Misrepresented Product and Poor Customer Service

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!

I purchased an FN 502 from BFG Outfitters that was advertised and sold as new. When I picked it up from my FFL and inspected it at home, it clearly appeared used. The barrel was dirty with fouling, there was discoloration, and the slide had visible nicks. This was far beyond what I would expect from a simple factory test fire.

I tried to resolve the issue directly with BFG first. I emailed them with photos showing the condition of the gun, and followed up with another email a week later when I didn't hear back. Both emails were received and assigned support ticket numbers, but I never received any response.

After being ignored, I disputed the charge with American Express and provided the documentation. American Express reviewed the evidence and ruled in my favor, returning the payment.

Months later BFG finally contacted me and demanded that I return the gun or pay them the full purchase price. I contacted American Express again, and was told that the matter was closed, they found in my favor, and I was under no obligation to BFG.

When I told this to BFG, they reported the matter to the sheriff department. I was contacted by a detective and told that criminal charges would be filed if I did not pay the full amount. To avoid further escalation, I reluctantly paid the invoice, basically paying full price for a used and dirty pistol, under the threat of criminal charges.

This entire situation could have been resolved easily if BFG had simply responded to my original emails and addressed the condition of the firearm when I first raised the issue. Instead, they ignored multiple attempts to resolve the problem and escalated the situation in a way that should never have been necessary for a customer service dispute. Ultimately they got full payment for a used gun they falsely represented as new.

If you do use this company, make sure to inspect items carefully and be aware of how disputes may be handled by the owner.
