Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 78 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the service and user experience to be significantly degraded, describing it as having gone to "trash" and becoming "shoddy." People frequently reported issues with logging in, including being locked out of their accounts, problems with password recovery, and difficulties with CAPTCHA verification that made the service inaccessible. Reviewers also expressed frustration with the lack of accessible customer service, noting that there was often no contact help number and that attempts to reach support were largely unsuccessful or complicated by paid premium services. However, some customers also noted that the email service used to be reliable and efficient, and a few still found it to be a good source of news and information.

Not User Friendly

Used to be great but things went downhill when Yahoo ditched the security questions function if a password was forgotten. In general there are too many accounts, too many passwords, too much digital garbage to deal with in life. Sexist advertisements are the final nail in the coffin for Yahoo Mail for me.

Hard slap from Yahoo

I’ve been a loyal Yahoo Mail user for over a decade, back when the platform proudly offered 1TB of free storage. That was one of the main reasons I stayed. Now, without any meaningful justification or user-first thinking, that storage has been slashed down to 15GB. That’s not an update-it’s a downgrade of massive proportions.

Reducing storage from 1TB to 15GB feels like a complete betrayal of long-term users. Over the years, people trusted Yahoo with important emails, documents, and memories, believing the service would remain stable. Instead, users are now being forced into a corner-either delete years of data or pay to keep what was once freely promised.

What makes this worse is the lack of transparency and respect. There’s no real acknowledgment of how disruptive this is for users who built their digital lives around Yahoo Mail. It comes across as a purely profit-driven decision, disregarding loyalty and user experience entirely.

In today’s world, where competitors offer better services with more consistency, this move feels outdated and greedy. Rather than improving the platform, Yahoo has chosen to strip it down and push users away.

Extremely disappointing. After years of loyalty, this feels like nothing short of a slap in the face.

I joined yahoo mail twenty years ago

I joined yahoo mail twenty years ago. I had a great experience with yahoo news and email. All good. With the advent of apps all was good and my email address at yahoo was the only one I used. It was efficient and did the job. What went wrong yahoo? You succumbed to the totally inappropriate junk mail into our mail boxes. I received junk mail that was pornographic and I have to add that I have not received this kind of junk mail into my Google email or my Outlook email. You are allowing disgusting content to reach my mailbox and to be honest I have had enough. I changed all my contacts to a new email address and just now finally after 23 years I have deleted my email account. Don't put up with inappropriate junk emails being barraged at you. Act now and delete your account. Yahoo is a dinosaur. RIP.

YAHOO - PLEASE DITCH RESOURCE WASTING ADD-ONS

Yahoo mail used to be fast, efficient and functional. It is approaching unusable. PLEASE RESTORE THE NO-FRILLS ERSION.
1) Multistep login seems to be the norm. First find phone or login (multistep) elsewhere. A 5 min email check takes 20 min. LET USERS CHOOSE (unless there are multiple failed attempt ed logins)
2) JUST DITCH AI. It has never done anything useful but gobbles system resource.
3) Let users turn off extra "goodies" which combined with Windows-11 will kill most systems.
4) email used to be instant delivery - not 2-3 days which I sometimes experience. Paper post may be faster.

Experience suggests that the Yahoo app is Hacker's/s' PlayGround

so have been with yahoo for a long time
had an issue with Glasgow City Council - corruption issues led me to fail and be outcast from that elite force ... was winning in the employment tribunal but then GCC employed an elite bunch of lawyers, I had none.. then .. well ... bla bla bla.. clearly no one is interested .. I tried and now my name is mud and there is nothing i can do about that... despite all my evidence... people are just not interested
.
Is that when I began getting hacker attacks?? was i being gas lighted? is it real or just my laptop acting up...

And then there was a real real physical attack - I seem to be the kind of gal that men like to beat up.. go figure..
Suddenly the hacker attacks get very real and scarey.. my phone begins to act weirdly - the screen enlarges so big you cannot use it and cannot shut down... .lucky for me I was with a taxi driver for work at the time.. he knew about the emergency shut down key thing..
this went on and off for ages .. had to turn off location and blue tooth
Every time i switched these back on again screen blow up
And other stuff on laptop as usual
Then phone broke.. moved sim to new phone.. Hacker in very quickly
So finally I take advice and decide to drop the phone and the number.
Get new better stronger protection phone and new phone number
Slowly move apps over and everything find until I add Yahoo
Well did not actually log into yahoo but that convinced me
Currently keeping yahoo on old phone with old number
Trying to move over email.. because you know what happens .. you stop using an account and then slowly the email begins to die and you lose all those receipts etc stored somewhere
Guess what yahoo say to protect our security they will only let us generate an app password after we clear all browser security protection..
Guess what happened after I did that??
A full 10 to 20 mins of black screen!!!
I would like to move my emails from yahoo but darned if i can see how

Poor tools and no technical help

So, they are changing it so you cannot have more than 15Gb in your e-mail. Makes sense. No different to Gmail.
BUT. No tools to check how much storage you are using. Claims they exist, but...NOPE. Nothing there. And I cannot get help on this issue as technical help is only available to those with paying accounts.....
Guess I'm moving elsewhere...

Avoid this service

Summary - Cynical organisation, carefully avoid.

I have used Yahoo Mail, like others here, for a long time, and it worked well, the trade being my data privacy for their email service.
The move to a 'value added' service follows the well worn path of describing deterioration as improvement, plus the additional treats of not being able to see how much storage you have consumed, or find the button to reveal that.
I was already deGoogling, as a work in progress, and now I can add deYahooing to my task list. I have taken a paid subscription to Proton, and I am moving my digital life back to Europe. No Cloud Act, just GDPR for me.

Yahoo and Yahoo Email. A real Joke!

My wife and I have used Yahoo and yahoo email for over 20 years. The email does NOT work st all anymore. And Yahoo as a search engine and a replacing for Mozilla takes over my computer! For that reason we have Uninstaller both. We a d e now using Chrome and Gmail. As a backup email we both use Hotmail. What a disgrace today's developers are. Yahoo was our Go To web and email provider. A real Thumbs Down to its present state. The old one worked. This does not. It is now a Do Loop which is why we Uninstaller it. Time to switch

Agree with others. Not great, especially for account recovery. Others much better. Adverts very annoying. One good thing was storage however this is now being limited to a meagre 15GB. Time to switch.

Why is this message in your inbox?

We think this message is spam. We still put it in your inbox as the sender is in your contact list. You can mark this message as safe or remove the sender.

I have marked it ``as safe`` more times than I care to remember but this message keeps appearing from the incompetence that is Yahoo.

Then there is this message before you login to your email.

Yahoo makes it easy to enjoy what matters most in your world.

Best-in-class Yahoo Mail, breaking local, national and global news, finance, sport, music, films and more. You get more out of the web; you get more out of life.

It has been shown for many years and no longer relates to the service incompetent Yahoo provides these days

Trying to create a yahoo mail account

Trying to create a yahoo mail account, I've tried 5 different devices, yet when I ask for a 6 digit code to be sent to my mobile via text or via WhatsApp, it never arrives. Typical bs. You spend ages setting it up and you get hit with this crap. To hell with yahoo, going elsewhere for an email account.
