Buy premium products elsewhere

Apparently waste fittings for sinks cannot be used with hot water.

'Having reviewed the images provided, it appears that the waste fitting has been affected by exposure to high-temperature water from a Quooker (instant boiling) tap. When using boiling water taps, it is important that both the sink (to prevent potential glaze damage) and the waste fittings are protected from prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures'

I had two waste fittings. One has failed , the second is fine. They offered a % discount but this is clearly a manufacturing issues and the quality of the products from them are poor against the price. The customer service against the price point is not what id expect from a premium product too.

Id look for alternative vendors which is a shame given I'm based in the uk too.

Dear Philip

Thank you for your review. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that you feel disappointed — particularly as we aim to provide both premium products and a level of service to match.

We would like to clarify a couple of important points, as there may be some misunderstanding around the guidance provided.

Our waste fittings can be used alongside instant hot water taps, however this is dependent on simple precautions being followed. Boiling water should not be discharged directly into the waste, as prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can soften the protective lacquer. Once softened, the surface can then become vulnerable to marking or deterioration through normal use.

In response to your comment regarding one waste being affected and the other not — this is actually quite typical in these situations. The impact is not always uniform, as it depends on usage patterns, water flow, and how frequently boiling water is discharged in a particular area, rather than indicating a manufacturing defect in one item versus the other.

We would also like to reassure you that we have supplied a significant volume of these waste fittings with a very low incidence of issues (under 2%), and where problems do occur, they are most commonly linked to the conditions described above rather than product quality.

That said, we fully understand your frustration. While this scenario falls outside of warranty conditions, we did offer a substantially discounted replacement as a gesture of goodwill, as we always aim to find a fair resolution wherever possible.

We’re sorry that on this occasion we haven’t met your expectations, but we do appreciate your feedback and will continue to refine both our products and our communication to customers.

Disappointing Bidbury tap experience

Our Bidbury Amesbury Twin Lever Pewter Monobloc tap failed on installation, leaking from where the hot tail connected into the body of the tap. I can't upload a photo showing the tap was clearly at fault. However it was apparent to the naked eye that where the tap failed, the milling into the casting is very lop sided and ragged on the edge. Bidbury has blamed our plumber for over-tightening the tail. Our plumber did not overtighten the tail, he has 13 year's experience and never had this happen before. My husband has considerable knowledge of the tap and water fittings industry and has spent his career working in the water industry generally. Our claim with Bidbury has been dismissed without addressing the faults we have pointed out but they have relentlessly blamed our plumber. Buyer beware, we are out of pocket due to extra labour costs (our plumber needing to travel some distance to buy a temporary replacement tap on the day, install that tap and later return again to install a replacement Bidbury tap). But mercifully the intermediary we bought the tap through gave us a replacement tap at their own cost, despite Bidbury's assertion it was a plumber error. We dispute the latter. We would recommend you buy taps from a different manufacturer who doesn't take the easy option of blaming the plumber.

Dear Mrs Naismith. To clarify, our manufacturing team inspected your tap and found spanner/gripper marks on the tailpipes which proved they had been over tightened, causing the breakage. After manufacturing thousands of taps, we have never had this issue related to a manufacturing fault. We communicated all the way through the process and involved multiple teams to carefully investigate the reported issue. Even after our findings, the retailer provided a free replacement tap. We feel it’s incredibly unfair to give a 1 star review even if you were disappointed that we provided evidence contrary to your plumbers claims.

Great Products and Service by Bidbury Taps

We purchased two Amesbury Twin Lever Monobloc Kitchen Taps - Polished Nickel for our new kitchen last year. One of the hot tap handles had gradually become more and more wobbly so we contacted Bidbury Taps under our warranty. Richard in Customer Services was extremely helpful and clearly explained the steps to take to tighten the handle. After following his instructions the handle is now working properly. The Amesbury Taps are beautiful by the way. Thanks very much!

Bidbury Charlbury Rinse Tap

So delighted we chose the Bidbury Charlbury rinse tap in patinated brass to complement the boiling water tap in our new kitchen. They are a perfect match and the quality is obvious when you use the tap.
The after sales service and advice we received from Bidbury has been exceptional and would recommend them completely. Thanks.

I am required to do this review by…

Update - I disagree with Bidbury's response to my post.
Their email to register the warranty does indeed say "with your help in taking just a few minutes to leave a review about our services" but it also says "Once your feedback has been received, your free extended warranty will be issued".
This makes issuing the warranty conditional upon giving a review does it not?

I am required to do this review by Bidbury before they will issue their extended tap warranty (2 extended to 5 years).
The tap as delivered was not assembled correctly. Levers were up for on and horizontal for off.
It took a couple of phone calls and it turns out the tap was assembled incorrectly in the factory. The plumber and I had to take the end caps off and turn the taps on the splined shafts by 90 degress then turn the entire tap 180 degrees to get the hot and cold feeds on the right side. So annoying and time consuming for the plumber. I am still not sure the mixer element of the tap is working correctly.

Hi Martin

You are not required to leave a review before we issue the free extended warranty, we simply ask for feedback on our service. The wording in our request is 'with your help in taking just a few minutes to leave a review about our service'. This is incredibly important so we can obtain both good and negative feedback in case something has gone wrong. As in this case, you have highlighted an issue we need to investigate. With the description you have given, its likely that the hot and cold valves have just been put in on the wrong sides. This could have been quickly resolved by switching the valves.

We take such issues very seriously. The information has been passed back to our production team and we have expressed the importance of the products being built correctly.

We issue the extended warranty, whether we ultimately receive feedback or not. We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this will have caused. You will be pleased to see your free extended warranty has already been issued and should be received by email with in a few hours.

Great Product and Service

Delighted with our Bidbury taps and pullout spray we just bought for our holiday let cottage.
Brilliant quality and looks amazing.

I had a question about installation and the 5 year warranty. Refreshingly, I spoke to a real person, Paul I think his name was. He called me back the same day to check everything was ok.
Good to see a British owned manufacturing company with traditional customer service for a change.

Quality, service, empathy...exceptional

In life there are always going to be those little issues that arise and regardless of importance, its how they are dealt with that truly matters.

We supplied a Bidbury & Co. tap to a client, who reported a small drip when shut off. On the clients behalf, we reported this issue to Bidbury and to my shock, wanted to take complete control and deal with the client directly. Merely a few days following the initial complaint, my client contacted me to say the issue was rectified and they were over the moon with the efficiency of resolution.

In an age where empathy has become a dirty word, to find a supplier/manufacturer who genuinely cares, is rare and very welcome. When trying to run a small business, it is becoming tiresome spending all my waking hours firefighting supplier issues. So to have a supplier who wants to take ownership of issues and see through to resolution, is a breath of fresh air.

After being faced with shocking support from Bidbury's main competitor for countless years, I am more than impressed with the quality, but can now add their service to that mantle.

If you are in the process of designing your own kitchen and want a superior, traditional tap, you will not be able to fault the designs and quality on offer from Bidbury & Co. Likewise, if you are a kitchen design studio looking for a quality British tap manufacturer, look no further, you will not be disappointed.
