Explained all the pros and cons of the routes depending on the weather.
Always had safety in mind and talked you through what is required when attached to ropes, and how to use the equipment properly.
Picked up some useful tips which I now incorparte into my own outings.
Overall a superb four days.
Cuillin Munro bagging extravaganza
I just had one of the most amazing experiences taking in 11 Munro summits in the Skye Cuillins with Mehmet (our guide). In a group of three, with Mehmet leading, it was what felt like a highly personalised and successful four days out on these technically-demanding hills, including some difficult roped scrambles and the ascent of the In Pinn, and abseils.
Importantly, a group video call prior to departing for Skye was super useful for ensuring we were all as prepared as could be for this challenge.
Mehmet is also the most friendly and approachable guide one could hope to meet. Not only this, he is a font of knowledge on all sorts of topics from mountain flora to, as well as an array of interesting non-mountain related topics! The conversation flowed making the days seem short. Perhaps too short - it's a testament to the experience that the week whistled by in a blur, although in reality I think we were out for something like ten hours a day on average! It's also worth adding that Mehmet helped engender a fantastic vibe amongst our little group of three, none of whom had met before.
At all times I felt completely reassured by Mehmet's meticulous attention to detail, and knowledge of the mountains and weather, especially making contingency plans in what was not the ideal week in terms of rain and potential thunder. Also, at no point did I feel any question or mistake made by me were too silly (and I'm sure a number were!).
Already thinking about my next experience to build upon this epic :-)
Now, if only Mehmet could also control the weather....

THE way to "do" the Black Cuillin Munros.
Jun 2023 • Solo
This is the way to "Do" the Cuillin Munros, what a fantastic experience, Julie my guide for the four days was outstanding, great company, totally confident & competent, I approached the experience with more than a little trepidation, never having done any technical rock climbing & not much scrambling, (certainly not at Cuillin level!) but I needn't have worried, Julie saw me through it all regardless of what the mountains or the weather could throw at us.
One of the best times I have had in the hills, I cannot say thank you enough.

An Incredible Day on the Ring of Steall
My experience with West Coast Mountain Guides was on The Ring of Steall. My favorite part of the day was the adventure itself. This was added to by Mehmet whose knowledge of not just climbing but also geology and flora was brilliant. It really added to the connection with the mountains and seeing how beautiful they are.

Top class guiding company
I had two days, one on Liathach, where we had bad weather, but managed to do the path around the pinnacles and one day on Aonach Dubh doing several classic rock climbs. Both instructors were excellent, made me feel safe and were good company.
Organisation is also very good. WCMG are my go to company for guiding in Scotland and I have always had a good time.

The three of us went on a day hike in the Cuillins with Neil. Neil was very friendly and knowledgeable. Despite extremely windy conditions at times, we always felt safe. Amazing day out and would highly recommend West Coast Mountains!

Aonach Mor - a beatiful ridge in the snow and ice
Friendly and informative training in Axe and Crampon techniques. Mark is a huge font of knowledge both winter skills but also Scottish history and mountain knowledge. Scaling Aonach More was a very rewarding (if tiring day ) great fun and can't wait to do more.

It was an awesome two days with Simon
It was an awesome two days with Simon. We did Curved Ridge on Tuesday and Right Twin on Wednesday. I first did Curved Ridge in Feb 2006 on an Alan Kimber weekend. On that trip it was more wintry but not by so much. Many time I have thought about repeating it as a rock climb so in that respect it was perfect even though it should have been under snow and ice again. Likewise with Aonach Mor East Face, for a good number of years I have aspired to climb a route on it. More than once I have been on the west face but due to avalanche potential never made the east side until this week. Simon was excellent on both days and we had good banter going on both days. On the first day especially we discovered both of us had studied chemistry at Uni so good discussion on that was had as we climbed. Also the other teams following us made for a good time too with Scott Kirkhope and his clients just behind us on Curved Ridge. So very sociable.
On Wednesday we abseiled down Left Twin alongside Neil and his clients and also Luca and others whose names I didn't quite get but I think Simon mentioned Ali Rose as one of them. Simon was very patient with me fumbling the abseils in my winter gloves, making what in summer would be an easy task into crossing ropes and twisting ropes and belays upside down. Not sure what he must have though of me after that and I felt quite irritated for messing it up. Simon dropped one of his hexes down a slot but between us we retrieved it ok with the use of an axe. Then in bright sunshine and blue sky we ascended Right Twin with no ice at the start where there should have been so that was interesting and the rest was more as you might expect but only Simon would really know if that was the case. With my limited experience I guess I was none the wiser. But it was great fun climbing even if my calves were burning. To finish we had a nice cornice to get over and then a descent in the mist again back to the gondola followed by tea and cakes again in the cafe at Nevis Range.
So, yes it was a fantastic two days especially after four years since my last trip with WCMG. I think I can safely say I will be back for more before my ageing body says it can't do it anymore.
Thank you again for a great trip and please can you let Simon now how much I appreciated his time, expert guidance and great company.
See you again,
Jon.

Outstanding Winter Mountaineering Course
Enjoyed a hugely rewarding Winter Mountaineering Course with West Coast Mountain Guides. Sam was an excellent instructor whose decades of experience shone through. He kept us informed, entertained and safe every step of the way. New skills and routes were taught every day, even when weather conditions were unfavourable. I strongly recommend this company and won’t hesitate to book with them again.

The best instructor I've had the pleasure of learning from
Alex is genuinely the best instructor I've had the pleasure of learning from. I wasn't sure what to expect from the 5 days, but would have been happy coming away from it feeling I'd learnt something and having ticked off a few routes. I ended up having the most enjoyable and educational experience I've had since getting back into climbing. I feel Alex perfectly balanced getting us up the routes for time/enjoyments sake with teaching and progressively allowing us to make our own decisions - something I can imagine is a very difficult thing to get right in such an environment.
I cannot recommend Alex and West Coast Mountain Guides enough. Just get your cardio up for the walk ins and walk outs, they can be a bit harsh.

5 day intro to winter climbing
I completed the 5 day intro to winter climbing course with west coast mountain guides
Our guide Alex Kay did a great job, he tailored each day to suit the groups aims and we learnt a lot in the short space of time whilst still keeping it really enjoyable.
I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's thinking about it, just get it booked in, you won't regret it!
Great day out on Aonach Eagach
Great day out on Aonach Eagach, which I have wanted to do for years! Dave was very experienced, knowledgable and friendly and his guidance allowed me to thoroughly enjoy the day. Would thoroughly recommend and I will be back for some more adventures on my next winter visit to Scotland!
Curved Ridge with West Coast Mountain Guides…
Contacted West Coast Highland Guides from Canada, got great help with my many questions from Sonia-nothing appeared to much trouble, on the day of hike, met their guide “Josh” and from start to finish we had a dream day, not only his climbing and coaching ability, but a real friendly guy. I would not of tried Curved Ridge without his knowledge, cannot thank Josh, Sonia & the team enough,
Thanks

Day in the Cuillins
We went for a day of walking, scrambling and bagged our first Munro. Our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable.
Cuillin in 4 days - unforgettable ♥️
Just climbed all 11 Skye Cuillin Munro’s over 4 days with our fantastic guide Mehmet. It was a truly unforgettable experience having previously only tackled grade 2 scrambling! Mehmet was extremely professional and also great company. We learned so much about the Cuillin themselves and how to move confidently around them; we always felt 100% safe. My technique vastly improved as a direct result of his coaching and I am now looking forward to building on this with more climbing. Great communication from West Coast Mountain Guides in advance of the trip and would highly recommend them.
