Persistent unauthorized billing and poor support

⭐☆☆☆☆ Unauthorized Charges & Broken Billing System – Beware
I’m writing this to warn others about the billing practices at Ultimate Guitar. I cancelled my auto‑renewal immediately after signing up because the product isn’t presented in a true tab format and ended up being more confusing than helpful. In short, it was useless for my needs.

Despite cancelling right away, I was still hit with an unauthorized charge of AU$36.45 on 12‑Feb‑2026.

When I log in, their system shows a blatant contradiction:

My account status says “Pro+”,

Yet the subscription page simultaneously shows the service as “Cancelled.”

This is clearly a system glitch — one they’re using to justify taking money from my account.

I’ve already provided bank documentation and card details to their support agent, Anna, but the resolution is being dragged out with no real progress. After checking their own forums, I found multiple users reporting the same unexpected billing issues. That says a lot.

I am demanding a full refund for this unauthorized transaction. Avoid this service unless you want to spend your time chasing your own money back from a broken billing system. In my case, it was pure luck that I even noticed the charge — my wife handles our credit card repayments. It makes you wonder how much money they’re making from people who don’t catch these “errors.”

Unreachable support, new version no longer allows .text downloads.

I subcribed to Ultimate Guitar over a year ago. I turned off auto-renewal back then when it was possible to reach someone from their company. I haven't used it for a month or and my subscription apparently ran out. I renewed a few days ago, and immediatelydiscovered that they updated their download system such that one can now only download uneditable PDF files, whereas before one could also download .text files which is what I prefer to use in the music program on my tablet. THERE IS NOWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE TO ACTUALLY CONTACT SUPPORT! Even the "support" link only takes you to articles. I happened to check their Facebook link and there was both a phone number and a Facebook message link. The phone number results in a message machine, on which I left a message and a call back number, but received no call back.
They did respond to one part of my first FB message where I inquired how to download file in text format, and was told that they made improvements and now it can only be done in PDF format. They failed to respond to the part that said that if I could no longer download in text format, I wanted to cancel the subscription that I signed up for that day. They have not responded to any message since. I almost gave them 2 stars because they have a complete set of music for downloading which works in PDF. They allow editing online, but the editing is insufficient, as it is impossible to control page lay out, accurate font sizing (size jumps are too large), and because one can't eliminate information that is not needed. This results in pages that do not work well in performance when on a tablet. I decided on 1 star, which now feels too high, because how difficult it is to reach them. I can't even turn off automatic renewal this time.
If one decides to download files in PDF and then copy and past to put them into a .text format, it is necessary to realign every chord in the entire song manually which can take a long time for each download. It is not worth the effort and to have to pay a fee for the PDF besides. I recommend avoiding this company. It is a time waster in many ways. I have filed with my credit card company for a refund.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. Signed up for a 14 days free trial.
First of all they make it as hard as possible to access the cancel option.
Canceled the subscription in time but they are trying to charge me the money for a 1 year subscription nonetheless claiming that i have made 2 subscriptions but having no proof for that.

Cancelled subscription but no refund

It went sour for me when I tried to cancel my subscription. I had not used the service for quite some time, then I received an email that my subscription had auto-renewed. When I finally got around to cancelling it, I was told that I was outside of the 14 day cancellation period (by a few days) and no refunds were possible, so I was on the hook for another year for a service I had not used for a while and had no intention to use. I explained that this was unfair but was told "not possible according to T&Cs" etc. It was disappointing that there was no flexibility from the customer service team.

Unexpected charge from ultimate guitar

I signed up for what I thought was a one year subscription for $20. Ultimate guitar then suddenly charged my account $100.
This was very disappointing and unexpected. I then tried to cancel all subscriptions through their support email but at this point it looks like they only going to refund $ 90 of the $120 I paid.

They spammed me offering "90% off"

They spammed me offering "90% off". Turns out that was 90% off an alleged £400 per year subscription! Enough said - I will not even consider using an app that shows that level of transparent dishonesty.

Watch out

Watch out! Clicked link for 7 day free trial and half price £35 annual sub. They deducted £69 by PayPal and set themselves up to take it again next year. When I spotted this I tried to cancel and refund. Paypal decided the £69 was authorised by me - it jolly well wasn't- and closed the case. No refund by them. These crooks after half a dozen emails said "we don't refund Android subs". No refund from them. Better make very good use of an app I don't like the look of. Awful company.

Not user friendly

All information sharing in the cookies settings is by default on, thereby already not complying with European law. And if you want to use the site on a mobile device, they force you to use their app by not even showing the page at all, just a link to the app store. I have to turn on desktop mode to just use the site.
