Nearly all features are great
Many strong reasons to use Toast: incredible support, and the software is easy to use once you learn it. My only complaint is their Experiences software for special events. It's not set up to book an event where customers do not have assigned tables (like a cocktail party).

I have over 20 years experience as an owner of multiple restaurants and have used Toast for the last 3 years. I have used Micros, Aloha, Future,Shift 4, Dinerware (RUN AWAY FAST AS YOU CAN) and Toast. Toast has been the best system by far. We have causal dining set ups and use multiple KDS in BOH, Terminals and Hand-held units, online ordering, hostess seating, gift cards. This is the first cloud based system that I have used and love it. Toast Payroll is great! Transitioning to the Toast system was well planned and executed perfectly. I do think Toast should offer free replacement equipment after the warranty, as part of the monthly service/processing fees. It's all about getting the credit card processing fees and competitors are getting aggressive with attractive offers. Speaking from a independent owner perspective, Toast is a great partner and makes things much easier.
Products good, Service bad
Products are good, ever evolving which is great. Way more operations friendly then the other and where they were a few years ago. There are a few holes still, but can usually find everything you need and download and cross reference in excel. Customer service and follow through is bottom of barrel horrible. Their customer service reps have ZERO clue about their own products, have numerous times caused issues for my company. It’s to a point where when there is a problem I can’t fix, then we are just out of luck. I had to tell my team to not call Toast because they just do NOT help.

Big company so they don’t care. Firstly I spent some time and took a qoute out. The offer was ok but I decided it was not a good fit for my business. However I was interested again two years later l. I have messaged and emailed several times for Toast to contact me and it looks like they are ignoring me or the particular sales person has taken it personally.
Customers change the mind!! One day they decide to buy a ford and then change their mind and upgrade to a BMW. GUYS TRAIN YOUR SALES PEOPLE THAT CUSTOMERS DO SHOP AROUND but one day they may come to you and say yes we want to go ahead!

Reports allow only limited customization. There is no relational database that I can download and run the queries I want.
Toast is fine for simple restaurant operation, and they have partners that supply interface with some backend accounting software.
Tech support is good and easy to connect but too often the answer is 'we can't do that'. There is no one to talk to who can make improvements.

As a 48 year hospitality veteran, I can honestly say I've never experienced a better POS system, not to mention the multitude of integrations that Toast provides for its users.

I'd rate them zero if I could! Don't do it! There are so many other POS systems out there to use! Unethical with their hidden fees!

We could not be more pleased with moving over to Toast. Our previous POS system was good for awhile and then just started failing. Toast came in and saved the day making a very seamless transition and business has been so much smoother since. Thank you all!
