The premium package was great. It would be nice if it remembered your previous deductions from last year. Instead of asking what form do you want, it should ask you. I also didn't appreciate being hi... See more

I didn't like the either guided or forms approach. I thought the 1099-B process was confusing as the amount withheld needed to be input in another area and now I need to check my previous year, but that isn't available in the UI because of issues last year. I get that I should be a bit more proactive though.

TaxSlayer not ready for 8962 form

I've had several issues with TaxSlayer while providing information for the 8962 FORM. Tried their Support but they didn't resolve it. I had to make things work through the TaxSlayer User Interface to get it Accepted by the IRS, but by doing so I lost money because the Tool doesn't allow us to use the "Alternative Calculation for Year of Marriage (Form 8962, Part V)," accordingly. I followed what their Support told me to do, but I attempted to correctly populate Form 8962 Part V using only my spouse's information, as he was the only one with HealthCare.gov Marketplace coverage. Per IRS instructions and TaxSlayer own documentation, Line 35 (Primary Taxpayer) should be completely empty, and only Line 36 (Spouse) should contain data, since I never had Marketplace coverage. However, TaxSlayer's software does not allow this. When I select "Alternative Calculation for Year of Marriage (Form 8962, Part V)," the system forces me to fill in both the Primary Taxpayer section AND the Spouse section. There is no way to leave Line 35 empty in your software while still using Part V. The only option that correctly leaves my (Primary Taxpayer) fields empty is selecting "None of the Above.". However, selecting "None of the Above" means I cannot elect the alternative calculation at all, which results in a higher repayment of excess APTC. If I could fill out accordinly this would reduce the excess APTC repayment significantly compared to the standard calculation.

Quality has seriously gone down

I used TaxSlayer for a few years. Then for a couple of years I used a CPA. I went back to TaxSlayer this year. It was horrible. It's much less easy to use now. It's impossible to look at draft of your 1040 to see how things are lining up. Like almost every tech company that falls in love with AI, the customers are the ones who suffer. I highly doubt I'll use it again.

Bait and switch

Well I used this service last year for free ... came back this year and it starts off saying it can be free ... then forces promp after promp asking if u want this service or that along the way so they can try to get more and more for literally nothing... cost me 90 dollars for something that was FREE last year ... why is there a cost now ... and that's the lowest cost I could possibly pay to have this garbage done ... if I had accepted all the nonsense promps along the way im sure it would have cost me hundreds more ... I accidentally clicked yes on one of them and it was an additional 40 dollars FOR NOTHING... Why would I pay that? Absolute stupidity and if this is how it is going forward I will be going elsewhere

Thanks so much for lobbying to get the free Direct File cancelled and for forcing Americans to pay you instead. Your software is fine, but your practices and honesty with your customers is criminal and insulting. You all are a drain on the economy of America and are making life harder for anyone simply trying to follow the law.
