Do not rent a car from Wheego
I booked a car rental with Wisecar for December 23, 2025.
I was required to pay $72 at the time of the booking and the rest to the rental company on arrival. The contract stated that my booking included: Unlimited Mileage and Third-Party Liability Insurance.
When I showed up at the rental car company with the Voucher, the Company Wheego on the voucher/Car Rental & Tolls Florida on the credit card receipt, stated liability insurance was not included. They would not accept my insurance company card, and wanted to charge me $49.99 a day for liability insurance. Their price to rent the car was more than doubled what was listed on the voucher.
Don’t use it. - Worst car rental company I have ever…
Worst car rental company I have ever used
Staff so rude specially manager
They declined my credit card believed it’s virtual but it’s not capital
One it’s not virtual card
Avoid this company at all costs
My experience with Wheego was one of the most stressful and appalling customer service encounters I have ever had.
I paid £50 for an out-of-hours return in the early hours of the morning, which explicitly included staff attendance and a shuttle to the airport. Nobody showed up. There was no one to receive the car, no shuttle, and no contact from the company. I was left stranded with my 6-year-old daughter, in the middle of the night, not knowing how we were supposed to get to the airport.
This caused extreme panic and distress, and my daughter was understandably very upset. We were only saved by the kindness of a complete stranger who happened to be on site and drove us to the airport. Had that not happened, I genuinely don’t know what we would have done.
Despite this serious failure on their part, Wheego never acknowledged that they failed to show up, and I never received an apology or explanation.
To make matters worse, I was later charged for vehicle damage that I am confident I did not cause. I sent photographic evidence disputing the charges. My email was simply ignored. There was no investigation, no response, and no accountability.
Attempting to speak to anyone senior is nearly impossible. When I did manage to speak to someone who appeared to be a manager — Anjam Malik — he was rude, dismissive, avoided speaking to me, and on several occasions hung up the phone. Communication was extremely difficult, and basic professionalism was completely absent.
This company operates in a way that feels designed to extract money after the rental ends, particularly through questionable damage claims. It is also worth noting — and this is critical — many excess insurance providers do NOT cover Wheego. Anyone booking should check their policy very carefully before renting, because if they decide to charge you, you may be completely unprotected.
Based on my experience, this company appears to have a well-established pattern of poor service, avoidance, and post-rental charges. I strongly urge anyone considering Wheego to read reviews carefully and choose a reputable alternative.
I will never use this company again.
Avoid this scam company
Booked through Discover Cars comparison site so thought this would be a reputable company and didn’t read previous reviews or wouldn’t have booked.
Landed at Liverpool airport, walked to the pick up point which is outside the airport at end of a car park. Friendly guy picked us up and drove 5 minutes to office to do paperwork.
Gave licence and credit card in drivers name to be told they could not accept as it just had his initial not full first name, ex J Bloggs rather than Joe Bloggs. He said that card could belong to Julie Bloggs so I suggested ringing Barclaycard and doing security and they could confirm was partners card after speaking to him. He said no couldn’t do that but we could take out comprehensive insurance at an extra £200 which would allow us to take car that we had already paid for.
We Said no and that we had already took out additional comprehensive insurance through a stand alone company and he said that would not work in this situation.
We said forget it and we would go back to airport and hire from somewhere else, he then said he would give us an nhs discount even though none of us works for nhs and could do it for an extra £100 instead and that we would lose the initial payment we made anyway if we went somewhere else.
At this point we had flown from Belfast to Liverpool, driven away from the airport and had to get to a special family occasion in wales so we were stranded and under duress paid this fee.
We were to return the car by 8pm n the Sunday and he said they closed at 6pm so if we were not here by 6 to drop key in drop box. He said if we dropped it back before 6 they would drop us back to airport.
We left our family occasion early to make sure we would be there before closure to get lift back to airport and ensure no other issues with this company. We rang them at 3pm and several times after this with no answer. We arrived at 5:45 pm and nobody was there so we had to then get an Uber back to airport.
Reading other reviews after the fact we were made aware this is a scam they use regularly with Barclaycard users. This was also the same card that we booked and paid with originally so if there was an issue with just the first initial we should have been told that then.
Will never use this company again even if it was cheaper as it ended up costing us more in the long run and a disappointing start to what should have been a nice trip.
DO NOT book with this company
DO NOT book with this company. Used them in Alicante 31 December 2025. They wanted addition money for insurance ( not negotiable) and wouldn’t accept a credit card. Ended up paying €170 extra on a debit card.
Car was dented, scuffed and not in good condition.
Their attitude was “you don’t need to take the car. Good luck finding something else on New Years eve”
Shocking behaviour!!!
Wheego Bimingham Airport
Rented a car via VIP Cars from Wheego Birmingham Airport. It was advertised as Meet and Greet. Actual procedure was: Take train to train station, wait >10min at bus stop, driver gets taken to run down business park while family has to stay behind. Wait for almost 1 hour to get car. Drive with rented car to train station to get family. Total time almost 2 hours. When giving feedback that this is not "meet&Greet" the supplier threatend to revoke contract. Supplier forced us to upgrade, as he said our luggage was too large for boot, although it would have fit a Golf Wagon, but the car supplied was not a Golf Wagon. Car supplied was dirty, when returned in same state the supplier charged an extra 70 pounds "valeting fee" as we should have cleaned it before returning. Never had a worse car rental experience.
Wheego and CarJet scam
We booked through CarJet and Wheego are their car provider at Manchester Airport. The CarJet website was very difficult to navigate and it was difficult to save the collection and drop off times. I did eventually complete the booking. On collecting the car I found that the times had reverted back to 10.30 so we were late. Wheego had already rerented our car within 2.5 hours and kept our money. They had not even attempted to contact us. We were told by their Wheego that there could be no refund and we had to take a car from them at 2.5 times the price or walk back through the airport to find another car company. This must be against the law.
Avoid at all cost
I do not recommend using this company at all. Avoid at all cost as they pretty much scam you to rent a car at a higher insurance level than first anticipated. I hire a car through kayak.com and then got diverted to Economybookings.com.
The overall price with full insurance was 200 PLN for three days what turned into 900 PLN upon pickup as my credit card could not be accepted due to lack full name on credit card and the personal details being on the back of the back. Oh, another reason they mentioned was that letters were just printed on the card and not engraved ...
I've rented cars across many other companies / countries. Absolute shambles and horrible process for something that's meant to make your holiday easier and comfortable.
Avoid at all cost.
AVOID This company at all costs
AVOID This company at all costs. Malaga office tried to charge me €50 for late arrival even though they ceased shuttle buses an hour before closing. They also tried to charge me €250 for extra insurance because their CDW insurance does not cover 3rd party. BEWARE of this insurance as an accident could turn into your worst nightmare. Stick with the larger well known companies. These are SHOCKING
Legal action needed against Wheego. Ibrahim) based at the…
Wheego car hire (Ibrahim) based at the Clayton Hotel Manchester airport…. Never use this company!!! They are openly operating a scam. My wife and I collected a car on 8/12/25 and they insisted on taking a £500 deposit because we don’t operate a credit card they said it would need to come off our debit card (to be returned). We returned the car ten days later to be told we could not have our deposit back. They claim we agreed to buying a “special package” which we did not agree to, we are both there as witnesses and they had one guy. They have ripped us off at least until we go legal on them. Contact me on trust pilot to get a group action against this scam of a company. I hope trust pilot can help us here. Mr & Mrs Burke
Right where do I start?!?
Right where do I start?!?
Rented a car for a week from them pick up at the Clayton hotel.
Handed my Barclaycard visa over to get the insurance excess held in case of damage. Would you like to take a smaller amount off your debit card- £398
Yes sure thinking it was not a different insurance policy I was taking out just to cover theft which I already had minus a big excess.
After several phone calls I’m now faced with disputing through my bank. The pad they use when you sign for this is tiny so was unable to see the terms and what I was signing even with prescription glasses on.
Now these guys aren’t like the Italian rental mob these guys are nicely nicely your best mates, no pressure sales.
So a car that was costing under a £100 got another £398 deducted for this back door scam. I asked if they had cctv in the office as you can clearly see my Barclaycard visa being handed over before this. No sir we don’t.
Thing is my wife who doesn’t have a credit card is hiring right now and they’ve done the credit card thing but only charged her £216. See there’s no paper trail as it’s all done by conversation in person and over the phone so I doubt my bank will help.
Would not touch with a barge pole
Con men
After being collected by the staff of the Clayton Hotel Manchester to collect my hire car I was greeted by a friendly polite young man, who went on to fleece me without my knowledge., he sked if I preferred automatic to which I said I did but would not pay the price he said call us direct would be cheaper price he then asked for an automatic to be brought round to the front, I said is that a free upgrade, he laughed. The car was dirty but acceptable after taking picture's of the already marked wheel and bumper. On my return I dropped off the car no problem. Them BAM we get the invoice 0ver 900 pounds sterling, I called to question the price, they gave me a luxury package without my knowledge. and I add didn't need. I have written to Clayton Hotel who have said they will watch them lol, I also wrote to the Wheego in German NOTHING Don't take their friendly smiles as genuine they are corrupt.
Do not rent a car from this company
I would strongly advise against renting from Wheego. My mother and I recently rented a car from them during our summer vacation in Alicante, and the experience was extremely disappointing.
First, the airport shuttle was over 30 minutes late, and we had to call them to get it moving. When we finally got our first rental car, it already had issues: the tire pressure warning was on, there were some dents, and minor damage to the rims. We requested a replacement car so we could continue our trip without problems, which was a complicated process.
The real problems appeared at the end of our rental. The staff at the return location seemed determined to find any damage they could charge us for. They claimed a small scratch and even a crack near the trunk, which was impossible for us to have caused. We were shocked to receive a repair bill of about 1000€, even though we had only deposited a €900 security deposit. The bill was written in Polish, making it very hard to understand.
We have not paid this bill and are pursuing a chargeback, which I highly recommend if you ever rent from them. Overall, Wheego is an unreliable and dishonest company. Their cars are often damaged, the service is unprofessional, and they seem to try to exploit customers for extra charges. Avoid this company if you want a stress-free car rental experience.
They need to be shut down
They need to be shut down
as a car rental company. I am on a french driving licence . Issued as all are on my maiden name, credit card in married name which they would not accept.as fair Steve said. they wanted to charge me £350 extra insurance even tho I had my own thro my broker. Car jet. I could prove my id with my residence permit in France with both names obvious, this was not accepted. Eventually the amount they wanted was reduced to £175 as I was leaving. I had no option but to pay as it was 7,30pm on a Friday evening and I had to get to my sister's. I was humiliated and upset. I will never use them again. I advise all to avoid them like the plague. Out and out scammers of the worst type.
Took £360 from my credit card with no…
Took £360 from my credit card with no communication for a £2.40 unpaid toll charge! Apparently the extra was ADMIN FEES.. Left me and my daughter to get back to the airport at 8am in the freezing cold morning, upon dropping off the car! Will never use again!
I would not recommend renting a car…
I would not recommend renting a car from WHEEGO based on my recent experience. The vehicle I received had numerous scratches and damage, but because I collected it in winter while it was completely frozen over, it was impossible to see the existing marks clearly during pickup. When I returned the car, staff claimed that I had caused the minimal scratches and charged me additional fees.
I’ve rented cars many times before with no issues, so this situation was very frustrating and surprising. In my case, I felt that my concerns weren’t taken seriously at the counter, and I ended up being charged for damage I believe was already there.
Because of this experience, I personally would not rent from WHEEGO again and would advise others to be extremely careful and document everything thoroughly if they choose to use this company.
Insurance upselling scam
Similar to Adz review. Paid for 3days hire at Manchester Airport (Wheego, located in Carlton Hotel).
My credit card was well in date, but only my Initial rather than my full first name was on the card (plus surname) ie. J Bloggs rather than John Bloggs, and the card was refused as a deposit holder for that reason alone. They showed me 3 pages of terms which were displayed in the office, mentioning this.
The cost would be £288, for the insurance that I didn't need, apparently as a way of guaranteeing the damage deposit or some such. I said no thanks I won't bother with the hire, at which point I was told I could take the car ( I had declined all insurance, bar legal minimim), if I paid for a family bundle £50+Vat, which allowed sat nav, a child seat & an additional driver ,- none of which I required or indeed received.
I objected to this, but being stuck there, I accepted this under protest, knowing that I would later challenge this with Citizens Advice, Insurance Ombudsmen,& Car hire leasers orgsnisation.
The family package was just a con to rip money of me instead of providing the insurance they promised, but which I had declined.
I returned the car with no damage which they accepted, though I didn't get that on paper.
Have you ever checked your credit card for full name? I've been with Barclaycard for 50 years & rented a lot of cars UK & abroad, but this is first time I've come across this particular scam.
The staff were efficient ,helpful & friendly enough, but I guess they're on bonuses for upselling.
I hired a car via Discovercars.com
I hired a car via Discovercars.com, as the agent, when i arrived in Frankfurt to collect the hire car, i was unable to find the desk for Wheego, no signage nothing, i asked a few staff, then one told me it was down the hall, after searching for it, i found it opposite Mc Donalds, The staff were not very helpful, i booked a Skoda Octavia, they offer me a smaller car, which i refused, then when on to charge me extra for the car i booked, very discusting, then took a €900 euro deposit, and only refunded €885 with no explaination of why, When i went to look for the car, it was not in the location i was advised, no staff in the parking lot to help, i walk around pressing the remote to see if i could find it, then go it. tried to connect my iphone to the car, and it was disabled, great start, please do not hire from here.
DO NOT use this company (total scam)
I would strongly advise nobody to use this company.
I booked my rental online for £38, but when I arrived I was suddenly told I had to pay an additional £350. No warning. No explanation that made any sense. Just a flat demand for more money.
When I told the man that was obscene, he laughed and said ‘good luck finding another car rental’.
After standing my ground and making it very clear this wasn’t happening, they “magically” reduced it to just over £100. That alone tells you everything you need to know.
When I was finally taken to the car, every alloy wheel was already scuffed and scratched. I insisted on filming the condition of the vehicle before driving off. Good job I did.
On return, surprise surprise, they tried to claim I’d caused new damage to the alloys. I showed them my video on the spot and the accusation immediately evaporated. No apology. No acknowledgement. Just the next customer in line.
This experience felt deliberately misleading from start to finish. Hidden charges, pressure tactics, and then an attempted damage claim on return. Make of that what you will.
Read the other reviews. You’ll spot a pattern very quickly.
Avoid this company unless you enjoy stress, disputes, and feeling like you need to constantly watch your back.
