Its expensive but soooo fast!!

Its expensive!!! But if you only have 2mps broadband and no prospect of fibre there is no other choice. I connected Starlink to Netgear Oribi ( in AP mode). The ORBI has 3 satellites around the house. Throw out the BT Broadband router as that's next to useless. Only downside is Starlink router is sitll broadcasting WIFI; cant turn this off as I need NAT and DHCP. Getting around 198mbps constant. Around 42 devices connected eg. Google Home speakers, lights, heating controls etc etc. All flying at high speed on CAT6 wire or through Orbi.

Cons: (1.) silly wire plug design...you have to create a huge hole in wall to get the plug through without damaging it. Should have been straight. (2.) difficult creating an account through the app or even browser. Managed to create by using a VPN (free on edge). (3.) app should allow wifi to be disabled and still use NAT and DHCP. If you turn off the router wifi to use your own mesh you'll end up with o DHCP to hand out IP addresses.

Pros: (1.) fast broadband.

Crooks

I cancelled my account with them three months ago and returned the dish. I got an email from them confirming the account was cancelled. However someone at Starlink has just charged me £201 for nothing. And there is no support I can speak to.

Some things to know. It’s okay(ish)

Some things to know. You’re on your own if there’s a problem. No phone number. ‘Raise a ticket’ online (not easy if your broadband is down). You have to buy extra parts to connect anything to the dismal router eg any sort of modem extender (not cheap)

Unless you have a flat roof you can’t attach the dash to any wall or roof without even more money. It just comes with 4 legs.

The router is TERRIBLE. 5 metres and 2 stud walls looses 70% of the speed. Most of the house has no WIFI Signal so budget for either the extortionate Starlink product or buy 3rd party.

On the upside the app is very pretty and nice to use.

I’m loosing 90% of the speed using Google WIFI extenders but I get by.

The direct connection quickly drops my iPhone off the network as I move out of range and often doesn’t re-acquire it without going into phone settings all the time.

If you’re buying Starlink you’re probably desperate. I do love the proper upload speed - in theory download is 111 MBps. Reality - Overall maybe 28 Mbps download and 5 MBps upload at point of use, so it’s fine for home working.
In summary with high upfront cost, extras needed and at £75 / month pricing - it’s very poor, but if you’re reading this you’re probably out of other options.

On the face of it a great solution for…

On the face of it a great solution for remote homes with no fibre possibility.
Easy to set up.
Then the problems start. Unless you sit next to the router performance is average at best and sometimes non existent. You have to spend a fortune adding extenders to make the system useable.
THEY HAVE DEVELOPED A SYSTEM THAT CAN PROVIDE BROADBAND FROM SPACE TO THE ROUTER IN YOUR HOME BUT CANT PROVIDE A ROUTER THAT IS CAPABLE OF GOING THE REMAINING DISTANCE INSIDE YOUR HOME.

LOTS OF WORK TO BE DONE HERE!!!

Broken Router and non customer service might as well be bots.

Ordered Starlink 8 weeks ago. 4 weeks later it arrives, get it professionally installed and router a dud.

They order a new router and... nothing. They refuse to accept a return, still charging me for the service AND say it is at the factory ready for collection but DHL couldn't collect it for 2 weeks.

Utter joke. After a week of getting a sweet spot and connection issues sorted out and singing the praises of this utter trash company the narc in charge and the underlings decide to cut my connection for kicks. Being sent back and I hope to never deal with these jokers again.

ETA But wait there's more. Not only are they trying to spread my cheeks wanting the full months payment for an unusable service but also want me to provide the lube too with a reconnection fee.

Customer support needs looking at. …

I like the simplicity of installation and the clear instructions. Also like the broadband speed we have now at our very rural location up in the North Pennines.
I do not like the lack of communication lines with Starlink. 4 weeks ago we ordered two mesh nodes to have better signal in all parts of the house. First confirmation 1-2 weeks lead time. Then after time elapsed update for another two weeks. Then after that elapsed another confirmation with het another week delay. No explanation, no email address, no phone nr to speak to someone. Nothing, only the option to cancel the order.
What a useless customer support service!
I’ll have no choice but to wait but not as happy as I was initially, hence the 3 star rating

OK So far great speeds ... but !

There's no wifi router that will get thru lots of bricks and walls and other obstructions.
I am in rural Spain the skies are clear and there are enough satellites I ignore the app and pointed the dish straight up. We get great speeds compared with 4/5G and there's no broadband or fibre full stop. 4/5G was very patchy anyway with both EE and Vodafone doing victimisation of connections and always data limits.

So far its been reliable but I am not going to address that.
To get the best setup you have to ditch using the routers wifi or expecting it to reach that far. I bought the ethernet adapter and have an 8 way netgear switch. 3 of those output LAN connections each go via ethernet cables to separate WAVLINK AC1200 aerials, each have both 2.4 and 5 G outputs with monster aerials these are beasts and not that expensive. They are all set with the same ssid's and passwords. That reaches everywhere in out large house without attenuation and for more than 100m in all directions. If you want wifi everywhere thru brick walls with no drop in throughput that's what you have to do. Mesh systems are ok ish but I gave up on them long ago when the cost far outweighed the claims.
The dish gets hot in mid thirties temperatures and the router is always very hot .. I am going to disable wifi entirely on it as I believe the temperature is occasionally causing outages that only last a few seconds. You wont notice this if you're streaming buffered or browsing.
The wifi reach problem is completely dependant on output power and obstacles. Its purely physics.
2.4G reaches further than 5G but carries less data
5G carries more data but has a shorter reach than 2.4G
If you're getting problems with reach add an ethernet dongle connect to a switch and then use a 2.4G booster aerial. Again its pure physics as you're most likely using 5G if its not going through normal house walls.

Update : One issue I spotted below I also experienced DHL. They didn't even both to attempt delivery to our address which is easy to find but dropped the items off straight to a collection point.

Update : 3 weeks in and there have been a lot of persistent and contiguous dropouts many over 15s. Today has been the worst with 15s dropouts all day long approximately every 2 mins. Yesterday on the other hand there were only a few. While that is fine for remotely viewing our camera's its absolutely useless for remote working. Netflix, internet radio, streaming services of all sorts that dont buffer just constantly stutter and its getting worse each day.

Limited functionality

For a campervan needing connection. It could work fine, but for a house it’s useless as a) there’s very few places without any obstructions so getting a perfect signal is hard (unless you pay to get it wall mounted, but we are trialing it). B) you can’t plug any Ethernet cables into it so your hive, cctv etc is useless. C) customer support is terrible, our kit has clearly been used before and I tried to contact support and they make it impossible. Interesting technology that will improve, but I’ll be avoiding for now

Getting decent perofrmance, but the mesh routers are rubbish - very poor range. Dont bother with them.

One of mine failed, I have logged a ticket and days later not a single response.

You need to invest in in country spares, and you need to invest in support people. You charge TOP money, but as 4g and 5g improves, as does fibre, you're going to lose people fast.

sort it out.

Utterly useless

Utterly useless. Ordered a StarLink two weeks ago. DHL were unable to deliver for some reason, then unable to leave at a DHL service point and have returned the package to the sender. I have attempted to contact StarLink customer services for over a week now with no responses or replies. I then clicked on the refund option and received a message saying there is a problem with my refund and contact StarLink (you guessed it!) customer services. I will be contacting my bank now in order to get my money back. If I could give no stars I would!

Literally zero customer service

Literally zero customer service, router is shockingly bad and you can’t plug in an Ethernet port without ordering an adapter which takes another 2-3 weeks to arrive whilst they still charge you. Goes offline constantly, extremely unstable and unreliable.

We purchased Starlink a few months ago…

We purchased Starlink a few months ago when the kit was £400. We've installed on the roof properly using correct brackets etc. First two weeks everything seemed fine. We noticed a lack of signal in parts of the house so decided to purchase the Starlink mesh nodes. We purchased three of them at a cost if around £140 each. So I'm in for Kit £400 and mesh nodes £420. Install costs and brackets about £200.00 from local guy I use. So about £1000 in so far. We started to discover the router would disconnect from the dish. Solved that issue with some firmware updates. Oh yes Starlink perform firmware updates it will crash your system out. Secondly the mesh nodes would disconnect from the main router. We explored looking at bypassing the router and putting a TP Link in but then I thought why? We've spent enough paying a premium price for a premium service you shouldn't have to look at bypassing the routers. I know some IT people like to do this but majority of people will just get everything out of the box and use that.

When it works well it does but its down more times than its up and with constant connection issues we've decided to remove it altogether. We are reverting back to our BT option which we kept in case the above happened.

I think the concept is great but needs to be a lot more reliable. Sorry Elon must try harder with this.

If you want to try it just have an open mind. We live in a big house. I think if you have a smaller house and only use the dish and main router then it will be more reliable. Once you start adding mesh nodes it becomes more complex.

Starlink, Very disappointing

Ordered Starlink hardware on the 2nd May.. it arrived promptly 3 days later. Dead easy to set it up, that’s when things got frustrating..
The system won’t connect, as it says it’s not at the registered address..
Well it was delivered to me, at my registered address.
Reviewing the App, it has my address (lay/long) in Scotland..
I don’t live in Scotland, my post code is Guernsey, a fair distance..
The only way to make contact with Starlink, is via “Support” in the App.
18 days later, no response, but I have received an invoice for the next billing period..
So the money gathering section of Starlink is clearly very efficient..
Customer service, is nonexistent..
Mr Musk, for such a promising service, your basic operations are sorely lacking….
So very disappointing 🤬

Like being back on dial up some days.

When you put the dish on top of the house and you live on top of a mountain, you would think the speeds would be what we were promised, we can't even get 20Mbps, go to the help page on the site and it turns out it's all my fault for having a properly built house, you know the ones that use concrete, bricks, plaster etc. Had i been told i needed to live in a tent for it to work properly i wouldn't have bothered.

I ordered a replacement cable and it’s been delayed. I messaged customer support and within seconds was credited with a month’s subscription fee.
I can’t fault the service delivered. Yes, I’d prefer to have had the replacement cable the next day, but the current situation with supply issues, I completely understand. The fact that Starlink customer care just credited me instantly is great service as far as I’m concerned.

just pray you don't need any customer…

just pray you don't need any customer support as its non existent. Had starlink for 1 week, ethernet works fine but inbuilt wifi has stopped working. Only way to make contact is vias the ap and they don't respond in spite of daily messages. Absolute shitshow.

i pray the ethernet keeps working otherwise ill be left high and dry
