Very poor quality, manufacturing issues, and ignored by customer services.

I really wanted these sponges to be a positive step in reducing our plastic footprint, however in my first box, 3 of the sponges aren't even manufactured properly, the sponge isn't even attached to the loofah. I appreciate that natural materials are difficult to work with, but at £3.50 for each sponge Seep really should have a quality control process in place to check the quality of what they are sending out. Any sponges that aren't sewn properly shouldn't make it into the box.

I've also found that the sponge material itself starts to disintegrate within a week, so there is no way that 12 are going to last a year, which I feel is a very misleading marketing statement.

When I discovered the first sponge had come apart, I emailed Seep and they sent me a single replacement quickly, but, since checking the whole box and finding more issues, I have contacted Seep via email, their contact form and Facebook Messenger, and they are completely ignoring me now. So I absolutely won't be buying anything from them again, and will try one of the other brands like Vove which sell the same product (and cheaper too) who hopefully will have a more active customer service team should there be any issues.

Unimpressed

I’ve tried the sponge scourers, copper scourers, rubber gloves and bamboo cloths. Honestly, the only item that lives up to my expectations is the bamboo cloths, which are good and last a long time. I’ll quite probably buy them again.
As others have said, the loofah side of the sponge scourers is too inflexible. I disagree with Seep’s view that it becomes more malleable over time. The copper scourers aren’t great and start to fall apart quite quickly. The rubber gloves are horrible-they become “sticky” after only a few wearings and they are thin. The worst thing for me is that the cuffs roll down and get in the way.

Hello, we are glad that you like our bamboo cloths.

The sponges should become more malleable with use, but to speed this process up, just pop them in the washing machine a couple of times.

Our gloves are one of the first natural rubber household gloves to market in the UK that have passed biodegradability testing (in accordance with ASTM D5511), and we are super proud of this.
As these gloves are designed to completely biodegrade under composting conditions, it is very important to maintain the gloves properly. Therefore, please try to air-dry and keep out of direct sunlight, as the humidity and heat will speed up the breakdown process.
Other gloves can afford to have thicker beads at the top, whereas ours conform to compostability and biodegradability testing, meaning that to comply, we cannot have this very thick elastic band. We do have a slight beaded edge for this reason. As a result, we recommend slightly folding in the gloves to stop them from dropping down.

We would be happy to take an in-depth look at what has happened if you would like to get in touch with us at hello@theseepcompany.com

Really want this product to do well

Really want this product to do well, and for me it cleans well on the sponge side but the scouter is less effective. I could live with that but the two parts of the sponge separated after only 5 uses. Will continue to use each part, but not as sturdy as some reviewers are reporting.
Following a very prompt and helpful response from the company, I have uprated my review and will see if subsequent sponges do better.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to review us. We are delighted that you liked the idea behind our sponge scourers to try them. The sponge scourers are 100% plastic-free and made from natural materials that are harder to work with than plastic. We do put our sponges through quality control, but the odd one will slip through. Please do get in touch with us at hello@theseepcompany.com so that we can take a look at what has happened.

Eco sponge scourers

I so wanted to like the products, given the green credentials, but like others I find the eco sponge scourers too inflexible for cleaning delicate, curved or small items. There's too much inflexible loofah and not enough soft sponge. Following the company's advice to wet them and use dishwashing liquid hasn't improved the flexibility.

Thank you for trying the sponge scourers and liking the idea behind them. They are dehydrated to transport; the more they are used, the more malleable they should become. To speed this process up, pop them in the washing machine once or twice, and this should help

Surprisingly tactile, effective scourers that don't pollute with plastic

With all the plastic waste currently polluting our rivers and our food chain, I had been looking for some environmentally responsible cleaning products for some time now.
So I was pleasantly surprised to see Deborah Meaden advertising just such wares with seep.
I looked up seep on the web, but was unable to place an order as the site wouldn't let me use trusteer protection.
Fortunately some seep products were available at the Cheltenham Tesco.
My wife was initially horrified at the price, but we both have since become fans of the scourer and the dishcloths.
I hope that such products will start a cleaning materials revolution, but I am a little worried that it may only be an upper-middle-class one - with only Ms Meaden and Ms Woodall as the influencers.

Impressed with the eco-sponges

I’m reviewing the eco-sponges. My first impression was that they weren’t pliable enough to get into nooks and crannies of glasses, and the first sponge started to split after a couple of uses. However, the sponge has softened with use and has held up extremely well for six weeks. There is still a split, but it didn’t get worse over time. We don’t have a dishwasher and hand wash everything, so this is great in terms of durability. There isn’t much scouring power, and I do use the sponge alongside brushes. Overall, I’m really happy with the product and will continue to purchase. The missing star is down to the price being a bit high.

Thank you for taking the time to review us, and we are happy that you are pleased with the sponge scourers.

The more you use them, the more malleable they will become, as they have to be dried out for transporting.

The loofah fibres are naturally coarse and have good scrubbing power, yet are gentle enough for non-scratch pans. If you require more heavy-duty cleaning, we suggest our copper scourers or washing-up brush alongside to help.

Misleading green credentials

Tried on 2 occasions to leave a one star review on their company websiteregarding the loofah scourers but wouldn't upload even after receipt of acknowledgement. Emailed company and was told it takes a moment for to upload, 48hrs later no uploaded review or response from further emails. They obviously don't let their website upload too many one star reviews challenging the green credentials they brand the product with. Any contribution to reducing my plastic use and disposing it in landfill is eroded by the shipping from China had I known this was where it was made and sourced with no real transparency I would never of purchased in first place.
16/10/25
In reply to your response you still haven't explained why my reviews have not been uploaded on the product I purchased, box 12 scourers, despite your email claiming they have.
On your website you source materials as near as possible to uk but manufacture them in China in BSCI Acredited fmanufacturers. I suggest customers enter "BSCI reviews" in their search engine and make their own decision about this certification.

Hello Dave, we are sorry that you feel this way. We are transparent on our website where we source from. We try to source as close to home as possible but there are several reasons we have to source from China, including not being able to find suppliers here that are able to produce the products we need in the right quality, quantity, and specifications. You can read more about this on our website

Don't hesitate. Switch to Seep.

I decided to try Seep because of the micro plastics I traditional kitchen sponges. I had also seen them on Dragon's Den. I have to say what a difference. These sponges really last. I've had the same one on the go for 6 weeks. I pop it in the dishwasher weekly and it cleans and refreshes it. Also I know it will biodegrade without damaging the environment

I also purchased a bamboo brush for the dishes. It's brilliant. Again, I know it will biodegrade when I've finished with it.

Seep are an amazing company. I had a couple of issues with my order and they were quick to contact me back and resolve these.

I've since recommended to a friend who has purchased, and I've given a sponge each to my grown up daughters to encourage the to switch.

Thanks Seep for creating an innovative, practical, green product that works really well.

Not suitable for non-stick pans

I really love the concept of Seep and the sponge scourers definitely do the trick to get my dishes clean. I've not experienced the issues others have had with the scourer part being too stiff, so that's not been a problem. My big issue however, is that both my frying pans have lost their non-stick ability since using the product. I've had the pans a long time with no trouble and now both have developed the same issue since using the pads, so it has to be the scourers causing the problem. It's been an expensive lesson for me to learn and unfortunately I won't be using the pads again when my new pans arrive.

We are delighted that you have tried our sponge scourers, but sorry that you feel that they haven't been a success for you. Because the sponge and scourer material are made of natural fibres, they should be suitable for use on non-stick surfaces and delicate materials like porcelain, induction hobs, and stainless steel. If you are in any doubt, we advise testing on a very small area before use.

Neat idea but not practical

I thought this was a neat idea, but it is quite expensive compared to other sponges and after a month of use has worn down considerably. It’s now too soft to properly scrub and clean most dishes. I won’t be buying another one.

We are delighted that you have tried us. The sponge we say lasts around 4-8 weeks. The loofah is a natural product and should be scrubby enough, but if it needs extra help, we use our copper scourers or bamboo brush alongside. When it comes to the end of life, ( which sounds like yours is ), just cut it up and pop it in the compost bin/heap.
