Via play is Pants

Via play is absolutely awful . Euro Qualifier production is very poor , inane commentators . No idea how to actually present a football match. 'Build Up' starts 10 mins before game and at half time there's no analysis but often highlights of a completely unrelated event, sport etc. Package I bought included a bunch of films and Sandanavian dramas you've never heard of and that are all barely fit for afternoon viewing by methadone users and housebound octogenarians, AVOID!

Regarding the Scandinavian dramas: Nordic Noir is am internationally very highly acclaimed genre of series and movies, often using very distinctive techniques and styles.
This is of course much different to other genres, and it is perfectly allowed to have other preferences in this regard - Viaplay is a streaming service with origins in Scandinavia, and therefore also like to celebrate these.
This is in part done by Viaplay producing new movies and series in the genre ourselves, as well as offering other films and series in the genre.
This is marketed extensively, and completely available information before even signing up for a Viaplay subscription.

Firstly - you've reviewed the Danish Viaplay service and not the British - but not to bother.

I had a look at the Chat you had with my colleague a few days ago, and see you were informed there that you'd signed up for the online service/App subscription, and not the Sky partner-subscription that would have given you access to the Viaplay Sport 1 and 2 channels on your Sky device.
This was the reason these channels was not available to you, with the subscription you made.
This was thoroughly explained by my colleague when you Chatted with us, and as you also mention in your update to this review - we have refunded you for the subscription.

With that in mind I am very sorry to see that you despite this, still only think we at Viaplay deserve a 1-star review here. I believe there is not much more we could have done in this situation, than to explain that this was due to making a subscription for the wrong product, and then refunding your payment of this as soon as you contacted us in this regard.

Cannot set up payment on website

Edit 20/06/2023 following Viaplay response - before placing this review, customer services were contacted on that number a couple of times and I was in email contact with that address and still, the subscription could not be set up
[rant] My husband and I are trying to take up the £59 annual subscription via the Sky button on the Viaplay website and have tried to subscribe with 2 different cards for 2 different banks both online (more than 20 times) and by telephoning the satellite team on 3 occasions. I get ‘sorry there is a problem’ every time on the Viaplay website after I verify the payments through my banks and the Viaplay customer services team get the same result with no other assistance other than it’s a problem with the banks! I have called both banks and they confirm there is no problem with either card and they are authorised for the 3DS2 authentication protocol used by Viaplay.
All I want to do is set up a subscription but to be honest I am so frustrated now and no one seems to be able to constructively help me from Viaplay so looks like we are at a stalemate 😡

Rude, unhelpful customer service

The streaming service itself is fine - the problem is the totally inadequate customer service when things go wrong.
Having just spent 30 mins online chat with a 'customer service manager' after receiving a number of emails saying my payment card was 'incorrect'. My bank confirms there is no problem and that viaplay had made no attempt to take this month's payment. Despite that the agent kept typing that i needed to give them my paypal as my card 'had no funds'. I asked to speak to a manager only to be told there were no managers working this week but one could email 'within the month'. Ask for a complain email and was told to email info@viaplay. Have now emailed viaplay's CEO but unless I get some very good reason why, will be cancelling my subscription.

I'm very sorry you feel you were treated wrongly or in inadequate fashion by our Customer Support. I've therefore looked into the Chat you had yesterday, with my colleague - allow me to explain in detail here, as it seems there may have been a misunderstanding or two throughout this.

After reading through the Chat that lasted just over 15 minutes, until you stopped responding to my colleagues messages, it was explained that we could see several attempts in our system to charge your card for the subscription you had started with us, which for some reason had not been possible. After these attempts, the subscription was closed due to the lack of payment. You then told us that your bank could not see any attempts to charge this subscription.

I can of course not guarantee exactly where this (what seems to be a technical error, as was also suggested by my colleague in the Chat) has happened - it could both be in our system, or with your bank - impossible for me to say with certainty.
However - what I can say with absolute certainty is that my colleague offered two possible solutions to this, that by the looks of it - you were not interested in. Let me explain the options for solution presented to you here:

1. We could manually remove your card from the account, giving you the option to re-add this card to the account and start a new subscription then. This option was offered, in case something with the registration of your card in our system had technically failed - typically re-adding the card will sort this out.
2. We explained that it is also possible to pay for Viaplay with PayPal, so if you preferred this option that was an equally viable option for you.

With the above options in mind, I do not see how this could be interpreted as "the agent kept typing that i needed to give them my paypal as my card 'had no funds'".
To me, that speaks merely of a mind set to find various reasonable solutions to the issue at hand.
From what I can read in the Chat, your immediate next point of action is to ask to speak to a manager, without any willingness to attempt either of these options for solution of the issue at hand, presented to you.
I and my colleagues in the Viaplay Customer Support try our very best to assist our users, in the best and most effective way possible, I can assure of this.
But - if the user is not interested in any of the solutions we can present, or even to work together with us to solve this, in all honesty, that complicates the process of solving any issue greatly. And in some cases, makes it impossible for us to reach a solution.

Viaplay One Time Offer 😂

I tried to sign up for the Viaplay one time offer of £59. I was re directed to Sky tv where the price is £14.99 pm presumably as I’m a returning customer although Viaplay say the offer applies to those too. Very poor commercial practice and a potential customer alienated.

Charged 3 times for 1 month. Worst customer service ever.

Worst customer service ever. Still trying to resolve issue since 25th April now may 12th and unresolved. Charged me 3 times for one month’s subscription. Have proof of cancellation and their acknowledgment of this by email yet they still charged me again. Will not refund me the extra 2 payments they took out my account. Very rude customer services that never call you back. Still arguing to get my refund. Joke of a company.

SCAM!!

I signed up via Amazon who directed me to their via play site, I done what I was instructed to do for the one off purchase and I have just found they are taking money out my account. Made contact and explained to them the issue and they have refused to close it down saying they have contracted me to 12 months and there is now way out at all! It’s a scam and I am in the process of taking it to the ombudsman.

Do not waste your time or money!!!!!

Bought for the Scottish cup semi final today and honestly what a shambles. The actual coverage was decent, but the road to get there was a joke.
Firstly, for £14.99 a month, it's abysmal that you can only stream from one device. I'm a student, so have to buy my own subscription instead of using my account on my families.
Secondly, after trying to liaison with a family member to stream on two devices, and subsequently failing, I spent the next 10 minutes arguing with the app that was telling me it was being streamed elsewhere on my account - IT WASN'T.

honestly would not recommend to anyone else, it's a crap service. I wish I could get a refund on this.

Sneaky crap provider

I went onto viaplay to try to watch the football on sky but they are sneaky and give you streaming on tablet laptop etc. I want to watch on TV. Think I've got subscription money back after phoning their Leeds office which also very hard to find. Tel no for them is 01132018388. Hope this helps other people. The only good part of the experience was their advisor Marita who I give 10/10 to. I don't even want to give them 1 star but only way I could review. HOPE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINES!!!!!

It's hard to cancel. Way too expensive. Not much to offer.

I've been not using much as the quality of streams was just terrible. There isn't much options and it's way too expensive for what it offers.
I have struggle to cancel my subscription.
I found the cancellation procedure very tricky. The cancellation button was dark as like the page background while the button keep the subscription was eye-catching red colour.
I do belive many older people or ppl in a rush could easily get it wrong. Even though they would want to cancel it and believed they did still would have been charged.
Terrible ways of keeping the customers and ripping them off money. It's a HUGE no from me.

If I am understanding correctly, you are complaining that there is a five minute window between our Formula 1 Live feed ends and that it is made available as Catch-Up to watch after the race ended.

There is a technical process that needs doing to convert the Live stream to a Catch-Up feed.
This can in some rare cases to a little bit of time - usually it is quite quickly dealt with and shortly after the Live events has ended, it is available for your enjoyment.
I believe five minutes is within reason for this.

Actually - five minutes just about gives you time to run to the kitchen, pop some popcorn and grab a cold beer in the fridge before race starts! ;)
