No interest in the safety of guests

My family and I stayed in the two City Apartments in Cologne side by side for a family wedding. We encountered an awful experience returning home on the second evening, when a) a drunk tenant was shouting racial abuse at us from the window and b) when we entered, the stairs to our apartment were blocked by another tenant who was clearly disturbed and threatening my husband.

When I got in the way to diffuse the situation I too was threatened with sexual violence. My young son was present.

Once we got into our apartment shouting and noise continued until presumably the men passed out. During the rest of our visit we were scared when having to pass the apartment door on the way to ours in case the man came out to threaten us again.

I took up the matter with the landlord who recommended I take this up with the police. I was not able to at that time because of the family wedding. I did however give him all the details so that he could start the process but he did not assist us in any way to make it easier. He also wrote in an email that he was aware that the tenant below was selling drugs from the property. Wimdu were not at all interested in the fact that this property has security issues and were not interested in looking into this further.

I would warn any guests from using Wimdu as they clearly do not care about the safety of guests.

Easy and safe

Easy and safe to book apartment via Wimdu. On my first attempt, the apatment was already booked, and I was noticed of this quickly, and payment not completed. On my second attempt, the booking went through, and the host made responded quickly and gave excellent service. I´m very satisfied.

Stay away from this home sharing platform! Go elsewhere!!!

Please stay away from this home sharing platform, especially if you are a host. As a former Wimdu host, I stopped hosting on the Wimdu platform after we could no longer tolerate the following:
1. Lack of transparency with fees. The amount provided to hosts is never what was noted in your invoice. There are hidden fees that were never disclosed.
2. Lack of representation for hosts. False claims and complaints made by guests will result in immediate monetary fine for hosts. There is no opportunity for hosts to repeal false statements made by guests.
3. Lack of support for hosts. Guests that break house rules or even the federal local laws will not receive any penalty from Wimdu. (Unlike hosts where fines are immediately enforced, please refer to #2) It is up to the hosts to ensure guests follow the rules.

Overall, the company is unethical and unprofessional. You’ll lose money, time and energy, and most of all a pleasant night sleep after dealing with them. Save yourself the unnecessary stress and aggravation and go somewhere else!!!

We had such a wonderful stay at Nik's …

We had such a wonderful stay at Nik's apartment. He was so hospitable and kind. He made everything very easy with the check in, and was even able to find us parking at a reasonable rate. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, quiet, and within walking distance to everything. Bologna is such a beautiful and interesting city, and all the locals are so welcoming. We will definitely be back and will stay at Nik's place again.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to give 0 stars!

Unfortunately, I'm unable to give 0 stars. I have never been treated so badly by a website. First, you spend time creating your account as a host, uploading photos, making a description in four different languages and so on. It takes some time. Next, you will receive an email asking you to wait until they have checked your account. So far so good. It took a week with that. Then you get a standard mail where they, and hold on, within 48 hours, demand a copy of one's passport (driving license is not accepted) and a copy of a rental agreement or proof of ownership for the property you want to host. That's OK, except that I'm not excited to send a copy of my passport with all personal information in a plain unencrypted mail. But now I have done that. Then you wait 5-6 days after which you get another standard mail stating that you do not "meet their security and quality requirements" and that your account has been deleted with immediate effect - no explanation for what the problem is, what they lack or can not fit into their "demands" - and moreover, they have the audacity to write in the mail that they thank you for understanding! Yes, you have just accused me, without explanation or basis, of being a liar, fraudster or worse and thank me so much for my understanding!?! Then you call in and of course get a poor employee somewhere out in the world with no clue and he can only tell that you that they do not know the requirements and that your account has been deleted because there has been "unusual activity" on it. Well, what "unusual activity" could there be on an account that is not active yet ?? Then, you write back to them nicely and ask for an explanation. Of course, you will not get any answer! This "company", which has now lost all credibility, also has all of my personal information that may be misused by anyone. I am considering a police report for violation of the Personal Data Act, but it hardly helps because they hide somewhere in the world. I can only say one thing ... STAY AWAY!

Always had great experiences...

I have used Wimdu 4 times in my European travels and have been very happy. The apartments have always looked like the online pics. I have always had great experiences on getting keys to get in even when my flights were late arriving.
