On pick up my booking confirmation was split into two hires. I was told it was because the hire was for 42 days. Later my card was debited with two payments with an overcharge of GBP 133. So far, I'v... See more

Absolutely disgraceful experience with…
Absolutely disgraceful experience with Avis from start to finish. DONT TRUST
The vehicle broke down, and we were left waiting over three hours for assistance. WOTG CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
Trying to contact customer services was just as bad, with call waiting times of over an hour before anyone answered. AND ALSO CALLS CUTTING OFF.
This has been, without question, the worst customer service experience I have ever had
Our hire car developed a fault, and we received an urgent email from Avis instructing us to return the vehicle immediately for inspection We drove to the Luton branc, as it was the closest location
From the moment we arrived, Farooq was rude, dismissive and completely unwilling to help Rather than trying to find a solution, he made us feel like we were an inconvenience
I contacted Dominika, the manager at the Manchester branch where I had originally collected the vehicle. After hours of emailing her because customer care was not answering. She told me she would call me back in five minutes after looking into the situation. She never did. Instead, we were left waitingover three hours with no updates whatsoever.
During that time, we asked Farooq if he had heard anything because we had children with us who were hungry and just wanted to get home. Instead of showing any empathy, his attitude became increasingly hostile. At one point, he became so aggressive that he threatened my friend, saying that if the CCTV camera wasn’t there, he would smash his face. We did nothing other than ask and cctv was in place. That is completely unacceptable behaviour from anyone, let alone someone dealing with customers. My friend was only looking out for me and asked very kindly but Farooq had some sort of power trip and was horrible “we not giving her a car” FOR NO REASON
To make matters worse, we later discovered that Dominika had asked Leonard, the Luton branch manager, to inform us that they were unable to provide another vehicle because they simply didn’t have any available. Yet Leonard LUTON MANAGER couldn’t even be bothered to come over and tell us. We were left sitting there for hours with no communication at all, while staff knew there was no replacement vehicle available.
After all of that, Avis offered no practical solution.I was forced to pay for an Uber from Luton all the way back to Staffordshire with a young child because they could not provide a safe replacement vehicle or even communicate honestly with us.
The entire experience was disgraceful poor vehicle reliability, terrible communication, shocking customer service, aggressive behaviour from staff, and absolutely no care for customers who had already been inconvenienced by a vehicle fault.I will never use Avis again and would strongly advise anyone considering hiring from them to think twice
Charged twice for using "preferred…
Charged twice for using "preferred customer" service in South Africa and paying upfront for an additional driver. This has happened on two occasions - on the first I was refunded, but Aivs not responding on the second so I'm out of pocket.
Avis Europe said they can't comment and sent me to Avis South Africa, who aren't responding to emails after repeated attempts.
Excellent Service
From walking in through the door, customers service was second to none.
The young man at Avis Exeter Airport was polite, incredibly helpful. He got us out or a situation of being let down last minute by Enterprise as we needed to attend a funeral in the north.
The whole process of care-hire was a pleasure with him. We even got an upgrade.
I can’t say thank you enough for the kindness shown.
First class service from Avis Exeter Airport.
Booked with full price online through…
Booked with full price online through the website didn’t make me aware that I can’t hire at a young age. Travelled 40 miles to get the car was told at the desk that I wasn’t able to get the car. Keep calling Customer Service however no response I wait over 1 hour and no one answers the phone and then when someone did answer they said it’s gonna take 1-2 days to get the refund still haven’t received it after 2 weeks. Proper scam of a company don’t trust them at all.
Fake contracts, terrible data, awful service
1.5 hours for an AVIS president to get through with a complaint about our invoice. The first agent forgot that Budget and AVIS are combined and hung up because I am an AVIS customer. 20 years of loyalty and I get scammed by AVIS Bristol and AVIS Gatwick. Fake contract with bad data - get to the car and it has no fuel. We return it with more fuel and get charged 100 pounds. We then got charged 1,450 pounds for 2 scratches and a scuff which we did not do. No email, no message, no call. Just hit the card with this. Terrible on every level - the local franchisees must be doing it hard to have to do this.
Unexpected charges
Picked up car at Bergerac airport no problem. Car was quite new, clean and reliable. Returned the car a week later and the office was closed so used key drop box. Found on my return home that I had been charged extra for road tax and cleaning. The car was returned in a clean condition so I queried the charge online and sent supporting photos. Chased the query several times but only ever got automated replies and no resolution. Very disappointed.
Watch your invoice! Fake damage fees
I had an issue on my invoice where I was charged miscellaneous damage and they take 100 euros but no proof of the damage. Make sure you check that invoice at the end everyone. They just take it and hope you don’t notice.
Avoid.
Avoid. Added random charges not advertised beforehand, never justified them, invoice completely vague as yo what they are for, and completely ignored me when I asked.
Ticket number T1032C13D if an agent wants to reply to me and put this right.
Hidden rules, zero customer service after 4 PM, and a ridiculous £40 charge!
I had an incredibly frustrating experience with this company and want to warn others.
I made a booking online and provided my full information during the process. Nowhere on the website, nor in my confirmation email, did it mention a requirement to have held a driver's license for at least one year. Yet, when I arrived for pickup, the counter staff refused to give me the car for this exact reason. They couldn't even point out where this rule was supposedly stated.
To try and solve the problem, I called the "Contact Us" number to transfer the booking to my second driver's name. However, I was just told that customer service was unavailable because it was after 16:00, leaving me completely stranded with no support.
When I asked for a cancellation and a full refund, I was shockingly told I would be charged a £40 fee for "exceeding my pickup time." This is completely untrue—I arrived before my scheduled time. I actually had to go back to the counter to get evidence proving my punctual arrival.
This company hides critical booking terms, charges you for their own failures, and cuts off their customer support in the late afternoon when you need them most. Avoid them at all costs.
Avis took almost 600 Euros out of my…
Avis took almost 600 Euros out of my account for damage to a car - which was not done by me.
I recommend not using AVIS under any circumstances.
Deceptive charges
I rented a car for less than 12 hours and was hit with a £180 "Full Valet" cleaning fee, with embarrassing photographic evidence, for dry leaves on the floor mat. In the final invoice they also added location surcharges of £36, that contradicted my signed rental agreement showing an amount due of £0.15. When I complained with Avis they offered a partial refund but then completely ignored my follow-up emails. I have now initiated a credit card chargeback for these unauthorized fees. Absolutely terrible customer service and predatory billing practices. Avoid at all costs.
Sunglasses STOLEN!
Overcharged, twice. Sunglasses, stolen from the car! The member of their team had confirmed a pair of Tom Ford Sunglasses, "had probably been stolen by a member of the valet team"
AVOID!
Appalling experience at Belfast city…
Appalling experience at Belfast city with an assistant who not only made rude comments but made discriminatory comments. She is incompetent to the point of it being a joke. Do not hire with Avis at Belfast city airport, the woman with dark hair and her colleague are highly unprofessional, rude and a total disgrace to what used to be a reputable company. Go to a lovely man at the Sixt desk called Von who is the total opposite.
Very disappointed with Avis
Very disappointed with Avis. Having previously trusted them with hires at Avis Inverness, they have really let me down by adding on additional charges for fuel despite having filled up at the nearest fuel station to full. I did have a receipt but no one in the office during working hours to show this to which they have taken advantage of. I have tried to challenge this on email but not heard anything back as they haven’t replied to emails. Avis used to be my go to as I felt problems were resolvable with them but that opinion has changed now.
The car was unwashed when we picked it…
The car was unwashed when we picked it up. The washer fluid had not been topped up, so ran out during the journey. It is impossible to contact the company to speak to anyone. "Customer service" is an email answered by AI, which does not get the point of the complaint. The phone number given by Avis to contact the office is not working. The car is good, but the not type of car that I asked for (bigger, which I hate, but they seem to think I should be happy about).
Totally scammed out if £687
If I could give zero, I would. I rented a car using the website and prepaid. I live in Hong Kong, but have rented cars many times in the UK with my HK driving licence. When I turn up at the desk, they say they won't accept my HK licence, even though all the other companies do. The couldn't cancel my reservation at the desk, but admitted it was their mistake and told me to contact customer services. I have since contacted customer services 3 times. They apologise, promise an email and refund and then forget. I tried emailing , they told me to call customer services. I am beyond frustrated.
Awful
Awful!
Pick up for our car was at 11.30pm. We were delayed in a big queue at passport control, as happens in an airport. My husband got to avis at 11.38pm and it was closed. We were left stranded at the airport with 3 kids at midnight. They do not care. I have contacted them to try and get a refund for the cost of our taxis. radio silence. DO NOT USE! 1 star is too high honestly.
KEEP AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL COMPANY
This is the most unprofessional car rental company I've ever dealt with. I'd strongly recommend avoiding this company. The process was riddled with problems, nothing worked as it should, and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. Save yourself the hassle and choose a more reliable rental provider.
Car hire Bristol airport
Excellent service from start to finish. Tai at Bristol airport on Monday 6th July 2027 did everything possible to see to our car hire requirements. Tai. meticulously and, may I say patiently researched every available option for us, providing the best price for our needs, clearly explaining and guiding us through every step. His colleagues were also on hand to provide any assistance required.
Disaster from start to finish
Disaster from start to finish. Hired a car from Denver Airport, took 90 minutes to get a car, the last hour sat waiting for it to be delivered. When returning the car, nobody there to check us back in or help and then we get the invoice! I had prepaid with my BA voucher and for a full tank but i'm hit with nearly $1000 of extra charges, for what I still have no idea as nobody wants to talk or explain.
