Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience. I was given a great quote, but once they finalized the insurance, the price jumped by almost $50 per month. After I signed, they called a week later saying I had to activate their auto app or my rate would increase.
Despite this, my premium still went up again—ending up nearly $100 more per month than the original quote. Felt misleading and pressured, with constant price changes after commitment. I would not recommend.
The AutoMerit is ridiculously harsh to…
The AutoMerit is ridiculously harsh to the short distance braking. It doesn't understand in busy traffic or in the parking lot short distance braking is absolutely necessary to avoid an accident. The AutoMerit is suitable only in very quiet and idle traffic situations.
Absolute nightmare
Absolute nightmare. Avoid Belairdirect at all costs.
I was in an accident in mid-October and have been going to physiotherapy for what appears to be whiplash. My truck has been in the shop since the accident, yet Belairdirect has essentially gone silent while they “investigate” the claim.
My assigned claims adjuster does not return calls or emails. Customer service is just as unresponsive. Meanwhile, the rental car company is now demanding payment for over two months of rental fees — more than $3,000 — even though Belairdirect originally approved the rental.
The entire reason I made a claim was because I was injured and couldn’t afford the repairs out of pocket. I’ve paid my insurance faithfully for years, never missed a payment, and have never had a prior accident. This is exactly the moment insurance is supposed to step up — and they completely failed.
Because of Belairdirect’s inaction, I’ve now had to hire a lawyer and will be taking legal action.
Do NOT go with Belairdirect. When you actually need them, they will disappear and turn your life into a nightmare.
If I could give 0 stars I would
If I could give 0 stars I would. Took way to long to get my car even looked at for a repair that made my car underivable and a not at fault accident. Several phone calls and could still not get ahold of my handler. After nearly 2 months I finally got my car back with no reimbursement for having to reschedule my winter tire appointment twice due to inaccurate time to get the car back to me. I do not recommend anyone to go with this insurance provider, pay the extra 50$ months for your own price of mind.
If want an insurance that will deny you…
If want an insurance that will deny you coverage for someone destroying your car with lack of contact from police and insurance then this is the insurance you are looking for.
Will try to get out of covering you for "underwriting" even if give them case number from police.
Property insurance…
Dealt with an agent regarding insurance for my camp after my father passed, he was excellent, didn't take too long even though there was legalities, documents which needed to be forwarded, was patient and professional. Thank you Kevin. W.
Too quick to write off a vehicle
Rates are too high, and this company is too quick to write off your vehicle with no regard for whether or not you can afford another. If the repair costs are lower than the payout, FIX the thing. The company will save money AND the customer wont have to buy another vehicle. What a waste when the vehicle was driveable and the damage was superficial.
TEN Years suffering after an MVA
TEN Years ago I was in an MVA, I sustained a long term brain injury and chronic/lifetime issues with my neck and shoulders from whiplash. UNIFUND Insurance are the providers for one of the Defendants that caused the accident/pile-up on the highway. UNIFUND is part of Johnson, which is part of Intact and now BelAir. I have been suffering, and waiting for a settlement on the claim, but the lawyers keep pushing the case and stating incomplete files/documents/anything they can think of to delay the case. They are playing the typical lawyer games, trying to push me until I give up and walk away; so they won't have to pay out on the claim. This is a warning for everyone in general; car insurance is a scam, it does not protect us. When you are injured and hurt; no one cares, not the insurance companies, not lawyers and not the legal system. Even if you are extremely hurt, and have an easy claim; the chances of you getting fair compensation so you can financially afford to live the rest of your life - are slim. I think the best thing we can all do, is respect each other on the road and please drive safely. We all have to get where we are going, no one should have to give up their life just so you can get somewhere faster. I would give anything to have my life back, but because careless drivers were in a hurry; that will never happen
This is by far the most dishonest and…
This is by far the most dishonest and unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. I cancelled my insurance with Bella Direct over a year and a half ago, yet they kept withdrawing money from my account the entire time.
When I called them, they tried to tell me that I had cancelled “only three months ago.” When I proved that they had been taking money long before that, they suddenly said, “Oh yes, we took more — we didn’t notice.” They lied to me directly on the phone.
Even after explaining that I am a single mother and that this money is important to me, they refunded only three months, refusing to return the rest of the payments they continued to take after my cancellation.
This company has no integrity, no transparency, and no respect for its customers.
I strongly warn everyone: do NOT trust Bella Direct. They will take your money and deny responsibility until you catch them.
Over 8 months and counting for home repairs....DO NOT GO WITH THE INTACT FAMILY OF INSURANCE COMPANIES
After over 15 years of experience with Intact/Bellair, I will be cancelling my home and auto policies. I have waited over 8 months for home repairs following the March 2025 ice storm in Ontario and I still do not have resolution. Multiple adjusters, multiple managers and trying to contact customer service. There is no complaint resolution process and there is no process to contact an Ombudsman. Calls and E-Mails go unanswered. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Do not get sucked in to group discounts (eg: Applaud). Zero accountability and limited avenues as a customer to take any action to escalate concerns - they simply do not care. You have lost a valued customer and I would never recommend the Intact family to anyone. Customers should not have to fight so hard to get repairs completed under the policy.
I had a deeply disappointing experience…
I had a deeply disappointing experience with Belair Insurance regarding our home insurance claim. After a major flood caused by last year’s heavy snowfall, we faced significant delays and unprofessional conduct. The restoration company, On Side Restoration, sent by Belair, was subpar, and there was misleading information shared with the insurance company. Despite having clear proof, Belair treated us as if we were the liars, which was incredibly frustrating.
Additionally, the process to finalize our claim was painfully slow. We were promised documents to sign, which were never sent until we had to follow up repeatedly. The representatives we interacted with were often rude and unhelpful. To top it off, Belair failed to renew our insurance without notifying us, and we never received any registered letter they claimed to have sent. Moreover, they wrongly stated that we had made a second claim, which was never the case, and the reason why they said they canceled our insurance. This mishandling and lack of transparency have left us extremely dissatisfied.
In summary, I would not recommend Belair Insurance to anyone. I had a very hard time getting a different insurance due to their lack of responsibility.
Difficult assistant
I just completed a phone call trying to get insurance with this company. It was nothing but a headache due to the fact that I get a discount through my work place. The person I was speaking to wanted so much information about the company, even though he could see it on his screen, he wanted to know the mother Company that owns it. I finally realize what he was talking about and state the name, this still wasn’t satisfactory. I let him know. I would look at my paycheque and told him what title was on the top of my paycheck. This still didn’t work. I ended up telling the person assisting me that I have lost any interest in Bel Air direct. The response. Ok bye
This company was completely difficult and did nothing but give me a headache. Pretty sad that this is who I get offered my corporate rate through.
Terrible customer service...Garbage Insurer
Terrible customer service. Worse system.
Tried to make a change to our insurance online so we could pick up a new vehilce and their system told us they couldn tmake a change and to call them. Then when we called two separate CSRs told us they couldnt access our account and to do it online. They also couldnt tell me how much to cancel my account. Garbage insurer.
EVEN LESS THAN ONE STAR
EVEN LESS THAN ONE STAR
You'll wait OVER a month just for them to process this ridiculous application from our pathetic Alberta government. Clearly it seems they are not interested helping you. I'm guessing if anyone had to make a claim the wait time is worse. Horrible customer service.

Group travel insurance…Ontario Colleges employees and retirees
I am an Ontario CAAT College retiree who bought a group travel insurance policy this year. Since then, my experience was so bad, so stressful, and so prolonged. Shamefully poor communication, unexplained actions, increased premiums, and excessive delays in making adjustments. Since the Colleges Employer Council, Toronto, can choose other insurance companies for group plans, i have sent my formal detailed complaint there. I encourage other CAAT employees and retirees who have had problems with this company to do likewise. The CEC Toronto address is on their website. My travel insurance needs will now be met through CAA.
Automerit is not good
I drove 80km/hour in an 80km/hr zone barely touching my brakes and got 1 out of 3 badges. The app told me I was riskier than other drivers. They can use this false information to raise your rates.
I logged out of the app and definitely recommend against using this application , It feels like a scam
I have been a customer of Belair direct…
I have been a customer of Belair direct for a few years now. Everything seemed to be going well until I had to put in a claim after some intoxicated person ran into 2 of my vehicles that were parked in my driveway and totaled both of them. All I keep getting is excuses as to why it hasn't been resolved and that they can't get through to me but my adjuster had no problem contacting me at the beginning of the claim. When I try to call my adjuster she is NEVER available. I wouldn't even give them one star. I will be leaving this company as soon as this is resolved.
Wish I could just give a 0
Wish I could just give a 0, worst customer service, agent are slow to understand, slow to answer and don't seem to know their job at all
Improvement
I Love the belairdirect I've had them for 10 plus years, great customer service till today, after 20 years I got into an accident I backed into a car that I didn't see I called at 1:00 a.m. your Collision Department and got a wonderful person who walked me through the whole experience it was wonderful great customer service really personal just an amazing person. Today I got a call from the autobody shop saying I own them $700 okay news to me, we settle the bill weeks ago. I'm in New Zealand on holidays they wouldn't let me deal with this when I'm back. They said the insurance company sent me a check for that amount I said yes I did receive that I called the insurance company right away to see what the check was for and they said it was reimbursement for my deductible that I paid okay I deposited the check and went from there. I called the insurance company here today and they made me feel like a fool like an idiot their tone was not right. I work in customer service and I know our tone and approach is key and their approach was not right. I don't know how you're going to fix this but I'm really disappointed. I forgive you guys but I want you to address this.
