Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 306 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently experienced excessively long wait times on the telephone lines and found the automated virtual assistants completely unhelpful when trying to resolve simple issues. Consumers also struggled with persistent technical problems, missed technician appointments, and frustrating communication breakdowns regarding their service connections and account changes. Some reviewers were happy with specific customer care staff members who provided polite, patient, and truly effective assistance during otherwise difficult calls. These dedicated representatives managed to resolve complicated technical problems successfully and made the overall customer interaction much smoother for those lucky enough to reach them.

Disaster

Disaster. I've been with them for years since the NTL/UPC days. Then last week I stupidly signed up for the faster fibre installation. Big mistake! Firstly i was left with no internet all iver the weekend. I wasn't told that I needed the new telly boxes that don't record RTE BBC and Ch4. I rang to revert back as there's a 14 day cooling off period but they won't change it back. Not to mention that after 1 week the tv box in bedroom still giving Account Error CS1101. I've rung them everyday. They keep telling me it's being worked on. Countless other problems that the technician cancelled my landline and frecked up my Phonewatch which needed a Phonewatch technician to fix. Just one mess after another and I'm just furious with them. I wished I'd never agreed to the fibre installation and I have to ring them AGAIN in the morning to say tv box still not working as they don't work weekends. Infuriating!!!

I have to

I have to, once again, compliment the Virgin Media customer service staff. I have just spoken to Alannah and she helped me in an extremely professional manner. I do hope that Mr Hanway does something about the serious miscommunications between customer service and billing. In future I will just wait and speak to an actual human. I really cannot understand how a fixed charge, agreed with a very polite and professional customer services agent, can suddenly be changed by billing administrators.

Had to give it 1 to allow a review

Had to give it 1 to allow a review. Just don't sign up to these people if you can at all avoid it. Their hold music should be All the Lies that you told me.

I rang twice last week and twice this week about an intermittent broadband dropping issue. Last week first person was to ring me back, 2nd person was to book an appointment and send a new extender. 1st person this week was to call back and send a new extender and 2nd person this week was to send a new extender. Last person also basically accused me of lying. I presume you know where this is going. No call backs, no extender and a service that is still rubbish.

Try and fill in an online complaint and the system keeps sending you around in a circle. When you get through the I am not a robot test and tick the box it starts that process all over again.

Virgin Media...disaster

Virgin Media...disaster! 5 outages in 7 months. Last outage supposed to wait a month for a tech. On phone for 3 hrs...Clearly some staff unable to help, "not in my skill set" used several times. Cancelled account & had to pay cancellation fee & the following month. With a new broadband provider at a 1/3 cheaper! Happy days.

If I could give ZERO STARS I would…

If I could give ZERO STARS I would ..having spoken to at least 11 customer service agents more like untrained pigeons they don't seem to understand their job a simple request for a new box ended up with the wrong address . Wrong tracking code can't wait to change to a new supplier they certainly live up to their reputation as the worst company for customer service they have absolutely no interest in the customer

Intermittent Access

Intermittent Access. Girl on other end thought I was using an extender and tried to explain I was using Wifi. Was working last week, but now is intermittent access. Had to explain to young girl that my PC used a wireless dongle and did not have wireless embedded in the motherboard. She assumed I was using a TP-Link Booster for this connection. I do have a TP-Link Boosterm, but it is not used by my Laptop or PC. Both are wireless. She never bothered to clarify and just assumed based on the ports used per her screen on the helpdesk. Sold me a booster which after realising this wasn't the issue when started to improve again I cancelled it. Virgin - get your act together. Shocking.

An agent that knows what Customer Service means!

If I were to leave a review for your back office team it would be zero stars!!

However this 5 star review is for one of your agents called Daxit. Daxit was extremely helpful to me when I spoke with him earlier on the phone. I have been ringing for the last week due to issues with a change of address that were never resolved and I was told one thing by one department and another thing by another department. Daxit actually took the time and listened to my predicament and dealt with it in a highly professional manner. He processed what I requested after numerous phone calls to various agents and relieved a lot of stress that comes with a house move.

People are quick to write a review to complain about bad customer service so it is only fair to commend good customer service when it is due so thank you Daxit for your friendly and engaging manner on the phone. You turned what was an extremely stressful situation for me around and you were a pleasure to deal with.

Been customer for 5 years and every…

Been customer for 5 years and every single year i have to go through few hours of waiting because they change 40€ contracts to 80€ . And when i try to cancel they haras me every few days with calls offering again 40€ but that later on changes to 80€ in year again. Today i called them to cancel after about 30 minutes being on hold i got connected with customer support, i said i want to cancel . He goes you wanted to cancel last year and laughts , i said look i don’t have time for this can you please cancel my contract. He goes but how will you have internet, i said plenty of choices , he goes but do you own the building i said no i am renting . So you can’t get new internet connected . I am like look i just want to cancel i don’t need your lies just cancel my contract or pass me to someone that will. He was like i have a good offer for you what mobile network are you with . I am like no i don’t want to transfer my number , he was like but it will be cheaper . No i don’t care i just want to cancel my contract so he goes sir you’re aggressive i will have to disconnect you …..After few calls where they would literally drop the call after me waiting average 22minutes i got through, another man started to ask questions if i called before did i speak to anyone else and if i want to transfer my phone number , i said no he said he has offers so i said go on after 30-40 minutes of him talking with offers and me saying i am not interested he was ok sir if you want to cancel contract i will cancel that for you i said great that’s what i wanted in first place . Another 25 minutes of waiting he says my contract is finished in 30 days . After all this every single year i am finally free from these gangsters ! Never again not even if the pay me ! I am done literally requested them to erase me from their data base . Stay away from them !

The single worst customer service I've ever had if zero starts was available I would have picked it. Nobody in customer service could activate an account. Surly that is the first page on the training booklet. Will not use this service again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Worst company and customer service on…

Worst company and customer service on the planet so unhelpful, call wait times over 40 minutes each time u call no matter the time of day ,repeating yourself over and over, I’m fully convinced they sit there picking their nose instead of uploading vital information. Offer new customers mediocre deals but to renew a contract as an existing customer your expected to pay double for the same WiFi connection service explain how that remotely makes sense 🙅🏼‍♀️

Brutal customer service except for Kyler in Billing

I would be leaving a 1 star review but the experience I had with Kyler in Billing deserves 5 stars which is why I'm giving 3. I find Virgin Media impossible to deal with. A mountain turns into a mole hill every time there's an issue and their staff are consistently incredibly unprofessional. How do they get away with it and still get paid? The Corporate Governance has to be accountable. Then I came across Kyler. This guy is in the wrong company! His emotional intelligence, flexibility, practical solution oriented mentality and overall respectful behaviour is a breath of fresh air and the hallmark of an excellent manager. I'd have walked if I hadn't encountered him.

There are no words…..

I wrote a review on May 2nd. The saga continues. Quite honestly do not sign up with this company unless you want to have a breakdown. The amount of hours wasted, going around in circles due to their sheer incompetence. A different response every time you speak to someone. They should not be allowed to operate and essentially steal your money for no service. My son starts his University finals tomorrow and cannot use his laptop after the library closes. I rue the day I ever signed up with them.

Wish I could give Virgin Media Ireland NEGATIVE 20 Stars

The WORST, time-wasting experience with a company EVER - I didn't check reviews before, didn't ask friends or family - Just went for Virgin Media Ireland due to brand name. Initially, I walked into the store in City Centre and signed a contract and the router arrived 2 or 3 days later. We hooked it up. No problem. Trouble cropped up when we moved a few months later.

Communication was abysmal - I needed a smooth transition because I work from home and was working a new job on a critical project. So I went online 3 weeks prior to the move to alert Virgin so it would be a smooth process. No e-mail.

I tried again - there was no record that I'd done so - I had to let them know about 3 times. And I still wasn't sure WTF was up.

If I told you all the details, you'd be reading a disaster novel.

It was so-so-Soooooo frustrating - I'd be screaming about it. It took so LONG. I went back to the bricks-n-mortar store - and the dude says - we can't help you call cancellations.

Endless holds, disconnections and when I finally chatted with the cancellation guy (a 40 minute call with hold-time and conversation) he claimed that installation would take 9 DAYS!

This was late on a Sunday night - I had to start work on Monday at 9am . . . I told him I WFH - I can lose my new job! He said sorry. I told him it was unacceptable and hung up. (NOW. I didn't howl at him or raise my voice.)

Within a MINUTE, an email popped up cause the jerk had signed me up a NEW contract, despite being an existing customer. AND AT A HIGHER PRICE POINT! PLUS, IT WOULD EXTEND 4 MONTHS LONGER! This was never clearly explained.

I couldn't sleep - I was STRESSING. But come 10am I walked into a Three shop up the street, signed up in person, walked home with a portable wireless router, and had working internet WITHIN AN HOUR — for €10 less per month than Virgin Media. No delays, no frustration and a fraudulent new contract, no endless loops of broken support pages and contradictory information.

There was so much red tape and wasted dozens of hours placing a formal ComReg (Commission for Communications Regulation) complaint. I was committed to making a complaint - IMPOSSIBLE on Virgin Site - I thought my journey with Virgin was over? but noooooooo.

Their was NO billing communication for months - until . . . this week - I got a notice from a DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY!! --- NO email from Virgin saying what I owe - (I ended up paying about 200 Euro for absolutely NO service just to make them go away)

So . . . this is why I write, Dear Reader . . .

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! - Beware - Stay away from VILE MEDIA. I strongly advise anyone considering them to think very carefully before committing.

Poor Customer Retention & Lack of Flexibility

Extremely disappointing experience with Virgin Media’s customer retention team.
At the end of my contract, I was offered a new rate of €41.50 per month — an increase of €8.50 from what I was previously paying. When I highlighted that Vodafone is currently offering a better deal (same 1GB package at €35 for 6 months, then €40), I still made it clear that I was willing to stay with Virgin Media to avoid the inconvenience of switching providers.
All I requested was a very reasonable €40 goodwill credit as a gesture to retain a loyal customer.
Instead, your agents repeatedly insisted the price was “fixed” and made zero effort to engage, retain, or even properly consider the request. There was no flexibility, no understanding, and frankly, no real customer service shown.
It’s frustrating that a company would rather lose a paying, loyal customer over such a small and easily resolvable request.
Customer retention clearly isn’t a priority here.
I would appreciate a response from Virgin Media explaining:

Why no goodwill gesture could be offered
What measures are in place to retain existing customers

At this point, I’ve decided to move provider — something that could have been avoided with minimal effort.

This is my second review of Virgin Media and I'm very happy to say the least with Joao who went way beyond the normal service expected and was a pure delight to communicate with. He is a true professional in every sense and did everything possible to arrange an engineer at the earliest opportunity. Thank you very much - Slainthe - Murphy's!!!!
