information. This experience has significantly undermined my confidence in your customer service practices. In addition, the representative demonstrated limited customer service skills, which contributed to confusion and discomfort throughout the interaction.

customer service lacks heavily

I am giving 1 star for ease and freedom of being able to run a small business effortlessly. However I am removing 1 star for lack of being able to understand employees who help troubleshoot. I am also removing a star for everyone I have spoke to says their hands are tied and can't help with transferring my business. I am also removing a star for the length of time that a customer needs to wait for an answer "solution" that I never recieved.
