A great way to book.
I usually use Trainline to book my railway tickets. I like having the app on my phone too so that I can check the progress of the train. Recently, I was due to travel to London and the weather was exceptionally hot. Trainline advised against travel to the capital and refunded the vast majority of the cost very quickly. I always get paper tickets which I had to send through the post for the refund. A very easy process.

After having a 40 min delay in York yesterday (1245 to Hull)I was informed by app I was due a £5.05 refund, "apply here" ...what a faff!
Trainline use an external platform that has no data of your train tickets and payments, after uploading the QR code it still asks for a ticket number that you don't get when using online. I had to screenshot QR code off app then upload to refund system...I managed to bypass the request ( not sure how) then it asked for my bank details despite trainline knowing all of this...then when I got to the stage of entering I was informed I was due £1.01.
I was so frustrated and lack of confidence in the system I gave in.
So my conclusion is it's purposefully made non user friendly designed for you NOT to claim your refund.
It's such a shame as the actual train app is amazing and so disappointed to have them use an external provider who don't match trainline standards.

It’s so easy to book journeys and see prices at a glance. With my senior rail pass I visit my daughter in London from Scotland - often in first class as I can search for offers. I love a train journey and now with QR codes for buffet service to your seat, travelling solo is so much easier. Staff are always pleasant.

I always find Trainline very easy and quick to use
£100+ just to stand for hours on the train.
Far too many people on the trains these days, can’t remember the last time I sat down on a train from start to finish. Yes it gets you from A to B but at the prices required why am I paying over £100 to stand outside the toilets or the doors for a few hours jam packed like an animal in cattle class because I physically can not get to my reserved seat, even if I sat down I’d have someone stood right on-top of me as the entire isle is filled, so no amenities ever. Make the trains bigger thank god I’m not disabled.

Train on time, air conditioned, very pleasant ticket collector, good price, would definitely use again and recommend to friends.
Only two downsides - loo near us wasn’t operational and no coffee!!
