I was looking for an illustrated hard book edition of a book which was hard to locate. They were able to supply it from a bookseller - at a very low price with exceptionally cheap shipping. The book was in a very good condition with the the outside jacket with minor damage. It arrived from UK to Canada quickly, within the promised time-frame.

I ordered two used hardback books on clocks and watches, both described as clean and undamaged. They turned up today, in a thin, plastic bag, so suffered bashed corners, but what's worse is that both were literally filthy, as if they'd been kicking around the floor of a garden shed for a couple of years.

It's not worth the time and hassle of returning them, so I'll try to clean them up, but it's a pretty poor show by ABE and their seller (Bahamut).

They had a print on demand for a book I needed for my family tree, andI couldn't be happier! I had been looking for a reasonably priced copy forever.

Allows sellers to get away with dishonest practices. Very difficult to communicate with Abebooks. No telephone support. Ordered book from seller where shipping cost was stated in listing. Seller then informed me I would have to pay 75% more for shipping. I refused and seller canceled order. No recourse available.

after payment is done not shipped citing bad quality!

Wish I could give them a negative review! Abe books and HPB the worst. So hard to work with! Sent the wrong book, then took forever to accept return. I paid for return and have tracking that it was delivered to them and they still wont give refund. Not response from inquiries. It is HPB-Red in TX. DO NOT BUY FROM any HPB stores!!! Ridiculous!

I wish I had read the reviews before ordering! The book I ordered wasn’t cheap, but it was advertised as being in good condition. Buying through abe.co.uk I thought it was a safe site. The seller allegedly sent the book from the USA. When it arrived I found about 20 pages in the centre had either holes or were stained. Something had become trapped and eaten its way through several pages. Consequently the pages had big gaps in reading material.

ABE insist I pay for shipping back to Philadelphia and when I’ve contested this they have ignored my emails. This is a franchise of Amazon but completely unethical and unreliable!

I buy and sell on AbeBooks all the time--50+ transactions per month. It is a great platform to connect with buyers and sellers of good used books. Keep up the good work, ABE!

DO NOT BUY from AbeBooks! They regularly mis represent the books they list. Usually list with the most expensive version in the picture, and in my most recent purchase in the description. They offer NO support or recourse and leave you to fight it out with the book seller. They had a book listed in the description and pictured as a Folio Society book, and they sent out a different version from some unknown press. They won't provide a return shipping label, and its been several days now that they have the returned book (at my expense), about a month since they've had my money and still no refund.

I have never received the products although I have paid. After writing to Abebooks that I have not receive the product at the date they indicated as delivery date they said that they do not care , that for them teh delivery took place and if I still have problems to talk with some other trasnport company. Th eprocedure to contact this transport company is suddently on paper and very laborious hence difficult to follow. In addition it is on the buyer which alaredy suffered a prejudice. Luckily there are still book shops. I will never order online again! They never reimburse and they do not deliver

They consistently send you the wrong books. I returned one and I lost the receipt from the post office with tracking (but have the credit card receipt) and they cancelled my refund and have the book!! They don't reply directly either. Very shady company. Look elsewhere for textbooks. They are a scam.

Received wrong item. Ordered teachers manual for all about reading, photo and description were correct item. Seller advised me they use “stock” photos for listings so you will see the exact book you need via the picture, but ISBN is for a different book. Bull$h1T! They want me to pay for return shipping. Cannot find how to reach company for help.

I read all the bad reviews. Took a huge chance and ordered a rare book. Leather bound copy of original arrived on time. Price reflects quality of print. Still, I am very happy to have the book.

Clunky ,outdated , frustrating.

I buy books from three different book companies. I compare what is available, I look for pricing and book condition. I find that Abe Books at times has several books to choose from and that helps with decision making. So far, so good!! No problems.

Thieves

Recently I bought ( in February!) three books, paying 130 euro, and I didn't receive any of them! I tried to complaint yet nothing happened! THE TRUE WORLD OF BOOKS is one of the sellers, to whom I paid 45 euros for one book which I have never seen.
Could anybody bring them to justice? Buyer's rights? I should be able to pay AFTER the book is in my hand, that's the online shopping! I should be able to return legally, if the product isn't as it should? Why abebooks became such a "gathering of thieves and deception"?

I’d give them a 0 if I could. I bought a book from them and they sent me the wrong book. Instead of making it right, they demanded that I pay for the shipping to return the book they sent me, which again was the wrong book. So, they expect me to pay extra for their mistake. After several emails attempting to figure out why I’m supposed to pay more in order to get my money back, they then tell me they don’t have the book I ordered at all. Which means they took my money for a product they didn’t even have, sent me the wrong product, and now expect me to pay extra to send it back to them. This is the most ridiculous experience I’ve ever had with an online bookstore. Don’t waste your time or money with them.

I came across a set of the the Encyclopedia Britannica from the 80s for an amazing price (note, I would've paid a lot more here) and ordered it. Note the word "set", which was used in their ad.

I got ONE book from the set. Worthless.

I asked for a refund! They agreed promptly - but are having me ship it back on my dime! Now they've sent me about 5 emails asking me to return it in the last week, as I've been very busy at work, and was trying to make up my mind whether it was worth returning.

Shipping will cost me as much as I spent on the book. Rather than return this so someone else gets screwed, I guess I'll keep it and eat the loss.

Paid almost 20 euro for international delivery (Italy => Poland) for just a single book and they sent it with the cheapest provider, no insurance, no tracking number. The package was lost and I cannot get my money back

Delivery time is way off 5 to 8 days been way over 2 weeks. Good selection but very unreliable
