Poor Communication and Unmet Commitments - Significant Project Delays and Losses
I'm extremely disappointed with my experience with SteelDash and feel compelled to warn others about their poor communication and inability to honor confirmed agreements.
Initial Order:
I originally ordered materials in 12-foot lengths, 14-gauge steel, with an estimated 3-week delivery timeframe. Everything seemed straightforward at the beginning.
First Issue - Gauge Change:
One week before delivery, I received an email stating they didn't have 14-gauge material available and offered to substitute with 12-gauge instead. While this was frustrating, I understood supply chain challenges happen. I made adjustments to my project plans to accommodate this change.
Second Issue - Length Modification:
During this exchange, I requested a modification to 13-foot lengths instead of 12-foot to better suit my revised project needs. I received email confirmation that this change was approved, and I proceeded to make payment based on this confirmation. Trusting their confirmation, I made significant modifications to my project design and timeline.
The Problem - Complete Failure to Deliver as Confirmed:
When the materials finally arrived and I began installation, I discovered they had sent:
14-gauge material (the original gauge they said was unavailable)
12-foot lengths (not the confirmed 13-foot lengths)
Adding insult to injury, I then noticed an email sent the day before delivery buried in my inbox stating they were reverting the changes and refunding the difference. This last-minute notification gave me zero opportunity to make alternative arrangements or adjustments.
The Impact:
This complete lack of organization and communication between their sales and fulfillment departments caused me:
Significant project delays
Wasted time redesigning my project twice
Financial losses due to having to source alternative materials on short notice
Loss of credibility with my own clients due to delays
Customer Service Response:
When I reached out to address these issues, I received absolutely no meaningful assistance or accountability from the company. No apology, no compensation, no effort to make things right.
Conclusion:
What's most frustrating is that I tried to be flexible and accommodating when they had supply issues. However, their inability to maintain accurate records, communicate changes proactively, and honor confirmed modifications demonstrates a fundamental lack of professionalism.
I cannot recommend SteelDash to anyone working on time-sensitive projects or anyone who values reliable communication. The chaos in their internal processes will likely become your chaos.
Would I order from them again? Absolutely not.
Do I recommend them? No, unless you enjoy project delays, miscommunication, and taking on unnecessary risk.
