Selling holidays at false prices

Basically this company is selling holidays that don't exist ! I paid for 3 days in Lisbon. I was contacted by phone to be advised it would be an extra £139 ! The rep in question was very helpful and came back to advise they could offer alternatives like Faro and Rome. These holidays did not exist at that price either. In the end I am going to Marrakech in late June. They charged an extra £20 by then I could not be bothered to argue.

Dont Book With Wowcher or The Travel Makers

I booked a holiday 2 night holiday through Wowcher for my husbands 50th Birthday. We redeemed 2 vouchers. Klaus called me from the The Travel Makers on Friday 20th March. What he offered us meant we would get to the destination, go to bed, have 1 day there and then fly back early on the 3rd day. So 1 day for 2 nights. We changed our mind and Klaus asked if he could try and find us an alternative. I said yes. He came back with different dates, different hotel , different flights and with an additional £70 to pay. I said no as we didnt have the additional money. He asked for more time to find another alternative. I said yes. Kalus came back with a trip to Latvia. We booked for Spain. I declined and asked for a refund. That was on Friday 20th March.
I have watsapped Wowcher & Klaus at the Travel Makers everyday and throughout the day, only to be fobbed off by both. Today, I have tried to call them on 02038725000, I got through and a very blunt man said " I will get someone to call you back from the Wowcher Team" stupidily I believed him. I'm still waiting for the call. I have tried to call back and they hang up and soon I connect and I have tried on all 4 options. This needs to go viral as they are ripping people off.
Wowcher as just as bad as they are not investigating this and keep sending me the same emails saying "The Travel Makers" are a trusted merchant. Joke!

Very much a dodgy company to say the…

Very much a dodgy company to say the least. Bought a Holiday via wowcher for x amount, called The Travel Makers less than 24 hours to book it and they wanted to charge an extra £79 for the flights as "The prices have gone up". I checked the flight prices the day before so I what flights were likely to offered from London, and they had not changed. They even went away and said they could do it for £72 then £55 so not related to the flights at all, just want to squeeze extra money out of people. Asked for a refund on the phone and was advised this would be processed and would get an email. 10 day later, no email recieved.

Have chased up Wowcher and the Travel makers pretty much every day since and still not received confirmation my refund has or will be processed.

So much for the claims of a hassle free refund!

Misleading, Unprofessional, and Still No Resolution

⭐ 1 Star – Misleading, Unprofessional, and Still No Resolution

I booked a Paris deal through Wowcher, which was fulfilled by Travel Makers, and the experience has been nothing short of shocking.

After redeeming my vouchers, Travel Makers immediately tried to change the hotel and flights, demanded extra payments, and then claimed the only flights available would leave me with just a few hours in France and include a stopover. This is absolutely not what was advertised and not what I paid for.

Since raising these issues, I’ve been told daily that my case is being “looked into” and “referred,” yet despite repeatedly chasing, I’ve had no meaningful update or resolution. The communication is slow, vague, and feels like stalling rather than genuine support.

After researching the company, I found countless reviews from other customers describing the exact same pattern — upselling, last‑minute changes, and failure to provide the advertised package. It’s extremely concerning to see how many people have had identical experiences.

I have requested a full refund, as the package offered is not what was sold, and the way this company operates feels misleading at best. I’ve also included screenshots of other reviews showing the same issues.

At this point, I feel completely let down, ignored, and misled. I would strongly advise others to avoid Travel Makers altogether.

Wowcher

Wowcher – the price looks great at first, but it’s not clearly stated that it’s only a starting price and that you’ll almost always have to pay extra later. After buying the voucher (especially for city breaks), it’s definitely worth calling straight away. Even though they say you can contact them by email, no one really reads or replies to those.

Travel Makers – very nice people, but communication can be a bit difficult. They don’t always really listen to what you’re saying. It’s best to buy vouchers well in advance, because the price can go up a lot if you wait.

The trip itself – cheap flights are cheap flights, everyone knows what to expect, so no surprises there.

Accommodation – honestly, the hotel surprised me in a good way. I was worried it would be some kind of dump or, even worse, that there would be no booking at all. But it turned out to be a big plus: nice, clean hotel. It was quite far from the city centre, but public transport worked well, so it wasn’t a problem.

Overall – a positive experience. I thought I wouldn’t use this website again, but after this trip I can say that even though I had to pay a bit extra, I still think it was a good deal

Bait & Switch Selling - AVOID AVOID AVOID

I am writing on behalf of my 18‑year‑old daughter. She bought two Wowcher vouchers on 15 December for a Prague trip advertised at £140, having checked that 16–19 January was shown as available at that price. After redeeming the vouchers, Travel Makers called (Which I heard as it as on loud speaker) and said those dates would cost an extra £99 per person. When she declined, they spoke over her, were patronising, and pushed alternative dates she cannot make. She requested a refund on 16 December; no booking has been confirmed, yet they refused and told her to take it up with Wowcher. She works part time while studying and saved for this as a gift for her boyfriend; she cannot make the alternative dates and cannot afford the extra charges, so her savings are now tied up in a trip she cannot take and she has no funds for a replacement gift. The whole experience has been stressful, frustrating, and very time‑consuming. In our experience, this felt like a bait‑and‑switch: advertise one price, add costs at booking, then stonewall refunds. Based on this, we would urge others to avoid Travel Makers.

Purchased a 2 night stay to Marrakesh and once redeemed the voucher we have had no communication from Wowcher or travel makers, when we have phoned the companies they hang up and never ring back when they say they will on the odd occasional they answered. The attitude is disgraceful! Definitely a scam we have lost our money but will be going through trading standards and small court. Do not buy from them

If I could give no stars I would.

If I could give no stars I would.

It’s all a complete scam. Purchased a three night holiday to Prague but only once redeeming the vouchers was I told that the hotel advertised wasn’t available (the alternative was well outside the city centre) and to get decent flights I’d have to pay another £419. I asked for the options to be sent to me but nothing ever was. I was also told that if I’d change my dates or destination I could get decent flights for what I’d already paid - not what I had purchased or they had advertised.

Wowcher’s terms clearly state that if you have redeemed the vouchers but not booked anything then you are entitled to a full refund. I rang up the next day and asked for a refund, was told it would be referred to the refund department and I’d hear in 4 days. Over a week later I hadn’t heard so rang again, and was told a completely different story that the refund comes from Wowcher (it doesn’t, the merchant is responsible).

I have since emailed holidayservices@ thetravelmakers.co.uk and holidays@ the travel makers.co.uk three times about my refund and no-one has bothered to reply and I still don’t have my money back.

It’s a complete scam and the people you speak to on the phone will tell you any old lie just to get you off the phone and not give you your money back. It’s been three weeks since I bought the voucher and I have nothing to show for it and now they’re illegally keeping my money too.

Edit - I eventually received a refund after three and a half weeks of perseverance.

We recently purchased a Malta 3 night…

We recently purchased a Malta 3 night deal from Wowcher via the order number above.

We received no email confirmation for the purchase from Wowcher or the travel operator The Travel Makers.

After three days we decided to contact the travel operator ourselves as was unsure if the reservation was indeed valid.

The Travel Makers were aware of our booking however could not honour the price the holiday was originally booked for or the listed hotel *Solano They said they would call us back after they had tried to get us the advertised accommodation.

We never received a call, so called them again the next day. It was at this point they offered us yet another price!! Even more than the previous day with a lower starred hotel as well a different airport!! The price was now double what we had originally been quoted by Wowcher. Again they said they would call us back whilst they tried to find a better deal yet they did not.........

We called again the following day to be offered a different country!! In fact Portugal, again different airport which included a 3 hour stop at an airport in southern England.

It was at this point we were really dubious about the holiday company and searched them online only to find other Wowcher customers had had a similar experience. I even came across Facebook groups set up especially about Wowcher travel deals and the negative similar experiences others had had!

Some customers even spoke of being sent last minute notifications before flying demanding more funds whilst others mentioned being left standard abroad whilst travelling with children and received no communication from The Travel Makers or Wowcher.

At this point would not actually feel safe flying with the Travel Makers even if it was a free trip!

To say I am dis appointed with Wowcher is an understatement, especially after being a loyal customer for several years. The stress and upset of what was supposed to be a special birthday treat has been very upsetting.

You quoted "With the cost of living still impacting everyone our ability to connect consumers and businesses feels more important than ever"

It appears you do not follow through on your pledges.

Shocking service & poor offerings

If I could give zero stars I would. Wowcher’s bought and redeemed for 4 x vouchers to Marrakech. The holiday was not doable due to flight times unknown at time of purchase. Shocking service from The Travelmakers who were extremely pushy in trying to get me to change my plans. The hotel advertised not available. I started to get concerned so asked for a refund which was refused by The Travelmakers even though the T&C’s say I can. No communication from Wowcher after they asked me to confirm my email address and complete silence from The Travelmakers since I contested their WhatsApp message. I feel that both companies are a con. They currently have £550 of my money with no communication

Avoid The TravelMaker – Left stranded with my child, ignored and insulted travel…

This was by far the worst travel experience of my life, entirely caused by the shocking incompetence and disregard shown by The TravelMaker.

Let me be clear:
My accommodation technically existed – but upon arrival in the afternoon, I was left stranded with my 15-year-old daughter, unable to access the property because no entry codes were provided.
The place turned out to be a privately rented apartment, not a hotel as advertised.
The host didn’t answer the phone, and neither did The TravelMaker.
We were left standing outside a locked building in a foreign country, with no support, no instructions, and no one taking responsibility.Due to the situation I was forced to book another accommodation as I couldn't connect neither with the travel agency and the private host
As a mother, I felt helpless and furious – what was supposed to be a relaxing city break turned into an incredibly stressful, unsafe situation for both of us.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only issue:
– Passenger details were incorrect, despite me providing the correct ones in advance.
– Transfers were disorganised and confusing, putting our return flight at risk.
– Hidden charges appeared after booking – dishonest and unacceptable.
– And to top it off, their email response was shockingly dismissive – blaming me, minimising their failure, and offering no meaningful help or apology.

There is no real customer service , no 24/7 emergency line, and no direct coordination with local providers. Once you’ve paid, you’re basically on your own.

This company is not a real travel agency. They’re a careless, irresponsible reseller of low-budget packages, with zero customer care, zero transparency, and zero empathy.
If you value your money, your time, and your family’s safety – avoid The TravelMaker at all costs.

The worst company I have ever seen

The worst company I have ever seen. They are complete scam artists. I bought a holiday through Wowcher and they have constantly adding more money onto the holiday for flights or hotels or anything. When I asked to cancel they flat out refused. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY OR WOWCHER FOR HOLIDAYS

I'm going to leave a review here before…

I'm going to leave a review here before they write more fake good reviews for themselves to push this down the list.

I booked a weekend in Rome, which equates to less than 48 hours out of the country, and I have never had such issue and stress. I have been treat awfully by this company. I have spent 5 hours collectively on the phone with them to do a name change on my account which was their fault in the first place.

They will argue that my name change has been completed and that is the end.

Some highlights of my time on the phone with TTM are;
- Being asked by an agent what my login details and password is for Ryanair so he could log on and correct details himself
- Being hung up on despite not raising my voice or swearing - Clarke the supervisor agreed with this.

- Being told by multiple agents that if they were in this position they would do the same in trying to get some justice/compensation

- Not receiving a confirmation email, emailing them for it, not getting a response, then phoning them, them sending it and my name being incorrect on the booking.

- Receiving numberous chatgpt emails detailing their sincerest apologies and how serious they are taking the case and customer service

-Being told on 3 different occasions that the name change has been done and will be availble to put on my ryanair app in 24 hours. None of which times was the name change completed.

- Being told a manager does not have authorisation to give a refund or compensation for the terrible experience I had with the company. I was also told that no one in the office had the contact details of the Director or someone above the manager to speak to.

- Asked for numerous callbacks. I received 1. When I was told I would get a call back, they didn't adhere to the timings I was told, thus, me having to call back and chase it up myself.

- When I told them I could book this on skyscanner and not have this much issue I was asked 'Why didn't you do that then?'

Basically, once your money is transferred and out of your bank account, this company will wash their hands of you, high 5 eachother on the sale and then you will be chasing them for your holiday.

Before they chime in with their chatgpt reply, I was offered £100 credit for the next time I book with TTM, which I declined.

I would advise for people to not be fooled by Wowcher and the marketing materials. I was advertised £79pp but ended up paying £130 extra as well as flights to London from Glasgow, so £230 extra on top of the £79pp for less than 48 hours in Rome. A total of £370. I wasn't even disputing this, but now it feels like insult to injury when there is very little faith in what I have booked. I also know that the hotels they offer are never central to the city and I have a 40 minute journey each way to get in and out of Rome, once I have travelled 1 hour and 30 across the city from the airport to the hotel. Again, not as much of an issue if I didn't have such a bitter experience with the company.

Basically, they are liars, hypocrites and wronguns. I also invite anybody to do their own research onto the Travel Makers on Companies House and view the public domain accounts as it looks like there's no money in the bank anyway even if I was to get a refund...suspicious????????????????????????

Absolute scam

Absolute scam! I booked a holiday through wowcher, TBH it looked too good to be true so I took extra insurance out through wowcher. You have to redeem your voucher to speak to the travel makers, when I did I found it would be 12 hours travelling from Manchester to lake garda (should be 2.5 hours). I told them this wasn't acceptable so they found a direct flight, which would cost me double to an airport further away, which would have a £180 transfer cost. I was promised a call back with alternative holidays, that never happened. When I called back and spoke to "Dean" definitely not his real name they're in India he had made no effort to find another holiday and I had to go over everything again. When I asked why I didn't get a call back I got 5 minutes of sarcasm! I have asked for a refund and been told I can't have one as I've redeemed the holiday, this has apparently been escalated to a manager, but I've been waiting a week for a call back. I've sent emails/WhatsApp messages to travel makers and wowcher. Wowcher don't want to know, they tell me to contact travel makers. I've now paid for another holiday through a proper travel agent, but I'm out of pocket for this one! I've tried to cancel through wowcher, using the extra insurance I paid for but they say its redeemed so I can't, they really have you trapped!!!

I booked a weekend trip to Malta via wowcher. At £130 each. It's crazy that you're forced to redeem the voucher to be able to receive a phone call from the travel makers. It sounded like the agent was half asleep in India somewhere. They offered me under 40 hours in Malta with 16 hours of travel with a stop over in Frankfurt both ways. When I said this was unacceptable they offered me an alternative departing and arriving to different airports for and extra £350. I stated this wasn't going to work and I couldn't change my dates.

Both the travel makers and wowcher haven't been helpful in offering me a refund. Wowcher keep referring me to the travel makers and the travel makers state I have accepted a credit note. Which I haven't. I have received no correspondence from the travel makers. I've now been at a stalemate with them for about a week. After they offered me a full refund over the phone and have now backtracked.

Please don't book with these criminals.

Awful. Don't do it. Scammers.

Awful, awful company. I booked through Wowcher who don't tell you who you will be booking with. I booked on Boxing Day, I then found them on Trustpilot and saw the reviews and asked for a refund 24 hours later, they told me it non-refundable and I explain that it is and I have not booked anything with them. I have spoken to them multiple times and they always ask why I want my money back, I tell them every time it's because of the 1.4 star reviews and I always get back "ma'am, we have 4.5 stars". Well, show me the 4.5 star customer service because it's now 27 January, I have been fighting to get my £270 back which has put me in debt. I have spoken with Elijah, Sonja and Clive (or something to that effect) who is meant to be their supervisor and each time they say it's non-refundable and eventually they say I will get it. I've been promised multiple dates that I will get this back
Wowcher are about as useful as a chocolate teapot to support because you have to go through WhatsApp to be able to get any support. They ignored me for about two weeks and then get the TravelMakers to call me who got Elijah to call, who denied having ever spoken to me even though I have his name in an email (which they never responded to) and they promise call backs which they never do. I have been very patient and I finally lost it on Friday and I was told I wasn't listening to him (Elijah) and I'm just shouting at him, well of course I fecking am! This is beyond ridiculous.
I have been promised the money will be in my account today by Clive and if not, I'm calling the police.
