Quality of finish and colour variation

We purchased the 9” flooring in the Daisy finish and like many other reviewers, we've found the color of the boards to be extremely inconsistent. So far, we've counted at least seven visibly different shades among the planks, making it nearly impossible to achieve a uniform look. In an open-concept space, the variation makes it appear as though we installed multiple types of flooring — which is far from the intended design.

Despite multiple attempts to contact the company, we’ve received little urgency or support in resolving the issue. It’s been disappointing to see such a lack of responsiveness, especially given the impact on our renovation timeline.

At this point, the project is stalled. Proceeding with the current material would mean compromising the aesthetic integrity of the space. I now have nearly 30 boxes of unusable product, and without a resolution, I’m faced with the unfair choice of spending even more money in the hopes of receiving boards that might be usable.

I don’t typically leave negative reviews unless the experience is truly unacceptable, but I felt compelled to share this in the hopes of helping others avoid a similar situation. For what it’s worth, I would never use this product again and recommend purchasing from an alternative supplier.

Attention : Sample vs. Reality / quality mismatch

The quality of the boards delivered does not match the quality of the sample displayed in the store. I purchased the "select" grade, which allows for slight natural color variations, but I received boards with highly contrasting white streaks, sometimes running the entire length along the edge, affecting 30% of the boards. I returned to the store to take a photo of the displayed sample and one of the boards I received. The product sent to me is entirely different.

After being contacted, Vidar refused to acknowledge the discrepancy between the sample and the delivered product, repeatedly stating that wood is a natural product with color variations. While variations are expected, this does not justify white streaks on 30% of the boards, often running their full length. If installed, my floor would resemble a zebra or a barcode.

After weeks of disputes and a home visit from a very professional and pleasant company representative (whom I have no complaints about), Vidar still refused to admit to a quality issue. Instead, they dismissed it as a personal dissatisfaction and offered to take back the entire floor—but with return shipping to Montreal at my expense! Alternatively, they offered one additional box for free, which only covered 5% of the total surface, leaving me with 25% defective boards.

Fortunately, the retailer, Flooring Liquidators Ottawa East, stepped in and covered two extra boxes, bringing the total to three. This reduced the defective boards from 30% to 15%, but I still had to spend days rearranging the boards, cutting out white-streaked sections to place them along walls or in closets.

This turned a simple flooring purchase into an exhausting, frustrating ordeal. I strongly advise against buying from Vidar Flooring. If you do, do not trust the sample—make sure to open at least half the boxes before accepting the product.

To be fair, I’m giving 2 stars because they did send 1 extra box, but that did not solve the problem at all.
