Here at WGU, we believe that talent is universal—even if opportunity isn't. Higher education is the best way to bridge that gap, but traditional higher ed wasn't built for the realities facing many of today's students. So we created a university focused on expanding access to education around the country. We've innovated with students in mind, giving them the flexibility and freedom they need to succeed in today's workplace.

WGU’s competency-based, accelerated learning style made it possible to obtain my master’s degree as a full-time employee, wife, and mother. WGU’s professors and mentors are also eager to help when questions arise. I would recommend WGU to everyone.

I am a single mother with a full time job. My daugher is involved in extracurriculars so we stay busy. I was able to complete my program at my own pace and I made my own schedule with class work. All faculty at WGU were super helpful with any questions no matter how big or small. I recieved a scholarship that gave me a laptop and a hotspot so I could complete classwork at any time and anywhere and that was pivotal to my success. WGU helped me achieve my dreams and I couldn't be anymore grateful. I would reccomend WGU to anyone looking to further their education.

Enrolling at WGU was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. As a working mom and a first-generation college student, I needed flexibility, support, and a program that respected my time and goals. WGU provided all of that.
The competency-based model let me move at my own pace, and my program mentor was there to guide and encourage me through every step. The courses were relevant and challenging, and I felt prepared for real situations in the field.
WGU made me feel seen. The graduation weekend was an experience I’ll never forget. Everything was well-organized and heartfelt, and the staff genuinely celebrated each graduate. It meant so much to finally walk the stage after thinking for years that earning a degree was out of reach.
If you’ve been thinking about going back to school, but life keeps getting in the way, WGU is a real option. It’s flexible, affordable, and designed for people with full lives and big goals. I'm looking to completing my master's degree next.
Thank you, WGU. I’m proud to be a Night Owl.

It was very convenient to earn my degree on my time and at my pace. The only downside i experienced was lack of clear communication of who to contact and when

My experience getting my Computer Science BS with WGU was great! I thought it was challenging but fair, and the material taught had a good mix of theoretical foundations and modern tools. I also appreciate the schools’s accreditation, non-profit status, and the BSCS program’s recent ABET accreditation.

WGU made getting a master's degree possible for me. Though I am a teacher, wife, and mother of two active boys, I was able to complete my degree on my own timeline. I could work at my pace and still fit in family events and activities. I was able to finish my degree in two 6-month semesters. WGU's flat-rate tuition also made my degree affordable. I would recommend WGU to anyone with a busy lifestyle who is looking to further their education!

It was so well organized and efficient. My family also commented on how organized it was. Loved that the ceremony was not super long and got graduates through quickly

WGU have been a nightmare when it comes to the assessments! You wait for hours for a proctor to only be told you need to reschedule since one is not available. In addition that counts towards one of your attempts. This is an absolute joke! Seems like they need to come up with a better system. Since these complaints are quite frequent. For this reason alone I would not recommend this school. Sadly, it creates so much unnecessary stress on the student. THE WORST EXPERIENCE!!!!

My experience with WGU and WGU Academy has been extremely disappointing due to a lack of transparency, poor communication, and multiple technical and administrative failures.
Before I was even enrolled, I encountered a major technical issue submitting transcripts on their site, which turned out to be unnecessary for the single course I wanted through WGU Academy. This wasn’t communicated anywhere during the enrollment process. I had to escalate through phone calls and Service Desk tickets just to find this out, wasting time on a process that should have been intuitive and clear.
Eventually, I chose the IT and Tech Fundamentals course. I was assisted by an enrollment counselor who walked me through the payment process. At no point was I told that this course was currently non-functional due to a known technical issue (referred to as a WhiteLabel error). The website also allowed me to proceed with payment without any warning. Only after completing payment and attempting to start the course did I discover it wasn’t accessible at all.
Following this, I contacted support and was informed that they were aware of the issue and couldn’t guarantee when it would be resolved. I requested a refund, which I was told had been processed on 5/20/25 and would take 5 -10 business days. After that period passed with no refund, I called again and had to reverify my identity multiple times across departments. Eventually, I was told my refund hadn’t actually been processed properly, and that a new refund was issued on 6/3/25 - meaning I might wait nearly a full month for a refund that should’ve been straightforward.
The entire experience has been a frustrating waste of time, riddled with technical errors, poor internal communication, and avoidable confusion between WGU and WGU Academy. I hope this review helps others avoid the same issues.

My time with WGU was amazing! From the enrollment counselor to my mentor to each and every professor, the support was amazing! I loved being able to work at my own pace, completing 4 years of course work in one year! The price is very affordable, especially when you can complete more than the minimum term requirement!
I will be returning to WGU for my masters degree.

I thought I would never graduate. I started college 25+ years ago and quit every time I got pregnant. I had a lot of experience after my kids grew up, but I was being looked over because I didn't have a degree. I started in the summer of 2023 and just finished my bachelor's degree in May of 2025. I love that it is competency-based and at your own speed.

If I was struggling with a course, it was easy to get in touch with the instructor and my mentor to help improve my understanding of the subject. My program mentor was especially helpful in cheering me on even when it was for the written assessments.

This school is a JOKE! They, apparently, offer "course bundles" that claim to count as credits towards your degree after submitting your application to enroll. What they fail to mention is that you are not able to continue enrolling until these "courses" are completed. They have pushed my start date back countless times due to my transcript that stated it had already been processed for weeks. They did not mention to me they needed the transcript from the course in order to enroll until well after the transcript deadline. These courses are paid for out of your own pocket and claim to be reimbursed after starting. They advertise these courses as an "add-on" to your regular courses when all they are trying to do is fork all the money out of your pocket. When you attempt to contact them about it, they tell you they are "requirements" that need to be completed before starting. I have screenshots of the course stating MULTIPLE times that these courses are RECOMMENDATIONS--not requirements! Also, nowhere on the course intro does it state they NEED to be completed before enrollment can begin! New students just beware! This school only wants your money and does not care about anything else! They better start editing their "fine print" before they have a false advertising claim on their hands. Research other online schools. There are plenty out there that are way better than this. WGU does not deserve your hard earned money, especially in this economy!

I graduated with two degrees within one year. You are able to go at your own pace, and believe me, I did. I found the staff supportive and the self-guided structure and price point was a perfect fit for me. It certainly helped that my employer reimbursed the cost of tuition and books. My education, sans transfer credits, was almost totally free! It's not for everyone, but it was ideal for me as a mature adult learner with a full-time career. It's wonderful to check that life box and have the diploma that supports the knowledge and experience I have.

WGU provided me with all of the necessary materials and I was able to complete on my own terms. I can honestly say I believe this is the best school for individuals who are driven and value their time. WGU provides unbelievable student support across several areas. I tell everyone to attend WGU!

I enjoyed how easy it was to apply and to get started. The Program Mentors are great at helping students understand what is next or aiding in any way. The instructors are a great resource, and I loved that I could go at my own pace.
