-1 Star Rating: Vivint is extremely unethical

-1 Star Rating
Vivint is extremely unethical. They locked me into a three-year contract for a product that barely functions. My home is insecure most of the time, and now they want to charge an additional monthly fee to service their faulty equipment. I’m already paying two hefty monthly payments—one for the service and another for the equipment.

It seems they can’t attract new customers due to their poor business practices, so they resort to squeezing money out of their existing customers who are stuck in contracts. If you’re considering signing up, be prepared for plenty of bait-and-switch tactics.

Do not purchase from this company

Do not purchase from this company! We selected Vivint for our home security system due to the excellent reviews and the option for professional installation. The techs cancelled installation twice, once the night before and the second time an hour before. After the second time, I told the company I was not interested in using their services as I could not keep rearranging my schedule for them to cancel at the last minute. The sales person I spoke with told me he would personally follow up and ensure that the installation would occur as scheduled and that I could cancel within 14 days of installation if not satisfied. He reached out to me twice in the lead up to the appointment to confirm the tech would arrive. On the day of the installation, we were informed 30 minutes before the 4 hour arrival ended that tech would arrive outside of the scheduled window. In the course of the installation, the tech drilled holes in our wall in a living area without permission and then snaked the cable up the wall and stapled it for one of the security camera. To make matters worse, the camera he installed did not work. He told my husband that the camera should come online in a day or two and reach out if there was an issue. The camera never came online. As instructed, I sent a text to the technician and received no response. After a day or two of waiting, I contacted Vivint and was told that I would be charged for a tech to come out to fix the problem. After having them verify the camera never worked, they agreed to send out a tech to fix the issue for no charge, but they could schedule me in a day or later (November 18). Due to work, I opted for later. The day before the "14 day trial" ended, I noted the doorbell did not ring except for outside of the house. This issue coupled with the nonfunctional camera, the terrible service, and shoddy installation made me decide to cancel. I called the company to cancel and was told after being on the phone with them for 47 minutes that they had no record of the "14 day trial" and the best resolution they could offer would be to place us on a standby list for a tech and provide 2 free months of service. The call abruptly was disconnected at that point. I tried calling back to confirm this would be done and could not get in contact with the person that provided this offer. I called again today, and was told no one could help me until Monday. I expect it will be another 47+ minute phone call with no resolution. Don't choose this company. We will be escalating this issue until they take back their defective equipment and repair my walls.

Salesman came in my neighborhood past…

Salesman came in my neighborhood past no solicitation signs, knocked on my door with a no solicitation sign on it. He tried to small talk me. I let him know to leave it was a no solicitation neighborhood. I will never do business with door to door companies that can’t read or just disregard peoples privacy. BTW in my state the solicitor could face charges for trespassing. Ironic for someone selling security.

This is definitely the worst scam act…

This is definitely the worst scam act I've ever seen and I've been around the block. First of all I was led to believe that the security system was a lease monthly agreement. There was never anything said about taking out a loan. The only thing said about that was when the salesman lied and said I made 45000 a year when I told him I was unemployed. Then I get a letter a few days later saying I owe Fortiva 4000 thousand dollars . I immediately started calling both of these scammers telling them to remove their junk off my house with no response. I took it off myself after a month . They are trying to say I still owe them . We'll see about that. Bottom line Vivint and Fortiva are crooks . DO NOT DO BUISINESS WITH THEM. They should be stopped from doing this to people

Customers will never be able to cancel bad service

I definitely, would’ve given a zero if I could. This company has been fraudulent and shady from the beginning of getting my equipment installed in 2019. The equipment is low quality and not dependable. it’s supposed to has been a nightmare. Ive been trying to cancel service for years. They went from $34 service fee to $64 without even notifying you. I’m unemployed and don’t have a job and I need to cancel the service and they refused to do it. I am forced to close out my bank account in order for them to stop taking my money. The sad part is they’ve never provided adequate service or equipment from the start. What does it take to cancel service anymore? I have small kids that need food but Vivint wont cancel my service. I dont know what to do to stop them from taking my money. How is this possible? Our country allowing this to happen is despicable.

No siren still & lies

Vivint will sell you the world but its a bunch of lies. I had Vivint for fours years till the contract ended. The wireless sensors for starters alway go offline.. No the battery is not dead. Have to reboot the panel once a week as to the issue. Todate still no siren by Vivint if the alarm trips you cannot hear it minus the panel making a faint beeping sound then someone talking. Do not fall for the Z-Wave technology as with Vivint nothing works more so the 3rd party sirens. Countless doorbell sellers by Vivint will always come by even when you have a Vivint sign posted. They will knock and you tell them when is the siren coming. Followed by in a few months we know its an issue and everyone tells us that.

Finally if you switch after the contract is up beware that Vivint likely messed up your wiring in the box so moving to another company is going to a be pain.

I moved to Ring as they have retro kit so I can retain wired sensors and a one hours job for the tech took 3 hours thanks to Vivint.

Vivint, A Thing Of The Past, Not an IoT (Internet of Things)

Based upon my experiences and observations as a 10+ year Vivint customer, Vivint is a thing of the past, not an IoT (Internet of Things).

Tired of being unable to log-in to Vivint apps for no reason, feeling ripped off by discrepancies between the physical hub controls and controls in the Smart Phone App, including being unable to establish recording zone areas in the smart app, being unable to download recorded video clips for police upon their request (I have the Vivint Sky Hub), I’ve been highly motivated to discover vastly superior security options, and they were easy to find. Doesn’t the inability to download recorded clips defeat the purpose of paying for Vivint and its self-praised NVR? Vivint has, however, informed me that I can rectify this problem by paying for a 3rd — yes, a third — Vivint hub since I’ve been a Vivint customer and the hubs are quite expensive. No spank you!!!

For what Vivint squeezed me for each month—in just 1 month’s bill—I can buy, always own and always use (for no additional cost) an IP camera NVR w/ 1TB, 2TB or 4TB of “internal storage” (no cloud service needed) from a popular Chinese online marketplace, where, still within the same one month’s bill, I can also buy compatible 4k, 6k or 8k/IP/WI-FI cameras w/ zooms exceeding Vivint’s (6x,8x and even up to 20x), some of which even have smart tracking features. And for what I pay Vivint “for protection” (no pun intended) in the following month’s, I could also add any number of smart hubs from another worldwide, online marketplace and connect all my existing, over-priced, Vivint-bought devices, and/or connect I’ve seen up to 200 wireless devices, while still have options for rule-based notifications, including SMS and recorded voice messages that can be sent to emergency services.

That saves me a lot in “protection payments” to Vivint, a company that, in my humble opinion, has ceased to offer anything competitive in today’s security market for years.

By the way, after calling and canceling my Vivint services, a Vivint rep, after trying multiple other tactics to change our minds, informed us that there would be a 1 month long delay in processing our cancellation request, and our cancellation request would not be
effective until we send an email or fax to addresses and numbers that, as we discovered the same day, were completely invalid. Does that sound ethical and on-the-up-and-up to you, or does it sound like the tactics of trench coated thugs associated with the oldest racket in antiquity? You decide.

Vivint does offer benefits for referring friends. So, I’m referring the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to Vivint.

We had a sales rep come to our door In…

We had a sales rep come to our door In a brand new neighborhood. He came in and said that Vivint was doing a buyout of our previous security system. He told us that they would install the system and submit the buyout form and that Vivint would send us a Visa Gift card to be able to call our previous company and pay the contract off. He said we had 60 days to claim the buyout of our contract but we had 72 hours to "test drive" the system. We went for it. The first issue was the he had the installer at our house at 9:30 at night. It took the installer until 3 in the morning to finish the install. I started looking into the buyout form 2 days later and learned that he lied to us. We had to pay off our previous company and submit the payment completion to Vivint for them to reimburse us. If I hadn't looked at the buyout form, I would have been stuck in both contracts and paying for both systems when I could have only used one. I submitted the cancellation to Vivint and the "reimbursement" they were going to give us wouldn't have even covered the cost of our contract with the other system. We scheduled the installer to come take the equipment from our home today. While he was here, he blew the chime box for the doorbell. He told us he submitted an email to the claims department. The claims department called us and told us that we had to pay out of pocket for an electrician to come out and fix it and then send them the invoice for them to send us a check for it whenever they could. They also left our panel for the previous system on the floor in front of the hole in the wall that they left. So not only do I have to call our previous company and pay a rollout fee for them to come fix what Vivint broke and left, but now I also have to pay for an electrician out of pocket to come fix the doorbell because precautions weren't taken when taking the system out. The entire process was super unprofessional. I shouldn't have had the installer in my home until 3 in the morning and the lies that the sales rep told us, even though I specifically asked him if we would have to pay our previous company first and he said no, are unprofessional business practice at the least. I will never use Vivint again and I am glad that I pay attention to contracts so that I wasn't stuck paying for both systems. I also will not recommend Vivint to anyone.

Great technician doing the install …

I shopped around quite a bit before deciding Vivint is the company I was going to use. The technician was very knowledgeable. Talked me out of using things. I did not need. He actually cut my bill in half. Did the job in four hours we have not had one false alarm, we paid for all our equipment upfront so we have a small bill every month just for monitoring so far so good. I read a lot of reviews and I really don’t understand what people are complaining about. This is not the first home we own nor the first alarm system, we had installed previous systems , a lot of false alarms I did not appreciate some of the people we spoke to over the phone or over the Internet so I wasn’t sure what I was going to do until the technician showed up. He was the key in me going with Vivint.

The sales rep lied to both my husband and myself. By the time we figured it out, we were locked in a long term contract. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE OR THIS COMPANY. I’ve never experienced deceit like this before. Save your money and your dignity. Because they will FULLY lie to you just to get a sale. They should be ashamed of themselves and that rep should have legal repercussions.

Dishonest deceitful company

Dishonest deceitful company. They pretended they had an arbritration department and even gave me a fake nonexistent email. They lied on so many occasions while verbally changing and misquoting the contract in order to get more money. For example, we paid over $3k for new product, but they tried to tell us we bought used and their fore no warranty. Tried to sell us a warranty which required us to reactivate our monitoring. Come to find out they never deactivated our service after requesting. 15+ times they told me a manager will call me, but they never do. Also, constantly bill us for installs, upgrades and services they offered for free. And then they will argue about it. I turned off autopay u til a manager calls me. They decided they could charge without my permission so I had to delete my card on our app. Unbelievably dishonest and crooked!

Vivint is Terrible! Extremely high pressure sales guy Jake…

Extremely high pressure sales guy Jake Roga. Lied about a 30 day money back guarantee. Filed complaint with Vivint Customer Service and they say there is nothing they can do because Jake their sales rep in our area is not returning their call??? who runs their company? Left an honest and accurate review under Jake and a few minutes later is was erased so wrote another one and it was deleted shortly after wrote a 3rd review and it was deleted and now we are blocked. This company is horrible and now we are told we cannot get out of the contract that we never actually signed for the tune of 2500 dollars not to mention the camera system is junk and is constantly not working or offline even though everything else in my house on the network is working fine. Absolutely terrible company to work with, extremely shady on the sales end and very poor. Jake Roga is an awful sales person using lies and deception to make a sale and his sales manager is no better. Been trying to get this removed from our house for 3 weeks now. Today was on the phone for 1 hour 47 minutes waiting to talk to a supervisor and finally go the response that I am next in line and the person answered and hung up. Absolutely terrible company.

You will never get off their list

You will never get off their call, text, email list if you give them your information.

They will not take no for an answer. The company will keep texting you, calling you, emailing you long after you hit STOP on your texts and tell them politely you are not interested twice.

When you say no, to the sales person, you get a call a few days later from someone else "just checking." When you say no to him, he says OK, and then the manager calls and asks for a follow-up call. When you do not reply to the follow-up call, you get automated texts and phone calls the next day.

Their sales model is to get your contact info, spend 20 minutes on the phone with you to ask you what you want without pricing or the ability to tell you what pricing is, to schedule a meeting in your home where you say yes or no on the spot. They don't give line-item pricing so you can make choices about which items you want, although the manager says they will. They just give you a big number, without the terms of the agreement or the lock-in, and ask you to say yes. Unbelievable.

The pricing is very high. Even if you remove devices, the monthly fee won't go down. My proposed capital cost was $1300 in upfront equipment for me for 2 doors, a smoke detector repeater, and a video doorbell. I was also asked to pay $58/month with a 3-year contract.

Their cameras never worked and you had to replace the batteries on all the monitors constantly. Don’t don’t don’t sign a contract with them because you’ll be sorry. Support the Consumer???

I wrote a review prior, but I guess it was taken down. I still have the information. Basically, this company would always break down whenever there was illegal entries. I got frustrated changed to another security system company. Everytime I talk to Vivint they said there was a glitch or they blamed my phone company, or my Internet service, it shouldn’t go down for any reason. My home had been entered and things gone about 15 times all because of harassment and they have not once told me who was on my property, if my cameras worked. Someone has placed an object in my sewer line and there are no photos of the activity. No beeps, no alarms, no whistles.

VIVINT is a company to stay away from! I tried there car feature that’s supposed to be security and car monitoring. That was over a month ago and it has never connected to my car. But they are charging me a monthly fee and the cost of the unit. I have called them 5 or 6 times and NEVER talked to anyone who would help. They are scammers and I will probably take them to court.

If we are allowed not to put star I will give Vivint 0 star. We have horrible experience with them, we discontinued and pay the remaining balance just to finished the 5year contract but they still continue charging us for the monthly payment. I called them many times tried to talked to the representative to cancel and they will send me to other rep and just hang up. So I canceled my credit card that they have on file so they can’t charge me again. What Vivint did was they send my name to the debt collector so I can pay the months I haven’t paid. Be careful with this company because they have very poor services. Think many times when you will call and have home security service with them.

Horrible experience with Vivint

My husband and I bought a home that had Vivint already installed. We contacted them to get details about their service and customer service recommended activating the service and cancelling within 2 weeks. The activation would prevent the prior owner's from having access to the system and we would receive all our money back with no issue. We called back in 10 days and was told it was a 2 day time frame for cancellation and we would not get our money back for the first month's service. Then, it took 2 HOURS to cancel the service. They needed to "check" with various departments to be sure we weren't behind on payments, didn't owe money on equipment, etc. If we disconnected before all the checks were done, they would continue to charge us. After 2 hours of complete frustration, and a significant amount of yelling on my part to "JUST CANCEL THE SERVICE, HOW HARD IS THIS?", they tried to get me to continue the service at a discounted price. Absolutely horrible. I would not recommend this company to anyone!
