The free 10GB uploaded quickly but once…
The free 10GB uploaded quickly but once I signed up and trying up upload more data (around 1TB total) the process became ever slower, until it was only managing to upload about 1GB per hour. At that point I terminated the upload, deleted my data and cancelled my account. From other reviews here it seems like a lucky escape!
Wack company
Restore option is so bad! App crashes on the restore!
the restoring files set up is really BAD! Its uses ur computer drive cant to the hole drive u hav to pick one by one files this is very bad!!!
Going back to Crashplan!
I wouldn't reccomend backblaze
I've tried backblaze before, I don't think it's a true backup solution. They delete files almost every 30 days. Back ups are supposed to be kept, not deleted. All you do is just add stuff to it to back up new stuff, and you're good. But deleting all files by itself, I wouldn't recommend Backblaze. Yes the Prices are good, they back up everything, but it will get deleted after 30 days.
So hit and miss.
So hit and miss.
- Backblaze constantly tells you your data is backed up; but then it turns out it isn't
- Then the data gets deleted and you have to spend another week+ with your hard drive plugged in to upload it all again!!
I've lost track the number of times I've had to go to customer service to say it's not running smoothly on a Mac.
Giving up after years with them...
Expensive automatic renewal
A new subscription would be $198 for two computers, but my automatic renewal is going to be $453.60. Time to cancel!
Don't leave your card on file!
Don't leave your card on file!
The backup service is ok for what it is, but I had two computers listed, I removed one of them (or thought I had). At renewal time they took the money for both. You have to jump through hoops to get to support and then nothing.
The customer support is terrible
The customer support is terrible. In the two separate cases, the underlying question was not answered and a template reply of 'Thanks for writing in Craig! Can you please try clearing the browser cache , attempting in a different browser and letting us know if the same issue persists?'
Word for word, though the issues were completely different.
Overal satisfied because of good price/quality
I have been using Backblaze for over 15 years, and generally, I am satisfied. It saved me a couple of times.
The Good:
- Backing up terabytes for that amount of money is well worth the price
- Upload speeds (I can back up tens of gigabytes in a few hours). I was on copper with 30 Mbps upload speeds and now on fiber, with my wifi being the limited factor, I get up to 100 Mbps upload speeds.
- Downloading data was straightforward (and fast)
- Responsive support (I've read the bad reviews here, but I had quick response, even over the weekend from a real person that was very knowledgable and methodical)
- Simple pricing and offering
To be improved:
- The user interface of the software really is outdated and sometimes buggy. I looks like it didn't get much attention by UX designers and developers in the past years.
- No way to remove auto-renewal (I don't get this, the bad reviews they're getting on that cost them more than the potential loss in revenue IMO). Also, if someone wants to leave, you're not going to keep them by removing a feature that, by all accounts, should be default in any online service
What a nightmare....I've been using BB…
What a nightmare....I've been using BB for several years now and was very satisfied. Until now...
Had problems backing up my Mac and had to contact support.
After many messages/screenshots and making clear that it was a Mac I had problems with I received a link to a tool that was for Windows...
I answered that it should be clear by now I am using a Mac and I received apologies with the message that they were assuming that I used a Mac according to the messages and screenshots they received...(?!??) and I received the same link to the Windows-app....OMG. Still not able to backup....
EDIT: send a complaint to the helpdesk and my complaint is now set to 'solved'. Well, set to solved by the same person my complaint was about.....
EDIT: After many conversations back and forth and many hours of testing after many adjustments recommended by the helpdesk I decided to cancel my subscription as nothing helped to solve my problems....
Worst Backup Service Ever
Signed as a partner never received anything promised. No one wanted to help solve problems. Never received the partner compensation I was due. They have no support or assistance at all. Don't use them. And if you have to restore a backup it takes days and days and days.
What an awful service
What an awful service. Their backup client is terrible, expensive, and so slow it's worthless. I regret signing up with this useless service.
Unreliable For Business Use
Unreliable For Business Use
We used Backblaze, but they closed our account due to a fake DMCA complaint without verifying its validity or checking for the existence of files in our account.
Their customer support is unreliable and often response is computer-generated AI nonsense. I wouldn't recommend using them despite their good pricing model.
We were not even given the chance to move our files. Luckily we have a backup with Digitalocean otherwise we were secrewed.
Dodgy billing practices
The Good:
I've found Backblaze to be unobtrusive and just gets on doing its thing in the background. When I've needed to restore files, it's worked.
The bad:
There is no way to cancel auto-renewal of the subscription without deleting your backup and stopping your service the day you stop the auto-renewal. Pick your word for this: dodgy, wrong, unethical, robbery.
TERRIBLE PRODUCT
I used Backblaze for a few months and then when I upgraded my computer to Sonoma it quit working and there was an annoying pop up window that said my computer was not backing up. When I contacted support they sent back a super complicated solution and the links they provided did not work. Furthermore once you download their product you cannot uninstall it by yourself. They built that into their product. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE OR PRODUCT!
Absolutely an useful service!
The service is a nightmare. It works very slowly when restoring files and uses a questionable cost calculation method. I was charged $1500 instead of the $99 for my yearly plan. I recommend avoiding this service due to its lack of usefulness and poor support quality.
Great to upload, impossible to restore
Awful, the download speeds (and reliability) mean I haven't been able to successfully download a file for a year and have now just deleted and given up. So poor, go to iDrive, bigger limits and faster restores that work.
Support is absolutely terrible
Support is absolutely terrible. All you get is canned responses and ZERO actual care for your specific issue. One of the worst customer support experiences EVER.
I used Backblaze for a year, never again.
I used Backblaze for a year. The install was simple and service worked flawlessly. The problem came when I found I was not going to need the service for awhile. When I got a renewal notice, I went to disable autorenewal but there was no such option. The only option is is cancel the service and give up the time you've already paid for or, wait till exactly the renewal date, remember log in and cancel or you get autorewed. The response from customer support was basically FU, live with it. This is a classic website dark pattern, one the CFPB has recently put out notice on. Any company employing this sort of unethical pattern will never get my business again as their management clearly have a broken ethical compass.
It sucks
It sucks! massive price increases and all kinds of sleazy tacktings to prevent you from cancelling the renewal.
Perplexed and confused by poor ratings...
In common with the other 5 star reviewers here, I’m taken aback by the number of bad revies for this organisation. As a photographer based in Scotland, I’ve used Backblaze to back up my images for over 6 years and have found them to be effective, efficient and communicative. Every single time I’ve reached out to them, a named individual has responded withing 24 hours and that same person has seen the conversation through to a conclusion. Having previously recovered individual images, I’ve just used them to recover 2tb of images due to me (like a total eejit) dropping an external drive. The recovery process was simple and within a week I had a 2tb drive with all my images delivered to my door.
Just my opinion, but I believe that the vast majority of the poor reviews are down to user-error and people simply not taking due care when linking all their drives.
I may not have used them if I’d seen these reviews, but I’ll continue with Backblaze and can’t recommend them highly enough…
