Great place to get all your photography gear
I'd completely forgotten about 42photo, many years ago I bought a Mamiya camera from their NYC shop. Recently I was looking for a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 USM lens for my camera and 42photo had the best price across all Amazon retailers plus a $20 introductory discount. The lens ordered from the Amazon store arrived quickly and was safely packaged. I'm very happy with my purchase and will use again when looking for a new kit)))

I popped into the 42Photo store NYC ran a Saturday morning trial of the OM system om-5 and OMD EM10 mark iv. It was enjoyable and informative with two very knowledgeable staff accompanying us outside the shop with my girlfriend as we took pictures with the cameras. Tried both models, took a lot of time and got an initial feel of the cameras. A great way to spend a few hours in New York.

As we were sightseeing in midtown New York, I saw this shop an wanted to scout for an upgrade to our aging Nikon equipment. As we were exploring, my husband saw the Canon r8. Then came the salesman to help us. His name was Richard, what a patient, friendly and knowledgeable photographer. He explained the full-frame mirrorless cameras so well that we had to buy it with external financing. We have not regretted purchasing this camera. We would recommend Richard and his team!!!

I came into the store in search for a new camera and was very successful! I was provided with very attentive and patient customer service. I finally settled on a canon r100 with 18-45mm lens, no pushy salesy language and the gentleman who served me answered every question from my amateur background. I'd 100% recommend a visit!

Mark was very helpful in getting an old (7 year old Canon 1AE to charge again, he saved me the hefty cost of buying a new camera as I love its classic vintage look!
Lovely store with plentiful of great kits including binoculars...!

I recently visited 42Photo in New York and had the pleasure of being assisted by a salesman named Richard. From the moment I walked in, Richard was incredibly welcoming and hospitable-he patiently answered all my questions and explained everything clearly without overwhelming me with technical jargon. His ability to keep everything straightforward and simple while radiating deep knowledge of the astrophotography products made a huge difference.

High quality camera gear and excellent service
Excellent customer service and great price. I bought a new R6 mk2 plus 24-105mm L lens, and traded an older lens. Both transactions were seamless, with up to date communication about the delivery of the camera and the trade in from 42Photo NY. Definitely my first choice for new purchases and future equipment that I want to sell.

Two Sony cameras one lens in a recent purchase. I shopped fully online at 42Photo. The service is excellent. The prices are reasonable. Their used products come with the most granular details. The variety of cameras and accessories is impressive. It's a candy shop for photographers.
This place is exciting and lovely
This place is exciting and lovely! Second time here and there is a sprawling inventory of all electronics! It's so fun to look around in and the staff is so passionate. Their online store is just as efficient, whether you buy online or in store, if you have any questions, they're always responded.

I called and the sales person that took my call during the conversation suddenly decided that he did not want to continue talking with me and transferred to recording machine.
False Amazon listing and more.
Ordered an item from an Amazon listing. Day after Amazon said it shipped and charged my card, I was notified by Amazon about a refund for an "account adjustment", for the full amount. The item still showed as "Shipped", expected Jul 24. I called seller directly (42nd Street Photo). They told me they went to warehouse for the item, found an inventory error, and refunded my money. No apology, the item still shows as shipped, expected in the past, "probably delivered on Jul 24". All blame rests on 42nd Street Photo , they told Amazon it had shipped before they even had the item in hand, were advertising an item they didn't really have, and although they did refund the money when they found their "error", they didn't update the bad status.

Purchased a Canon EOS R7 Camera with 80-150mm lense, item number 122281, and expected to pay the listed price of $1,299. The price of $1,899 had a line drawn threw it indicating a $600 savings. The $1,299 price is for a European bare bones stripped down model with none of the touted features. The fully functional model as described is $1,899. Bait and switch. I would not buy from them again.
I ordered a Canon R3 and Canon…
I ordered a Canon R3 and Canon 100-500mm lens. I got the camera and lens and then 5 months later figured I better register the camera and lens with Canon Professional Services. They said, you can't because it's gray market. When I bought the camera and lens I specifically said, I don't want any gray market cameras or lenses. Well I got gray market crap. I am going to sue these rotten losers. These guys are just criminals pretending to be a camera store! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
Scam merchant "bait and switch"
Scam merchant "bait and switch". They made an error in shipping the item to my home address instead to temporary address. I called them and was told "We noticed the different address and held back on your order" I had paid max rate for expedited shipping. I was then told "You ordered the international version it only comes in Mandarin!"* So much for being international. We do have the domestic version - which costs more - $160 more including extended warranty." I told the agent I did not want extended warranty. He immediately said "There was no option to decline the warranty. I will cancel your order and give you a refund." I agreed.
* I re-ordered the same camera with fictitious details. There is NOT an option for selecting international or domestic. Dishonest and untruthful company.
Don't Pay to Learn the Lesson - STAY AWAY!
Like so many others, I paid to learn a very valuable lesson to stay away from 42nd street photo and CPS Warranty. I initially ordered an "international" version of the Canon R5 from 42nd Steet Photo. They called and explained the difference so I paid more for the American version. Almost immediately I started getting "Error 70" messages while shooting. I've since learned that's a common problem with the R5. I tried multiple fixes but none worked. I then tried to register the camera with Canon, only to learn that it was NOT in fact an American version but was a gray market camera and was not covered with any waranty. I called 42nd Street and they said, "Oh no, it's covered by CPS." So I get with them, register the camera and file a claim and within minutes the claim is denied because I experienced the problem within the first 30 days of ownership. So in effect, THERE IS NO WARRANTY. What a scam! Again, I paid to learn a very valuable lesson. STAY AWAY!
Stay Away from 42nd Street Photo/CPS Central Insurance
I bought an expensive Canon mirrorless camera and it broke the 2nd day - I am posted overseas in Africa with govt. 42nd Street Photo said I had a warranty but when I sent the camera in, their warranty company, CPSCentral/Shocked Electronics, said they wouldn't honor the warranty because water damage wasn't covered. BUT then I asked for them to send me written documentation of that, so my other insurance would cover it (much better insurance through American Express) but they refused and said they couldn't send me their diagnostic or even fill out a form for me. So these people make a real effort to NOT honor the warranty or even help you get coverage when they don't offer it. I would never use them.
STAY AWAY FROM 42ND ST PHOTO STORE!!!
I BOUGHT HERE and my suggestion is PLEASE DO NOT BUY IN THIS CAVE OF THIEVES! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! This SMALL STORE only have FRAUDULENT GRAY MARKET, INTERNATIONAL AND EXPENSIVE OBSOLETE CAMERAS AND LENSES FROM DUBIOUS MARKET.
I called directly to CANON and they told me that this Store IS NOT A CANON RESELLER, so you will not NEVER have a warranty. The 42nd ST PHOTO only have DEMO cameras & lenses, so these items usually are defective and damaged THEY ARE NOT COVERED BY ANY MANUFACTURER or CAMERA BRANDS (CANON, NIKON or SONY).
The 42nd ST PHOTO website page is a piece of trash, OBSOLETE, OLD and MEDIOCRE AS THE STORE AND THEIR ITEMS.
The customer service is AWFUL, TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING, the EMPLOYEES are COCKY and they are a piece of human beings trash ( in special RAPHAEL a Colombian seller, he's the worst) Also this guy, RAPHAEL is FRAUDULENT and a SCAM. He asked me about my SS and my account personal password from 42nd ST PHOTO. I didn't want to give this info to him, so He treat me very NASTY, UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE. Then he insulted me and hung up the phone (RAPHAEL). KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
