I went with Action Challenge to climb Kilimanjaro and it was indeed the experience of a lifetime. I cannot praise the whole team enough from the leader Joe to the local guides, porters and chefs who not only carried our gear, offered a helping hand on tricky bits but also kept us motivated and entertained with their chatter and singing. Our daily briefings were informative and helpful, letting us know exactly what to expect and how best to achieve it. The food was also great! I have done several of their Ultra challenges in the UK and chose them for Kilimanjaro as I trusted their high standards. I was definitely not disappointed and cannot recommend them enough. I will be booking with them again.
Thanks everyone for the invaluable support and a brilliant experience.
I went with Action Challenge to Tanzania & took on Kilimanjaro (Feb 24) & I can’t praise these guys enough. They’re super organised & I can’t fault the service I received. The leader of my trip ‘Joe’ was absolutely brilliant, preparing us every step of the way. Along with our Medic, who was always there to look after us, no matter how small the problem. The local team they use are also 1st class & they worked unbelievably hard, shifting all our stuff from camp to camp everyday & providing everything we needed in camp (including superb food). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Action Challenge to anyone planning to take on Kilimanjaro🗻 & I’ll definitely be considering using them again for any future adventures. Thanks Guys, for a brilliant experience from start to finish.
Having taken part in Action Challenge events in the UK, when my friend and I decided to take on Kilimanjaro, they were the obvious choice. Total support before, including zoom calls, informative App, help with VISA and always at the end of an email. Total support at the airport, connecting flights and transfers. After a final kit check and briefing, we were off, supported by Action Challenge leader Joe Johnstone, 2 doctors and 110 staff. Good quality tents and comfy camping mattress and 5 chemical toilet tents. Excellent food including fresh fruit was served in the mess tent breakfast, lunch and dinner, with safe prepared drinking water in abundance with snacks for our backpacks. Regular briefings throughout the course of the day. To me it's all about being safe and at no time did I feel in danger. A truly most unforgettable experience for that I can't thank Action Challenge enough.
Amazing challenges and amazing team looking after you every step of the way
The events are well organised and signposted. Organisers are friendly and approachable. These are brilliant, we have done 3 so far and hope to enjoy many more. Definitely recommend these as good, doable challenges.
This was the 1st time I did a challenge like this and I was very impressed with how well organized it was and well signed it was along the route . The staff were helpful and the food /snacks were great .
A wonderful experience overall. To make it 5* it would be nice to have a bigger snack selection at the Start of the Event. Meal after was superb!
This is the first Ultra Challenge I have completed. I will be looking to do more in the future. The Coms were appropriate. The App provided all the info that I needed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. This is clearly a well oiled machine. There were some freebies provided. There were snacks at the half way point and a meal provided at the end. I would recommend doing this or other events.
I’ve done many different challenges and the Action Challenge was the best one, so well organised and signage brilliant. The crew/volunteers were so friendly and helpful.
Action challenge organise UK based Ultra Challenges and also overseas experiences too. I have not done any of the overseas challenges yet (but hoping to do Everest Basecamp in 2025).
I have taken on many of the UK challenges as a walker, distances of either 50km or 100kms. These include their routes on Thames Path, South coast, Jurassic coast, Cotwolds, Chilterns, Windsor and North Downs.
Booking: I have never had any issues with booking, all pretty easy really and managed via Active. Choose an event, choose a distance, and how you want to do it (walk, jog, run).
Merch: I would recommend if you are adding some branded clothes to you order, go a size up. I haven't ordered a tech tee for a while but I remember it being a tad small!!!
Rest stops: The set up at all the rest stops is great.. lots of snacks, drinks, medical assistance and covered spaces to rest/change socks etc. I have completed events with other organisations over the years, and have yet to find one that matches Action Challenge for catering and rest stop support (and cleanliness of the loos!!!!)
En route: the routes are all well signposted and there are often people along the route at difficult spots/ places you could possibly make a wrong turn. It is up to you to make sure you keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you...I missed a turn on one of the challenges because I was on my phone, and ended up walking 10mins the wrong way. At 4am and 70kms into a walk, this is the last thing you want!
Overall I would highly recommend using Action Challenge, based on my experiences on the UK Ultra events. Well organised, friendly staff, lovely routes and lots of support.
I have done lots of the UK (Ultra Challenge) and 2 International events (EBC and Kili) Action Challenge run and I have always found them to be very helpful (over the phone or on email) when I have had a issue or needed clarification from rearranging events before hand during the Pandemic or because of injury. I find Action Challenge is with us every step of the way on event day if we need support by the medical, trekmaster, site teams or control room if we get lost. Having done the UK events, I was not worried about the international events due to robust plans being in place to support travel, altitude and medical problems. The leader's goal is everyone has a Safe, Happy and Successful expedition. The local crews Action Challenge work with are brilliant. I have found Action Challenge to be fair when it comes to the cost of living and giving participants the opportunity to see the UK and world. I would highly recommend Action Challenge; these events have changed my life.
Have been doing events as a participant since 2014 and seen positive developments and improvements to an already good approach. Last event was the Halloween Walk when in real time they were assessing and making changes to the route due to protestors. 11.2k people on the FB participants group and any complaints on there being rare and usually quickly resolved, tells me my experience is typical with a company honestly trying to provide a good service. The volunteers are amazing. The atmosphere and on event support are so encouraging. I havent done any International events but have heard good things.
I participated in my first Action Challenge event in 2015 and shortly hope to be taking part in my 56th!
I have greatly enjoyed them all as their organisation is first class from registration to the finish line. Routes are very well signposted, making it almost impossible to get lost. Covered rest stops, providing a wide selection of snacks and drinks, are approximately every 12k with medics on hand to deal with blisters or other ailments. At the end there is a finishers' meal, together with a great medal and souvenir t shirt.
I always look forward to seeing other regular participants, as these challenges become addictive and a lot of us come back time and time again.
I thoroughly recommend Action Challenge and hope to take part in many more of their events.
Been on about 7 of these over the last few years in various parts of the country & cannot fault the organisation or commitment of both the Action Challenge team or the volunteers who help them out whatsoever.
Food at the rest stops is great with good variety (even for a GF bod like me 😊).
I've seen them jump into action on many occasions to help out participants and change routes at the last minute to enable the best experience possible.
Will keep on doing!
Just signed up for the Jurassic coast 2024 and can’t wait. Having been bitten by the bug doing my first charity challenge Cotswold way with AC back in 2018. I have been steadily collecting the full set of their UK events and also Kilimanjaro and Mera Peak. Jurassic coast will complete the set.
Their ultra weekends really are second to none. I have walked/run areas of the country I would never have been and all while supported by a network of rest stops and a team of wonderful staff and volunteers who come back time and again. It is so lovely to see so many familiar faces on each event, it has a real community feeling and everyone is so positive and supportive.
If any issues arise in the run up to a challenge I know I can call AC and it will get sorted asap.
Jurassic may complete the set but I know I will be back, maybe it is the FOMO talking, but I simply enjoy the challenge of their events.
I have taken part as a participant and also as a Trek Master... JCC in 2022 was the most brutal thing I have done! Epic! Every aid station we came across was fantastic, the medic at Lulworth properly fixed my feet which enabled me to carry on to Weymouth, without her I wouldnt have got that far. Legend.
Trek Mastering is amazing, the team are marvellous and I have made new friends doing this. Helping and encouraging participants to finish is a real honour. We are very well looked after and I cant wait to get back out there this year.
in 2023 I participated on the lake district challenge. the support in the lead up to the event and on the day were exemplary Action Challenge are geared towards supporting their participants on the events and I have seen this both as a participant and as a volunteer. for what they offer on event day they represent good value for money and are the best out there
5 emails ignored - and then charged £20 to cancel my booking. Joke of a firm and customer service.
Entered this years L2B event. Was doing it for some emotional reasons (carrying my late husbands ashes down to Brighton where he grew up). The organisation was absolutely brilliant and the support team, medics and food stations amazing. Sadly I tripped over something in the dark (my fault - lesson learned - keep your eyes and head torch on the floor!). I really hurt myself and the lovely medical took me out of the event at 81k.... was so disappointed but it was the right thing to do. I'm not giving up and will be back again next year to complete 'unfinished business'! Big thank you to the team at Action Challenge.
