My appointment with Dr Becky Mawson was the most helpful one I've ever had. I've experienced symptoms of endometriosis for 16 years, and visiting GP's and specialists for 12 of those years. My appointment with Dr Mawson was the first time that I felt that I wasn't a nuisance, and I was given multiple, viable options personalised to me, rather than the "take it or leave it" attitude I've experienced elsewhere. Dr Mawson had read my notes in advance (it feels like this never happens elsewhere!) and explained everything in an incredibly knowledgeable, but accessible way. I'm really grateful to her and The Lowdown.

I booked a Private Consultation with Dr Fran and it was so wonderfully refreshing to be listened to. Dr Fran was so friendly and helpful, she really renewed my confidence in discussing anything to do with my reproductive system. I am sure many of us have experienced being fobbed off when speaking with Doctors about anything to do with the above, which is very disheartening; so to be listened to (and not gaslit) was amazing.

I can wholeheartedly say that I recommend The Lowdown and have already done so to my friends and family.

I've just discovered The Lowdown website - the place to go for advice on the minefield that is finding a contraception that works for your unique and changing body. I also booked a consultation with one of their experts. The NHS doctor I spoke to (for a full 20 minutes) cleared up all of my queries, gave me loads of helpful info and has set me up with an empowering plan of action. I've never felt more heard and been so informed - best appointment ever! What a fantastic resource for girls and women.

Dr Fran made me feel super comfortable, didn't rush me, asked lots of questions and was clear and open. The follow up summary of advice was also very helpful. It was clear that Dr Fran is a specialist in women's health - her insights were invaluable and reassuring. This is a fantastic service which I really appreciated being able to access.

I had a consultation with Dr.Melanie Davis-Hall and it was the best contraceptive counselling I’ve ever received. It was open, informative and individualised. She happily answered all of my questions and concerns, providing me with both comfort and information. This is a wonderful organisation and I’ve recommended it to everyone I know.

Had two appointments so far and had a great experience both times. Dr Fran really listened, didn’t rush me and asked loads of questions. She explained everything well and clearly and let me ask as many questions as I needed. Highly recommend

I would 100% recommend Dr Becky, she was super lovely and incredibly informative on all the questions I had for her regarding endometriosis, the copper coil and local anaesthesia. She provided me with really useful guidance both in my consultation and with my follow up action plan. This service has been so so so useful in allowing me to make informed decisions!

I was recommended the low down by a friend after I’d seen my GP and even a private gyno about some contraception and hormonal issues I’d been having (mentally and physically) and all I can say is I’m SO GLAD I went ahead booked an appointment because Dr Fran was incredible. She made me feel so heard and understood and I instantly felt better just being listened to in that way - and that’s just the beginning! She is clearly so knowledgable and talked me through so many things that I had no idea about before. My consultation with Dr Fran was so helpful in making an informed choice about my contraception. I felt really listened to and involved in the decision and am confident that the plan we have put together will help reduce the issues I have been experiencing around my period (heavy and painful periods due to fibroids). I had a consultation with Dr Fran and she was LOVELY, but I have never felt so listened to at a consultation, especially regarding woman’s health. For someone who’s had endometriosis for 12 years and seen many many many doctors (most of whom were male), I got used to being fobbed off. But 20 mins with Dr Fran and I had some recommendations that I can try, based on her actually listening to my issues and from someone who knows what they’re talking about. This is such an important topic that the majority of GPs don’t pay attention to/have the knowledge of, so it’s such a good thing that this place exists. Honestly, bloody brilliant, thank you!

I had my appointment with Dr Becky a couple of days ago and I can't recommend enough! It was so helpful to speak to someone who is obviously very knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my concerns. I was immediately put at ease and felt completely confident to ask any questions. I came away with an action plan that I am very happy with and lots of interesting articles to read for further information on the topics discussed during the consultation. I'd definitely recommend booking a consultation for anyone who is unsure or has questions surrounding their contraception.

I'm so pleased I found this service. I had a Contraception Consultation with Dr Fran and I learnt more in the 20 minute session than I have in the almost 15 years I have been on contraception. I think my experience is like that of so many women - I started taking the pill as a teen, following the briefest convo with my GP. At no point has any GP spoken to me about other options, or asked about side effects etc. Just the yearly weight and blood pressure check! Not blaming GPs, I know they're overworked. But it felt like a luxury to have a whole 20mins/half an hour to talk to someone knowledgeable about my concerns.
Dr Fran really listened to me and wanted to understand my experiences and concerns. I felt like I could ask "stupid" questions without judgement. She gave really clear advice and followed this up with an email the next day.
My main question was to understand if changing my contraception could help with my debilitating PMS. I had assumed for years that this was something I just had to put up with. By the end of the appointment, I had hope that making some changes could improve things for me, and I felt well informed about the different options I have. I have ordered a different pill and I am looking forward to seeing if this helps.
I would really recommend this service. The level of education I had around these matters growing up was shockingly insufficient. I am heartened that younger women than me have services like the Lowdown to help them. Sounds a bit dramatic, but these "women's issues" have been swept under the carpet for forever, causing much unneeded suffering. Education and open conversation is key.

Absolutely brilliant experience. I felt fobbed off by my gp, who just didn’t have the same level of knowledge as these guys do. The video appointment is super convenient. My plan is totally tailored to me and my situation and I also have a back up plan if that doesn’t suit. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the lowdown to anyone.

I'm so glad i booked an appointment with the Dr Mel, she was fantastic and put me straight at ease. I was able to have an in depth chat with her, where she asked me lots of questions and for the first time ever, i felt like i was actually being heard. Dr Mel also took the time to explain to me not just what to ask for to help me, but why it would help me. I found this really empowering. We get such a short time with our local NHS GPs, that this level of care and investigation is just not possible. I now feel prepared and ready to go to my GP and use the 10 minute appointment to clearly articulate what i need, without fear of wasting anyone's time and to conquer that innate conditioning of "bad periods? just get on with it" - you don't just have to get on with it! Time to take back some power, you won't regret booking an appt with the lowdown team. Thanks so much Dr Mel!

Can honestly not recommend the consultation service enough! I had a chat with Dr Melanie Davis-Hall as I have been having a really difficult time managing my contraception, she was so kind and cheerful and made me feel completely reassured. Really took the time to go through everything with me and has provided excellent additional resources and notes for me to follow up with. So so grateful for the service the Lowdown provides, navigating women's health can be such a miserable experience and I am so excited to see them expand!

I had a brilliant consultation with Dr Fran. She really took the time to understand the issue and impact on my life that you rarely get with contraceptive appointments.

We came up with a plan and what I could do in future if things don't work out. Definitely worth the £37.

Needed advice on how to manage my period around my wedding and the Dr I spoke to was fantastic. So kind, listened to everything I said and really helped me to feel that I knew my options. Thank you for this essential service! ❤️
