Staff are friendly and helpful. Huge variety of sweets and chocolates. I think over 300 varieties. Wonderful old fashioned sweet shop vibes. However the last couple of times we’ve bought sweets they are definitely not up to standard. From our large selection two different sweets smelt and tasted of the plastic container and smelt of disinfectant wipes. Not what you want to taste or smell. Nearly every sweet we chose were tasting old. What I mean by old they are sticky instead of sweet. The sugar coatings are tacky and soft, then you taste a hard sweet underneath the softer sweet. It should all be hard. It’s a real shame as I’ve been a very loyal customer over many years both in Exeter and more regularly in Sidmouth. Unfortunately I will not be returning. There is always competition in everything we do and this time many other traditional sweet shops win over this one. Think before you buy or even ask to try and check the authenticity AND more importantly the freshness.

Gutted not what I ordered arrived
I ordered online just before Christmas a jar of original liquorice comforts when the jar arrived the comforts were completely different from what the website advertised . I have never come across comforts which have been blue white green and pink, they are always green red pink yellow orange and white I tried to get in touch but got the answer phone. I emailed on 2/1/24 and had a reply the same day I replied again on the same day and have been ignored since. Where is your customer service??
Would not order again I was told in the email that some items may vary but I have been sent substitutes which are nothing like the originals as advertised !

Fantastic place. Been visiting Pateley Bridge for many years and it’s always a faveourite place to go, especially for lovely fudge 🥰

RUDE,RUDE. I came into the shop today and bought some fudge. I picked up the jar from the shop and stood on the queue . The sales assistant practically snatched it out of my hands telling me if I wanted sweets to tell them and they would get the jar.I was upset to say the least I felt she was really snotty and I will not return . We often go to Sidmouth as we love it and do get sweeties in there but I will not anymore

I often visit this wonderful shop in Sidmouth, like going back in time with such helpful staff.
Recently I needed to use their online service to order some fudge etc. wow what a service ordered on a Thursday and received next day just brilliant. Can’t wait to visit it again, also have purchase their beautiful chocolates as birthday gifts. This is a service and shop which you seldom come across, but my goodness it’s definitely worth a visit.

I visited The Old Sweet Shop in the Summer and bought some lovely diabetic friendly chocolate for myself and my mum. I wanted to get some more so sent an email to the shop. I received an extremely prompt reply from Michelle, setting out the information I needed to provide. Once done, a day or so later I was called by Michelle to provide payment details and the chocolates were sent to me. I received exactly what I had requested and the whole process and service was great. I will definitely be ordering some more chocolates in the very near future.

I always purchased my blackberry and raspberry boiled sweets from The Old Sweet Shop when in Sidmouth. As I haven't travel from my village during the past year I contacted Michelle to see if I could have some posted to me. This was no problem for her and I ordered a larger amount on 3 occasions during the last 12 months. I'd contact her, she'd take my order and I paid for the sweets and postage. I always received them a couple of days later. Her service was excellent on all 3 occasions. I do look forward to going into Sidmouth and visiting the shop again hopefully later this year but up until then I know I can just give her a ring if I need more. I have been visiting this lovely sweet shop for some time to purchase sweets for my father. Nothing is ever too much trouble and it is so lovely to still be able to enjoy wonderful customer service. Recently due to the pandemic I was unable to get to Sidmouth for my normal supply. I emailed the shop as soon as they reopened to see if they were able to post my order to my father for me. I received an instant response and again nothing was too much trouble and my order was sent by mail order. The Old Sweet shop is really a hidden gem and fabulous to deal with both in person and by mail order. Thank you so much for always going that extra mile it is so greatly appreciated.

Who ever said retail was dying,is totally wrong
For great personal attentive and prompt service, as well as stocking a vast range of wonderful confectionery “ The Old Sweet Shop” in Sidmouth cannot be beaten!
Their Mail Order service is of a similar consistent standard and is highly recommended for those customers who are unable to visit,browse and then shop personally
It is most advisable to take a larger carrier bag than usual, for obvious reasons!!!!

Wonderful sweet shop with the WOW factor. You will be spoilt for choice as there is every kind of sweet you can think of. The owner takes great pride in her shop and delivers the very best service.

Great service and a lovely array of traditional sweets! The shop offers some great unusual finds that you will just not find in other sweets shops. You can tell a lot of hard work goes in to this business and it deserves all the success. A must visit when in the local area of Sidmouth! Something for everyone!

Friendly and enthusiastic service, a beautifully displayed selection of sweets and chocolates. The hand-made 'bouquets' are simply stunning!

A really warm and friendly service! I found some really unique presents to gift to my nieces. The Bon bons were the best I have tasted. Will be back next summer
