Cuillin Ridge Traverse

What an amazing experience. A real challenge to your fitness and head for heights, but so worth it. We pushed on hard on the first day and so had a shorter second day, and this split worked well for us. Our guide, Ali, was superb. Calm, knowledgeable and experienced, he made us feel safe during all the tricky scrambles, abseils and exposed sections, and well looked after at the bivouac site. He was easy to talk to and generally great company. I highly recommend him and WCMG (who were always professional and quick to respond to queries) to anyone thinking of doing the ridge. Key recommendation otherwise would be to pack light...follow the suggested kit list and no more! The footwear section of the list may need updating though...we did the traverse in good quality approach shoes ( not the B1 rated boots the list stipulates) after checking this was ok with WCMG.

Thank you West Coast Mountain Guides

Thank you West Coast Mountain Guides - Mehmet was great! Not just guiding the route bit also critiqued my walking technique and provided lots of geological, botanic and meteorological info.

Got so much more out of the day than I expected.

Thank You

We wanted to write to thank you for organising for Sam Percival to be our guide in the Cuillin this week. We had the most fantastic time with him.

As complete climbing beginners, he taught us from scratch and enabled us to do things we never thought would be possible. His clear technical ability made us feel safe at all times.

He added to the experience by being extremely good company. He taught us a lot about the history of climbing in the Cuillin, the social history of Skye and lots of interesting Gaelic. We have come home inspired to find out even more.

Above all his manner was encouraging and supportive at every stage.

We really could not have asked for more in a mountain guide and we feel very lucky to have met him, and to have been guided by him. We would definitely recommend him to our friends.

Thank you for arranging this for us

Safe and confident traversing

I’ve been out for two trips now with Dave - first along the Aonach Eagach and a second along a greater traverse of the Cuillins. The whole time Dave made me feel safe and confident taking on the scrambles and climbs of these ridges. He clearly knows the mountains like the back of his hand and was a total joy to spend time with as well. I’ll definitely be getting back in touch for more outings 🤙🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Greater Cuillin Traverse, Skye, 19th - 21st June 2022

I had the pleasure of Dave Fowler as a guide on the Greater Cuillin Traverse on Skye, 19th - 21st June 2022.
I am 82 and am doing all the munros for charity, and though I am an experienced mountaineer I recognised that the Cuillins require an extra level of skill and experience.
Dave was excellent in so many ways: his knowledge of the mountains, his professionalism and technical ability, the care he took of me, recognising my wishes and needs, and probably most important of all, his ability to inspire confidence.
He provided me an unforgettable experience which will remain with me for the rest of my life.

A weekend to remember in Glencoe.

Myself and 3 others booked WCMG’s to take us along the Aonach Eagach ridge and then up curved ridge the following day. We have met Dave Fowler & Jack Morris before as we used them to complete all the Munro’s on Skye last year.
We had a sensational couple of days in Glencoe with the weather being spectacular on AE ridge. Dave and Jack are cracking blokes and consummate professionals making our trip 100% safe and great fun. If you are ever looking for guides choose WCMG……it will be the easiest decision you will ever make. We cannot rate them highly enough and look forward to Torridon next year. Thanks for the memories guys.

Guided Ascent of In Pinn

Karl guided four of us up In Pinn on Skye on a fabulously sunny June day. Great day from start to finish. There were a few nerves at the bottom of the roped climb but Karl was great, got us all up (and down) in one piece! One of the best days any of us have ever had up in the hills.

Cuillen Ridge

West Coast Guides provided me with an absolutely unforgettable experience in the Cuillen mountains on Skye, I was told off a very experienced ML that if he were to do the ridge he'd hire a guide, so I didn't hesitate to do so, the weather and visability were poor but my guide Josh was amazing, exceptionally well qualified and experienced, doing these hikes was quite literally all in a days work, crossing what used to be streams but were now rivers, we crossed them in a heart beat, he gave me the confidence to climb and abseil in horrible conditions whilst constantly evaluating our safety.
Overall I found West Coast to be outstanding and slick 👌

Aonach Eagach Adventure

A quick note to thank WCMG for the superb service.

From booking through to the actual Aonach Eagach traverse, simply excellent.

Our guide David Whiteley was brilliant. His knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm made the day so enjoyable, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend WCMG. Above all myself and Gary aka “Rocket” had a laugh.

A day that will live long in the memory.

Next stop the Cuillin. Will be in touch towards the end of the year.

Climbing on The Slime Wall

I climbed the route 'Bludgers Revelation' on the famous Slime Wall of Buachaille Etive Mor in Glencoe, which is very rarely dry. This was a gamble on the weather outlook which paid off completely. I was led up the route by Sam and Jack who were brilliant company as well as utterly competent. It was like going climbing with your mates. I have been climbing for 46 years and the Slime Wall experience is up there with with the very best. I contacted West Coast on Tuesday and everything was organised in about 24hours, so grabbing a rare prize at short notice is possible.
