Bought a Volla Phone Quintus 3 months ago and I am, so far, very much enjoying the phone.

The finish is great, and the user experience is as seamsless and straightforward as I would expect possible, while not being dependant on Google.

The Volla "Quintus" smartphone arrived with DHL from Germany, at my delivery address in the UK, less than 48 hours after ordering it. Volla did not charge me German VAT, then (post-Brexit) there was a predictable amount of UK duty to pay, on-line via DHL, smooth & no delay.
I am not personally a fan of "un-boxing", but the Volla Quintus experience was up there with the (currently) bigger players, with some European sophistication.
The phone worked straight away, both with my WiFi & with my UK SIM card. It is dual SIM.
I chose the Volla phone because it was designed from the bottom up to use an open source operating system (OS), either Android Open Source or Linux Ubuntu Touch, without the need to be tied to a user account, because this gives me autonomy & avoids all of the baggage & corralling that comes with the bigger players - who make fine & splendid products too.
I do not intend to review here the relative merits of the two Volla-installed OS's, compared with the bigger players, just to note that it was something of a leap of faith to spend about £700-£750 (flagship model & including shipping & UK duty),
based on my existing knowledge of (open source) Android + Linux ecosystems, & on the fact that Volla was reliably reported to have successfully completed crowdfunded development & had recently proceeded into production for the open market. I have previously "flashed" a Linux OS onto a normal smartphone, the result was too high-maintenance for my day job, so my preference was for a pure & mature open source OS phone, no bugs. There are other made-for-open-source phones out there, like pine64 "PinePhone", F(x)tec "Pro1X" or XFone Mobile "SageTea Edge", but currently for my money, the Volla product is really neat & polished, & Volla is probably quite accountable from being in Germany/Europe. History suggests that the inter-operability of Volla & its fellow travellers will in time allow users to benefit from an ecosystem with full untethered "efficiency of free markets", & of free-thinking, in terms of price + innovation + adaptability, compared with the more corralled markets of the (currently) bigger players.

Beware i purchased an x23 off of their website. Sales terms and conditions explicitly state all sales taxes and shipping included in final price at checkout. The courier demanded I pay over £100 extra before delivery was made as the seller had not paid shipping or taxes and declared reciever to pay on customs declaration for courier. I have had to contact paypal and my visas rovider to resolve as their customer service is so poor. AVOID.

A fantastic customized solution for connoisseurs and professionals! The haters are wrong to comment like that - there's absolutely no issue with the support level being somewhat limited, since the manufacturer is small and doesn’t have the luxury of government funding. You have to choose: do you want independence, or completely open data accessible to every intelligence agency and villain in the world?

BUYER BEWARE: Prior to making a purchase of their product, I have contacted them by the online form on their own webpage, as well as by direct email to sales(at)volla.online, info(at)volla.online and support(at)volla.online. Four emails along 25 days, with a simple question regrading the double-boot functionality of their VollaPhone 22. I have received no answer at all. If this is the kind of support and Customer Care they have to offer, I will definitely not be making the purchase, and the company is certainly doomed.
