Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 78 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the service and user experience to be significantly degraded, describing it as having gone to "trash" and becoming "shoddy." People frequently reported issues with logging in, including being locked out of their accounts, problems with password recovery, and difficulties with CAPTCHA verification that made the service inaccessible. Reviewers also expressed frustration with the lack of accessible customer service, noting that there was often no contact help number and that attempts to reach support were largely unsuccessful or complicated by paid premium services. However, some customers also noted that the email service used to be reliable and efficient, and a few still found it to be a good source of news and information.

Snoopers

Just like other free mailboxes, Yahoo Mail is a Peeping Tom. It imposes increasingly unacceptable terms and conditions aimed at shameless spying. I'm not paranoid; I've photographed what I'm saying on screenshots. If you know how, you'll see for yourself. You'll be able to see how many snoopers are watching what you do, what you write, and who they are. If you refuse to let yourself be spied on, Yahoo Mail stops working. There is no way to contact them, except through forms that are an obstacle course; they deliberately complicate things. I need my mailbox; a change would cause me several annoying problems, because I don't just have private contacts, and a malfunctioning mailbox can, in some cases, cause financial damage. I've had to open the doors wide to my privacy, deactivating enhanced protection and granting additional permissions, and I have also authorized advertisements by disabling my ad blocker. No matter what you believe, whether it's Yahoo Mail or other well-known majors, they can read your emails, and they do. We are moving more and more towards mafia-like methods, and there seems to be no law to put an end to this nonsense, with regard to the entire internet system. An email provider should be required by law to ensure that its service works regardless of the browser you use, under penalty of having its license revoked. EDIT January 21, 2026 - What I said turned out to be correct, but in an even more serious way than I thought. I used to always stay logged in, but today I logged out, and since then I've had a blank screen with the message "****: too many requests". Trying several steps to fix the problem, I just discovered all the permissions I was granting to Yahoo without knowing it. I had to do it, otherwise it wouldn't work. But I see that 17 features out of 17 were active unbeknownst to me, including microphone and camera. Please, don't ever, ever trust Yahoo Mail, nor the other well-known giants, they are all the same (and partners in crime, I would say). Now I have taken a paid mailbox, it's the only solution to escape from this madness.

Time to change.

I'll have to change my email address!!!!
Emails in one of my files totally disappeared. I tried to contact Yahoo...mission impossible! Also, I did a search to find specific emails. They appeared on my mobile app but not on my desktop. What a joke. I've had enough.

Useless and crap

I'm not gonna lie yahoo mail is pretty shit and recovering lost email accounts from yahoo mail is a very bad system. If you lose your account and want to reset your password, something always goes wrong and is just hard to work with.

Not worth the hassle...

Been with yahoo since about 2001, and was pretty impressed at the time, however now you just get bombarded with scam advertisement for dating sites and online casinos from the states, wouldn't be so bad if you could block them but no no no, there trusted sites, thou not actually licensed under British laws, so not trusted at all, seems they endorse scammers......

You used to be a very good email…

You used to be a very good email service 15 years ago when I opened my account , which is now in all my records with companies and authorities as tax inspection and so on.
You became so terrible, I have no words to describe your behavior other than mere sadistic to loyal long term clients.
Dusgusting work for the last year, just womit at you, hiw ugly you are!!!
You switch off your mail server and don t let people acces to it when they needto pay the bills or to answer i.portant letters. YOU ARE SO UGLY!

Horrible

Horrible, they lock you out of your account, theres no way to help yourself get in as any method just provides you with an error. This is all to force you to use their LIVE SUPPORT phone calls which is a premium service that costs money. Despicable business practices.

Slow Emails after increasing Storage

I find it funny that out of nowhere my Friend and I both received notice from Yahoo we needed to purchase more storage. Both of us deleted many emails from our storage as Yahoo stated to do yet still was told we needed to purchase more. We did so and afterwards Yahoo emails take awhile to access. When opening individual emails, we have to place cursor on body of email for it to open which also takes more time. Never had this problem prior to buying more storage. We plan to switch all of our business to Gmail or Outlook if Yahoo does not get better soon!

I was with AOL

I was with AOL - it was OK till Yahoo took over
Yahoo uses an AI Bot that is pathetic - Claims comments are offensive if one uses quotes from their articles --- when one removes the quote it claims the comment is off point!!!
None stop interferance with reviews - I agree some words have different meanings in English and American

Now I have a message either blocking comments or not allowing comments to be seen

I am now moving over to Google its not worth the aggro

Locked out of 9 year old email 3 weeks ago!

Had an email with them for 9 years which I run my business through. Since they changed their support to a paid premium support I’ve coincidentally been locked out of my account and the only recovery phone number is an old one. Now I’ve been locked out for 3 weeks and no clients can get hold of me. I did get through to their paid support and they sent me an email asking for ID. This was 9 days ago and I still haven’t heard back. I called today but they just told me I need to wait. Absolute joke!
I’ve now opened up a new email with proton, apparently this is the most secure one you can get anyway.

Sudden changes locked my account and there is no service to help sort it out.

I've had a Yahoo mail account for years, it was fine. But now, today, they've suddenly stopped my account from working as they say its full (in fairness it is pretty full!) but I've spent hours deleting emails to create space and then not been able to delete them from the account as it's not working. There are no options to talk to anyone except a phone no which didnt work. I attempted to upgrade so I can get some help (why should I have to upgrade to get help?!!) but as I'm not in the USA it wont accept my upgrade. I've tried speaking to "customer service" on facebook who told me to send a form which has not not been answered and I have to sit by my compluter to see if an email has arrived (it hasn't). I've spend hours trying to sort this out but been unsuccessful as they don't want you to be able to contact them for help. What a waste of my life. I may have lost a job due to this happening. I'm furious. I will be transferring my account to by Gmail account from now on. My advice is these are outdated services and have no care for their customers at all even to take their money haha which seems a crazy business model!

I was locked out of my account for no reason!

I was locked out of my account for a month. I was not given a reason, each time I tried logging in I would type the username (there was no password field, only a “next” option bellow the username field), I would click “next” and then it would lock me out with a message "try again in 24 hours" and no explanation or reason. Then the next day (after 24 hours) the exact same thing would happen. For no reason, with no way of contacting someone, asking for help (there is no customer service) or doing anything at all. It was my work email, that caused me very serious issues with my job and my clients. So I stopped using this email and started using gmail, but the transition was and still is extremely difficult, I had been using the yahoo email for years, I have a lot of work related emails, this situation has caused me a lot of problems.

Unable to block phishing or spam sender

Senders are able to include "From a Trusted Sender" in their emails which then means you cannot block them. All you can do is delete the emails. Yahoo support simply didn't help, saying they couldn't view the info I sent them. They didn't need to see the images, I explained by text. They had no response.

Old emails missing

Old emails missing! Since being forced onto the new style account I have lost old emails. I now have emails from 2023 only to present day. The old account I had around 8 pages to go back over, now I just one page. Does this mean emails will be deleted on a rolling basis? If so this is worrying. Can not get a reply from yahoo they too seem a faceless company.

Unreliable Rubbish

I operate my Yahoo Mail account from 3 different computers depending upon where I am. I also use my mobile phone.
Every time I go to log in on my computers I have to prove I am not a bot
I am asked to tick small boxes with grainy out of focus photos of certain items.
This is a very limited way of proving who I am and being visually handicapped I'm ticking boxes forever
Then I get locked out
If I use my phone I get in straight away.
So this proves what a stupid user unfriendly way the "I'm not a robot" system is
Yahoo your system stinks. You have no interest in your users "welfare"
