Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 30 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported significant quality issues with the products, including paint peeling, rust, and grills failing to maintain consistent temperatures. Reviewers frequently found that the products did not work as expected, with some needing constant repairs or replacements for parts like hot rods and temperature sensors. The warranty process was also a major point of dissatisfaction, as many felt the company did not honor its warranty or made it difficult to get issues resolved. Customer service received mixed feedback; some found it to be a nightmare, citing long hold times, unhelpful representatives, and a lack of product knowledge. Conversely, a few other people also felt that customer support was helpful, efficient, and even went out of their way to resolve problems.

I purchased a Traeger Ironwood 650 and within 9 months it was rusting very bad. I contacted Traeger and even though it was under warranty they wouldn't do a thing for me.

Don't ever buy a Traeger. If you're in the market for a smoker purchase a Recteq Smoker.

Traeger Pellet Smoker Warranty is Poor Quality

I had the Traeger Pellet Smoker for less than a year. It started showing an error at 170 -190 degrees and would shut down. It wouldn't reach full temp. I cleaned and did all the required maintenance to the letter and still no help. I called customer service and they kept me on the phone forever having me take the grill apart, disconnect wires, get on video calls for them to verify what I was doing, they determined that they couldn't determine the problem so the man told me that he was sending the entire assembly on the side of the grill (Hopper, controller, auger motor, etc) that way it would cure the issue. Two weeks later, I get a piece of wire in the mail. I called back 6 times on hold for an hour and a half... Finally got through and the new guy tells me there was no such order put in to replace all the assemble and that the part I received was the igniter. I was to replace the igniter even though the guy on the phone two week prior determined that the pellets was igniting and burning fine. The dude on the phone now wants me to go back through the entire diagnostics with him and waste two more hours waiting on them to stand behind their warranty while I am the one missing work and losing time with a product I purchased to cook on. Anyway, the guy said he couldn't send me anything else without me going through the diagnostics debacle again and I told him that if he wanted that done to send someone qualified to fix the warranted product... Obviously that's not in their wheelhouse. Traeger is a serious waste of time and money. They work good when they work, but obviously, when they don't work, they want to be as cheap as possible, no matter how long it takes, and no matter how long you go without a working grill... I don't advise anyone to buy these products because if you do have problems, their warranty is the bottom of the barrel.

Absolute garbage

Absolute garbage.

Bought a new silverton XL, thinking the creature comforts, pellet swap, and ease of cleaning made it worth it to replace my rt-700 that I’ve had for years now.

First cook should have been my warning when my food was done literally half the time I was expecting at 225. Brushed it off as “just better insulated” but was like that with all my cooks. Cooking fast and missing the smoke.

Finally Got 3 ambient temp probes, and found the grill was running 40-50 degrees hotter than its set temp consistently. And the higher the set, the higher the delta. At 300, I clocked it at close to 380

Called customer service which was like chatting with someone who was just using chatGPT, who tried to
Convince me that within 20 degrees was normal, and wanted to argue with me that 3rd party probes are not recommended and try to say the grill wasn’t clean, etc etc (and everything else that would be more common to a low temp) ignoring that my food was burning at 225… and Regardless that out of the 3 probes i had running, the only one that was reading off was the Traeger while the other 3 were within 1 degree. After an hour and a half, finally agreed to send me a coupler, which I believe it to be the board, not the coupler…

Never again. Thank god I got it at Costco, it’s going back tomorrow, and the bull was set back up.

I’ve had repeated issues with my…

I’ve had repeated issues with my Traeger and needed support multiple times. Most recently, a representative promised to send parts and follow up with a call—but she never did. She later claimed she called and even sent an unprofessional email. Apparently, Traeger employs liars.

Due to bad weather, I couldn’t work on the grill for months. The parts sat on the counter waiting for her call, which caused tension at home. I eventually moved them to the top of a storage bin, but during holiday cleanup, they were misplaced.

Because this liar never followed up, I had to buy new parts and hire someone to finish the repair. Her dishonesty caused unnecessary delays, stress, and added costs.

Do not buy a Traeger. You can get a knockoff for a third of the price. I’ll be looking for something better next time.

Do not buy

Do not buy. Got a grill May last year, it arrived without a hatch and we had to order one from Treagar. It worked fine for 4 months but then the weld on the auger broke. Customer support have been dreadful, there are stripped screws and all they do is send you new tools. After hours on the phone, I was told they'd send a new machine, when the day arrived, they told me they would send a hopper unit instead.

Poorly made. Poor customer service. Do not buy.

Belongs in the city dump!

I’ve owned the Timberline XL for two years, and I’ve spent just as much time on the phone with Traeger as I have cooking. Unfortunately, this has been the most frustrating purchase of my life. Last weekend, I spent two hours on the phone with their support team, and the same issue has come up again this week. They seem unable to resolve it. The problem lies with their software, which operates on a 2.4 GHz frequency, while everything else I use is on 5 GHz. The grill frequently goes offline during cooking, and it’s nearly impossible to reconnect it. Overall, I’m very disappointed with this product. I can’t wait to get rid of this grill. I will never buy another one!!!

Jeremy's incredible knowledge and experience

Great and extremely knowledge experience with Jeremy at Home Depot on 9570 s highland dr. I have looked at many different types of griddles the 30 days. After talking and going over the features of the Traeger with Jeremy, he absolutely sold me on the Traeger Flatrock. Just two BBQ guys talking great ways to cook. Jeremy was so down to earth and honest!. What a great experience!

DON'T EVER BUY A TRADER GRILL!!!!

DON'T EVER BUY A TRADER GRILL!!!!

If there was a negative star I would leave it here. I purchased an extremely expensive Traeger grill and it broke after 9 uses and despite spending 4 hours on chat and on the phone, they refused to do anything more than try and have you take apart the grill yourself, and troubleshoot the electrical issue. Even though we did this twice they not only refused to help in any way but they technicians they contract also refuse to help which makes me wonderf if they don't pay them for their actual services.

Traeger is garbage

The very first traeger smoker that I owned worked like a charm. The 2nd wouldn't smoke below 225. I ended up just dealing with it until it finally errored out. Like an idiot I bought a 3rd traeger smoker and this one won't keep the smoking temperature you have it set at above obove smoke, like 250. It will drop temp down to 123 then spike into over 500 degrees. I bought the grill in march and didn't use until august. My mistake. I'm beyond the return to get my money back so I will sell it on FB marketplace and buy from a different company. I will trash this company every chance I get after buying 2 lemons in a row. Never again. Garbage.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. I just wanted something nice for my husband and I feel like we got cheated. We bought our 760 traeger pellet grill brand new from home depot and it started faulting on the first cook and every time I call they just try to waste your time so you don’t get answers and they are not helpful at all. It’s very disheartening please don’t buy from this company.

I bought a Silverton 620 from Costco…

I bought a Silverton 620 from Costco three weeks ago. The first pork, but I tried to cook got ruined because during the night the grill automatically turned off due to a low temperature reading. Contacting Traeger support we found that the thermal couple was faulty. They overnighted a new one to me which I had to install myself. Not overly hard just time-consuming and there was a step missing. Frustrating it on a new pellet grill. I had to do a repair. So OK after a few hours I got it done. I tried another pork butt it after 17 hours never got above 150°. I talked to three different technical advisors and no one could answer that question. I was ready to send it back to Costco. But next time I was in Costco there was two representatives from Traeger and when I mentioned this problem, I immediately got possible reason for not cooking fully. It was set. It was still partially semi frozen that I hadn’t realized until talking to these two reps. so at Costco I got some ribs cooked them up and they cooked up beautifully.
Every representative I talk to at Traeger was polite, considerate, and did their level best to find a solution to the pork butt not cooking. I didn’t know the time in talking to all of them. The meat was still partially frozen on one end. And the two reps who I met at Costco, almost immediately identified the potential problem.
I talked to a manager at Traeger and a supervisor who ended up calling me back. I can’t say enough good things of the support that I encountered. Apart from the thermal couple needing to be replaced, which they overnighted by the way, I would 100% recommend Traeger. And because I bought it at Costco, I knew that Costco would stand behind their product 100%.
This is just my experience and it’s not a rebuttal or a comment on anybody else’s experience I would buy Traeger grills, noting that I’m buying from Costco, in a heartbeat. Just my experience in my perspective!

Do not buy from this company

If I can help one person not buy from this company it would make me happy. They have the most obnoxious and rude customer service I have ever dealt with. Once they have your money they do not care to help you no matter what the situation, even family emergencies and help with shipping. They will make up rules just to not help. The laziness of the employees caused the situation I was in and rather then the company take responsibility they tried to make it my fault. So get your bank involved because I bet they did wrong by many others.

I just bought a Timberline XL

I just bought a Timberline XL. The delivery process (I bought it online from Traeger) was a complete joke. Once it left the warehouse Traeger had no idea where it went or when it would be delivered. I ended up tracking down the shipping company and went and picked it up myself. Had to make about a dozen phone calls to finally find who was actually shipping it.
Brand new and using a brand new bag of Traeger pellets, and it won’t hold a steady temperature. Set it at 250 and it fluctuates 20-30 degrees higher and 50 degrees lower. Takes almost double the time that my Green Mountain takes to smoke a brisket. If you open the lid, you’ll immediately loose 30-50 degrees.
I love the settings and digital screen. Makes it really easy. If you don’t use super smoke mode, it’s pretty quiet. Lots of options to choose from, and a wide variety of recipes.
Im finding that it’s really difficult to go from other smokers to a Traeger. It simply doesn’t cook as simple as the others.
I would say at this point that it is well built. Took me a couple of hours with my son’s help to put it together. It came with wireless thermostats but they haven’t worked. I set them up on Bluetooth but they weren’t even close to measuring the right temp. I finally pulled them out and just used a digital thermometer.

Fund their working capital

Bought a US grill in the UK. Tried to buy additional kit from a gold dealer - what a shambles. How is Traeger deciding it’s gold distributors because the guys I order from lie about stock levels, take your money and then don’t deliver or answer call backs. Check out bbqstoreuk on Trustpilot - shocking.

Basically the gig is to tell you they have stock, get you to pay up front, and then radio silence. As an accountant this is known as teeming and lading - taking money from new customers to refund dissatisfied previous customers - basically a Ponzi scheme.

And Traeger award this shower a gold dealership

Piece of junk

I went to use my traeger grill for the The second time and it does not work there’s no heat no nothing. They want me to take it apart after I called customer service they want me to take apart the grill in order to figure out what’s wrong with it. I told them I want my money back or a replacement they still insist on me taking the whole grill apart in order to find out what’s wrong with it what a joke. I will never ever buy another Traeger grill or I will make sure I tell everybody not to buy a Traeger grill if this is the way they do business what a joke this company is

Traeger agreed to register and warranty…

Traeger agreed to register and warranty my new purchase. They said I was the second owner. I bought it from a Costco employee.

They did warranty it then called back the second day and said no. It was a new employee training issue and I couldn’t receive a warranty on a new unit. I will never ever buy a Traeger again their policies are more important than customers.
