Customer Service Hit and Miss
Kira put me on hold for over 10 minutes without cause. Just took the call and promptly put me on hold without explaining why. What a rude thing to do! I then hung up and was greeted by Diana who was prompt and helpful. Took about 2 minutes to help me. 5 star review left for Diana, -5 stars for Kira!
No Issues. Great Customer Service
I had a savings account with Alliant for a few months because of a bonus and high interest rate. I never had any issues during that time, but I didn't do a lot. Just got off the phone with customer service to close my account today because I have switched to a different bank. The customer service agent I spoke to was extremely helpful and polite. The whole process took 5-10 minutes and was very pleasant.

useless bank with horrible customer service, I regret ever setting up an account with them. Avoid alliant.
horrible bank, avoid.
Really regret ever creating an account with this bank. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen. I would recommend everyone avoid this bank.
Leave this company
Leave this company while your balance is still accessible and correct, they are circling the drain. Double billed debits getting worse and worse and they refuse to fix it and blame the vendors and then send me overdraft notices. It's like wells fargo stuff but actually due to incompetence vs evil. Then to boot their entire platform was down mobile AND web for a day which is virtual insolvency for an online bank. Things aren't getting better these days, run while you can!
Possibly the worst customer service…
Possibly the worst customer service agents I have EVER experienced. Not only once but the very next day I dealt with an EXTREMLY rude customer service consultant. We just started our RV loan with them, and I was calling to make my first payment with them over the phone. She was talking to me so rudely and like I was stupid. I could not even believe it at first. The tone of her voice was hostile and frustrated. I was being calm and kind as usual and she kept up with her attitude. It takes a lot for me to get up in these situations because I know that everyone has bad days, but this was purely unacceptable. I finally said, I'm done. I am hanging up. You have an awful attitude. I am going to call back and talk to someone else. I was shocked! They talk like that to their customers?!?! If that was my employee, she would be fired! You do not treat your PAYING customers with hostile, condescending disrespect!
Alliant Leads With Ineptness
Alliant operates in the most inept way possible. Their customer service operation is pathetic & generally inexperienced. This results in calls constantly being transferred & many times dropped. An investment & upgrade in new technology is urgently needed. Alliant makes the simplest transactions incredibly complex and over the top frustrating. These folks are bad news.
Good Service
I've used Alliant since 1997. Always gave me great service.
Absolutely the worst experience I have…
Absolutely the worst experience I have had with a financial institution. The HELOC underwriting process was hindered by an uninformed and unqualified individual. Once approved i was informed I would need a checking account as well. I opened the checking account, received checks, transferred the majority of the HELOC into the checking and wrotew a check for that amount. The checked bounced because unknown to me the checks were for the HELOC not the checking account. I was charged for the transfer, the overdraft, and the subsequent wire transfer to cover the bad check. In addition the floating rate rose 3 days after closing. When I called to straighten this out I was on hold for over an hour and i as told there was nothing they could d do.
During my first time home buying…
During my first time home buying experience I felt very taken advantage of. The process of home buying can be very intimidating & if you aren’t knowledgeable you will be taken advantage of. The lender I worked with did not take the time to fully explain the process or what he was doing.
I did not continue on with this bank simply due to the trust factor. Also the wrong appraisal was ordered that I paid for out of pocket & they are unwilling to refund me although the actual loan processor agreed with the inappropriate handling of this entire process.
I wouldn’t use Alliant ever for any home buying financing. My experience wasn’t good at all.
Do not invest your money here
Do not invest your money here. I attempted to open up a savings account since Sep 2022 it has been 3 months now and I still can't the multiple supervisors and customer service reps to figure out why their system gives me an error message when trying to open up a simple savings account. Only reason I hung on so long is Suze Orman recommended them and now I can't and will not invest my money with them can you imagine if something serious happens and you can't get someone there to figure an issue out with your money

I rate Alliant two star because for the second time I called and I got poor customer service. I’ve been with Wells Fargo almost 10 years and Wells Fargo has its cons but their customer service is amazing. I was never treated differently or had poor customer service. If anything happens with your money with Alliant credit union it seems as if it would be difficult to get your problem resolved.
I've been extremely happy with Alliant
I've been extremely happy with Alliant. I came over from ETrade when they got bought out by Morgan Stanley and I am constantly surprised with how good they've been. They don't charge me for overdrafts, I get high-yield savings rates in my regular savings account, their app is great, and when I called to get help with something today, I was off the phone in under (literally) 2.5 minutes. Any other bank I've used charges tons of fees and takes over 30 minutes to talk to a human. I can't recommend Alliant enough!
Emotionally Draining …
My mother (who banked with Alliant) passed away several months ago. The way Alliant has handled the matter is appalling to me and my family. I’ve spent a collective 4+ hours on the phone with 20+ “customer service” representatives trying to iron out very basic things such as getting a bank statement for the month of her passing. One representative admitted to me that sometimes they just transfer customers to other departments because they don’t know what to do. On top of this, we’re still receiving solicitations in my deceased mothers name with offers for things like auto insurance. Very emotionally draining. FWIW, all other financial institutions my mother had ties to were professional and compassionate.
Credit Card Deliberately Services…
Credit Card Deliberately Services Scammers. Longtime member. Made transaction thru PayPal for a specialized battery that never came. Tried relief through PayPal whose account had been erased by them. Then went to the promised chargeback relief through "my" credit union card, the kind that promises to make us whole if a fraudulent transaction occurs. Alliant repeatedly refused not only chargeback but any information on who my funds went to, deliberately supporting crooks. As a retired bank regulator I went through all the proper steps. Still given **** and $0.00. Chargeback problems would have fallen on me and not Alliant, but "policy" is to screw accountholders. The small amount could have been written off as "goodwill" to long-term member and this matter consumed much more peoples paid time than the disputed $. Less expensive just to refund as advertised , but no, the crooks had to be protected.
Removed a bank linkan alliant still tried to use it for autopay
So I changed banks recently and the account used to previously automatically pay my Alliant loan on a monthly basis would no longer work. Per their website, I removed the external account and received confirmation of the approval at least 2 weeks before the next payment date. It should be noted that there is no
way to remove the auto payment setup.I then set up delivery of the monthly payments from my new bank because it could not be set up as an external bank on Alliant. I received confirmation from my new bank that the payment was sent to Alliant. Much to my dismay, however, Alliant also tried to process the payment against the DELETED external bank resulting in a returned payment fee of $15. When I called Alliant customer service, I was on hold for 30 minutes with an annoying soundtrack and regular voice prompts to press 2 to stay on hold (obviously they hope that you will miss the prompt or give up. Eventually I got through to a Seth who told me that the cancellation of any future payments is the responsibility of the account holder even if the external payment account used for the payment has been deleted. For that reason he said that the returned payment fee would not be waived. He was not at all sympathetic and said I should have written a letter to disabIe upcoming payments. From a web user perspective, I would expect their system to warn about upcoming payments giving the option to cancel the auto payment. It truly appears as a method to assess fees, especially given Seth's explanation that now a payment was attempted and returned, the external account haas been automatically removed (flashback: I removed it weeks ago on their website.
In summary, the customer service experience at Alliant is poor at best
Sided With a Fraudulent Company
This CU used to be great, but I recently had a very bad experience with them. A fraudulent company failed to deliver and Alliant customer service and grp-disputes have sided with the company rather than do their homework. I have spent hours gathering evidence proving they scammed me. Alliant says they have to convince Visa. This battle has been going on for six months. Yesterday they took the entire amount out of my account with no notice. Not a single warning. It is more than a thousand dollars. I'm taking this up with the Attorney General's Office since the fraudulent company claims to be in California but isn't. Alliant should have had my back.
Miserable technology and customer…
Miserable technology and customer service. I had accrued a significant cash back balance, which decided to use as statement credit to offset a statement balance (I pay off my balance each and every month). Entered the cash back balance transfer to statement credit (and received confirmation) on November 20, which did not post until December 14. This inexplicable delay pushed me past the statement payment due date (December 8), and Alliant assessed interest charges, which they would NOT remove (their response being that the cash back statement credit can take up to TWO billing cycles!!). I cancelled the card and will no longer do business with Alliant Credit Union.
Terrible customer service
Long time Alliant Credit Union customer. I have recently had to close all my accounts with them due to poor customer service. They forfeited the rewards balance on my credit card TWICE costing me over $100! They don't communicate terms and conditions clearly and they take no responsibility for any issues. Glad to not have to deal with these people anymore.
Not recommended for immigrants
It's very difficult to open an account with Alliant if you're not a U.S. citizen, even if you have the documents they request. I waited for 40 days to find out they'd closed my application because it was taking THEM too long to process it.
A few days after I applied, I was requested to upload more documents (driver's license, social security card, utility bill). After this, I waited 2 weeks and didn't hear back. I called customer support multiple times, but was told to just keep waiting. Eventually, I got asked for more ID, which I uploaded and waited for another week. They weren't happy with the cropping and sent another request, so I re-scanned and uploaded again. Another week goes by, and I get a letter in the mail letting me know my application is cancelled because "we tried to contact you multiple times and got no response".
When I called, they tried to put the blame on me since I must have "missed an email", told me they could not re-open the application and I'd just have to apply from scratch.
