After service and attention to detail poor.

We used Barrhead for the first time in January to book a 2 week family holiday in Canada.
The agent was very friendly and easy to speak to you and knew her stuff about what we wanted and put together an itinerary. As we had other quotes we changed a couple of hotels to get a true like for like and they came in at about £50 cheaper.

I had good response and communication from the agent the whole time before going.
We got all the vouchers for hotels and flights and excursions etc about one week before going.
The agent then admitted they had missed an email about one the hotels booked that came back after we paid deposit (jan/feb) which informed them they could only accommodate us for 2 nights and not on the 3rd night. The agent was very apologetic that they had only just seen it, but got us got us into another hotel across the road for the 3rd night.
Obviously a huge inconvenience for a family of 6 including a 7 yr old to have to pack up and leave luggage at new hotel and not be able to check in again until late afternoon. It interrupted the flow of days planned.
there was no other option as all other places booked up, so we just had to accept this.

Printed all our vouchers off at home and off we travelled.
First problem was that we did not get the rooms we paid for at first stop hotel. showed the manager who did his best to make it right and we were happier with the rooms.
Hire car - there were supposed to be 2 named drivers as discussed but only one on the car info. agent tried to sort before we went to pick up car but could't so refunded £100 onto card for us to pay separately.Pick up was supposed to be downtown Vancouver near to hotel but this wasn't the case and had to go virtually back to the airport to pick up, 25 mins 6 seater taxi !

When we got to our 4th stop over this is where we had further issues. Hotel could now do 3 nights but it would of left us having to pay there and then without getting agent confirmation first they would reimburse us, and the 3rd night hotel was non refundable to the company so did not like to just do it and risk not getting money back. we're 8 hours behind so time difference meant we could not speak with agent.
This hotel our itinerary said 2 deluxe rooms but voucher said one standard and one deluxe. The hotel would only use the voucher. so had to go with it.
The 3rd night hotel was awful, agent confirmed in an email we had 2 king beds in each room. What we got was a bed and sofa bed that had seen much better days and very uncomfortable. Plus with the sofa beds in use you couldn't fully open the door from the open walkway and couldn't get luggage in without lifting sofa bed up. The rooms had fireplaces in which smelt all smokey leaving that smell on clothing. Horrible dark rooms.
Got up very early and left asap. It was the worse nights sleep and I felt it marred this part of the holiday.
The rest of the few days were all fine and we had picked our hotel in Canmore which was superb.
We got back 31st July.
Our issue is the communication since being home.
I had to chase the £100 for car hire.
Had to chase up the price difference for the rooms in Vancouver for what we paid and have finally received a refund of that this week.
With each email I sent after getting home the response time has been very poor. I even sent message via their Facebook to get someone to chase up.
The agent has been sent details of the 4th stop over issues and room quality difference to what we paid several times but has not addressed this at all. Only would talk about the Vancouver hotel which Barrhead did issue a refund this week ( now 2nd week sept)
I have the itinerary of what we paid for and the vouchers of what we got and the photos of the awful rooms.
They are don't seem willing to even say 'I will look into this'
last email asking about this again was 19/9/26, nothing back from them.
It seems they don’t want to fully help once your back and basically hope you will go away and stop emailing!

If you have booked with this company check your vouchers you are sent and make sure everything matches the itinerary you paid for especially hotel room types.

Will not use again or recommend purely for the fact that they don’t check when sending final vouchers etc out to client that its all matches what has been paid for and the fact post holiday problem communication is very poor.

The service level is the key and Lucy is second to none in providing a seamless service on any location.

Her knowledge across a wide cross section of locations allows me to broaden our horizons to areas that we would never have previously considered.

Well done Lucy
