The team from Surrey Marble & Granite…

The team from Surrey Marble & Granite have been brilliant from the initial inquiry. We had a visit from the MD to sense check all details and ensure we could fit the kitchen sink we desired.

When the team came to do the template for the stone they were able to leave the old worktops in place until they came to fit the new ones. This is often not the case and allowed us to use our kitchen as normal between the template and install.

The attention to detail the team showed was incredible, they were so friendly, quick and tidy.
We are delighted with the result and would absolutely recommend this company.

Great service and product

I am a repeat customer of Surrey Marble and Granite. I have had kitchen worktops done for myself and my Dad, a fireplace and most recently, two vanity units and a couple of window sills. This work has spanned over ten years and on all occasions I have received excellent communications and a top quality product. The team cleaned up after themselves and were engaging and cheerful and I was really pleased I used them.

Appalling Company to deal with

Absolutely appalling company to deal with! Firstly they came to template the worktop, but when at our property they claimed that the kitchen units weren't properly installed and charged us £200 for a return visit! Apparently the charge was because the employee had to come from further away, where were they coming from Spain!

Also, the manners of the employee that attended that day was awful which I emailed the company about. I received the following response "His father was terminally ill and died 2 days after his visit so he was in a bit of a state and probably shouldn’t have been at work". In this individuals defence their mindset probably had a lot to with the assessment that the kitchen cabinets weren't properly installed. We didn't change anything prior to the return visit other than removing a plug behind the cooker so that it would sit back against the wall. On the return visit the the cabinets were but we had made no changes to the cabinets.

At no point had we been told that we would be charged £200 for this return visit. And we at no point had we been given a choice if we wanted to go ahead with the templating during the first visit. When I asked for their T&C's as we hadn't been told about the £200, they said they didn't have any, so be warned.

Then after installation I noticed a flaw in the worktop, quite small really, the size of straw circumference. It was white, looked rough but was actually smooth to touch. But still obvious and not something you expect.

The first person who came to have a look at it explained that he would have to dig it out and put some colour paste in it before covering it with a glue. After various attempts by various people it looked slightly better but it was still visible. And because they have been scratching away the glue with what looked like a razor blade the shiny surface had now gone and left a dull mark around the size of a £1 coin around the actual flaw. All in all it hadn't been made better, in fact it has now been made worse!!

Therefore I asked for a replacement worktop for that section, thinking that would be no problem since it wasn't our fault but no. Their response was; "It is our belief that the damage has occurred after installation" "This type of damage is typical with impact form a sharp/heavy object".

I have asked them how it's possible for the flaw could have been made since installation as the surface is smooth to touch and no sign of a dent by a heavy object?

They want to charge us £1,150 excl VAT to replace the worktop. Unbelievable!

So as stated at the start stay well clear, this company will charge you for anything whether it's their fault or not and make up charges as they go along.
