⚠️ My experience with Trade Centre
⚠️ My experience with Trade Centre – please read before buying a car
I bought a car from Trade Centre for around £12,000, believing I was buying a safe, reliable vehicle.
At the time of purchase, I was told the car had a clean MOT with no advisories and had passed their 99-point check. I was also told the tyres were brand new. I even paid extra for a warranty.
Less than a year later, and after driving less than 4,000 miles, I have spent around £2,000 on repairs and experienced multiple serious problems.
These have included:
🔴 A frayed handbrake, which eventually snapped and caused the car to roll down a hill into another person’s vehicle.
🔴 A seized brake caliper and broken brake pad, which caused a serious problem with the wheel/tyre and left me extremely concerned about the risk of the tyre overheating.
🔴 A broken coil spring.
🔴 Further brake problems, including additional brake pad and dust boot work.
🔴 Problems with the tyre pressure sensors.
🔴 I have now discovered that Trade Centre had put foam into all four tyres as part of what they called a “protection pack”. I was not aware of this when I bought the car. I had been told the tyres were brand new. Multiple garage don’t understand why they are doing this .
When I took the car for its MOT and the tyre was inspected, I was told that the foam meant the tyre could not be repaired in the normal way and that at least one tyre needed replacing. I was also told the foam could affect the tyre pressure sensors.
I am particularly concerned because I had been driving the car on motorways without knowing this had been put inside the tyres.
I have also had problems with Trade Centre’s handling of repairs. On one occasion I took the car back for a seat belt repair and waited over 4 hours, only to find they hadn’t obtained the correct part. On another visit, after waiting around 3 hours, I was told they had ordered the wrong part and had already stripped the car.
I was supposed to receive a courtesy car. Eventually one was provided, but after supposedly being safety checked for around 2 hours, I test drove it and immediately noticed a problem with the suspension. I returned it and was then told there actually was an issue with the suspension. I did not feel safe driving it and had to get the bus home.
I have raised my concerns with Trade Centre and the warranty company. The £1,600 repair was refused under the warranty on the basis of “wear and tear”, despite me having driven less than 2,000 miles at that stage and not being made aware of these issues when purchasing the vehicle.
Trade Centre have now offered me £150.
I paid approximately £12,000 for the car and around £2,000 in repairs, all within less than a year and with less than 4,000 miles of driving.
I have documentation, MOT certificates, repair invoices and correspondence to support what I am saying.
I’m sharing this because I believe people should be aware of what has happened to me and make their own informed decision when buying a vehicle.
