I recently purchased an MG4 Trophy from Big Motoring World in Peterborough and unfortunately my experience with their after-sales support has been very disappointing.
Within around two weeks of purchase, cracking appeared on the vegan leather driver’s seat. I obtained an assessment from a specialist upholstery repair company, who confirmed that the damage requires replacement of the entire seat panel at a cost of £225.
I contacted Big Motoring World in the hope of reaching a reasonable resolution, especially given how soon the issue appeared after purchase. However, they refused to contribute anything towards the repair, classifying the issue as “cosmetic wear and tear” despite the very short timeframe.
I fully understand that used cars may show signs of wear, but I do not think upholstery deteriorating to this extent within weeks of purchase reflects good quality or good customer care.
I also found the sales process quite pushy when it came to trying to sell their extended warranty products, which made the experience feel more focused on upselling than customer service.
The sales process itself was otherwise smooth, but based on my experience, I would advise buyers to inspect interior trim very carefully and not expect much flexibility or goodwill if issues arise shortly after purchase.

I decided to visit big motoring world Peterborough to buy a new car after my car was written off. The whole process from picking a vehicle to driving off was over 5 hours long.
There were niggling little things about the sales pitch, but they're inconsequential to the overall experience.
Sitting down with the sales rep, he went through the usual patter and tried to upsell. I decided to take out one of the sales packages after some bartering and a price was agreed. Low and behold when the agreement came out it was over £2/month more expensive per month. Someone from the sales/accounts office came out and said they couldn't really change it but we'd be compensated by receiving a GardX kit and GardX coating on all the interior, it just so happened that someone from the valet team was passing, so the office staff asked him to grab a kit and put it in my new vehicle.
I signed the paperwork and was on my merry way (this was a Saturday). On the Monday Night I got in the car and there was a smell in the car. It wasn't overpowering but it wasn't pleasant. A few days later, I needed to do a weekly shop, I opened the boot to put my shopping in the back and the smell hit me. The only thing in the boot at the time was the GardX kit. As I picked it up from the back of the boot I put my hand on the boot card/shelf (whatever you want to call it) and it was damp. The card on the particular model I have is a carpeted plastic & foam, it isn't absorbent. My natural assumption was that someone had opened something on the GardX kit and hadn't closed the lid properly as they put it back. The kit was dripping wet at the bottom, so I opened it, all of the seals were intact none of the bottles leaked when lightly squeezed, all of the bottles in the kit however were covered in condensation.
The only thing that happened between me checking the car over (and I had, had the boot card out, as the boot itself can be lowered) and me going into the back for shopping was the valet. As such, it would stand to reason that someone had put the GardX kit in a puddle when cleaning it, so I wrote to the after sales team. My response was essentially that it couldn't possibly have happened as it's not a complaint they've ever experienced and that the most likely issue was a problem with the boot seals and that I'd have to claim off of the warranty. I fully dispute this claim, as either side of the boot card it dips down into pockets, and seeing as water will always try to find the lowest level the pockets would have been wet, the parcel shelf was also bone dry. It just so happened that the same night that I received my response from after sales was also a night where we had monsoon rains in Northamptonshire, I've just checked the boot and it is bone dry, there is nothing on the parcel shelf.
While this isn't a complaint they've received before, I suppose there's always a first time for everything.

Karim was a lovely gentleman, he helped us choose the right car for our needs, gave us time to look at the car and a test drive. A few days later we went back and bought the car with a bit of haggling we was all happy. Thank you so much. Pleasant experience, staff were attentive but not pushy.

Firstly I am writing this having just taken delivery of my vehicle so it’s a review of the process and people. The chap who saw me through the process was Kieran at Peterborough. He did a thorough, professional job, wasn’t too pushy and was friendly and humorous. I was never going to be his best customer as I had no interest in the add ons that he was obliged to try and interest me in. However, he accepted this with grace. From there, the payment, paperwork and switch over was smooth. They prefer bank transfer but can take a card. Despite the heat everyone was cheerful and welcoming. Drinks were readily offered. Let’s hope the car now lives up to its promise.

Was very happy with the sale of the car, but the after sales was not what I was expecting when I had my issues with my new car. The long wait on the phone and then sent to northampton when I could have been sent to Kettering. Plus the issue with a missing wheel nut, I noticed on the 2nd day of having the car. I have just purchased a full set of locking wheel nuts. I have been reimbursed the money but thought it should have been dealt with a lot quicker.

The staff were polite and friendly. The test drive and purchase process were well organised and I didn’t feel pressured. After agreeing the purchase and part-exchange price the documentation and payment were processed promptly.

Very poor experience with Big Motoring World Peterborough.
I was asked to sign handover documents before being properly allowed to inspect the vehicle again, which makes their later reliance on “accepted as seen” highly questionable. I raised a cosmetic issue at collection and was assured it would be resolved, but this has not been followed through.
Customer service since has been dismissive, with little accountability or meaningful action taken.
I would strongly advise anyone to thoroughly inspect the vehicle before signing anything and get all assurances in writing.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend.

Beautiful, welcoming setting. Had booked an appointment time - they were expecting me and I wasn't kept waiting to discuss and see the car.
Had to wait quite a while for the final paperwork to be signed, which was shown us briefly on paper, but gone through and signed digitally, then confirmed on an email later. Seemed excessively lengthy process.
Disappointingly, I saw the car initially on a different site at a lower price, because bigmotoring world charge a £300 admin fee, which was not mentioned.

Truly terrible experience with this company that you should be aware of before buying from them. In February 2026 I spent £30k for a quality SUV hybrid after a very nice salesman looked after us well and offered the car we were looking for that was just in and not listed. It was promised to us valeted, fully charged and with a full tank of diesel when we were to pick it up.
That had to be 2 weeks later because cars sold must go off site the same month. We took a long train journey up to the site (Peterborough) The car was not valeted, fuelled up or had any charge in the hybrid battery. Having no other option we took the car. Only with one key because the other was likely to follow as the car was so new in.
Two days after the 150mile drive home the engine management light came on. I’d arranged a post purchase inspected with an independent Mercedes specialist so took the car to them to diagnose. It was a Solenoid fault relating to cooling of the lithium batteries. £540 to fix, and should be covered under warranty. I logged my warranty claim.
I was contacted by Big Motoring Assist some days later offering £300 toward the cost. When I asked why tis was (over 3 e mails) explained as their limit on labour at £85/hr and not paying for OEM parts. I can get the part half price off Ebay. 100%, confirmed in writing.
Over the next two weeks I tried to persuade Big Motoring assist that £120/hr was a fair rate (Halfords @ £115/hr and Mercedes @ £240/hr) and that buying my own parts off e bay was massively hazardous and unusual. They only found one firm who supposedly would do the job at their rate. I called them and they declined the job.
Big motoring assist then suggested I take the car from Brighton to Sheffield to do the work.
At this point a second raft of more serious. Battery related errors appeared and the car became completely unusable. Effectively dead on my drive, preventing the back up car from being used and not locking. At this stage I asked to return the car within my 30 days return period under consumer rights.
At this stage you get passed from pillar to post, and at every turn all people want to do is push you away or pass you on, No body, and I mean absolutely nobody will take ownership of a problem. The person you get an e mail from will never answer the phone to you. When they pass you to someone else it is often in another branch. The staff don’t speak to each other; you cannot copy them both into e mails and ever speak to them. Net result is it’s extremely hard to get answers, ownership, decisions made and it’s very easy for them to fob you off and excel at the worst customer experience I have ever encountered …. By some way
I sent 40 e mails and made 32 calls over a two-week period. It was suggested I tow it to a garage, but not which one or where because none will work for their rates or using the e bay supplied parts. It was also suggested I roll it off the drive onto the road. Which you cannot do with a dead 3-ton hybrid car … which would then be towed away from a controlled parking zone.
Finally, RAC removed the car to Enfield. Now only Enfield will speak to me as car is with them. They say car is fixed was just a flat battery due to not being driven much after they got it. The 150-mile trip home and daily use/charging excluded.
I advised I’d take the car back with £1000 toward a decent warranty… that was refused. Or the same model car £1,000 cheaper so I can buy a proper warranty for it. Also refused. Or a full refund plus compensation for the shocking experience I have had and lack of use of a car .. refused. Refund and not a penny more is all you will get …. If you are lucky.
The previous owner sold the car with both keys. Big motoring world lost of kept the other one.
The motoring ombudsman cannot/will not help. I spoke with them They will take 6 months to evaluate your claim to a point of investigating and then 6 months to investigate. If you accept a refund, you have no case. They also do not investigate service-related issues.
This company really are the pits. Just read the reviews … Buy a car from a smaller independent who offers a decent warranty, a private seller or a main dealer used. You may be lucky, but I suspect all sensible dealers offload their “pup” cars to Big Motoring World, and as other than the system held service history you will have no idea what work has been done it’s a huge gamble. Their warranty is a total con, useless…. You are affectively on your own…. Do not be fooled.

From initial phone call by the call centre who were very professional and supportive, then on entry to the Peterborough dealership after a 2 hour drive we were greeted by Karim who dealt with our enquiry professional and with courtesy. Although the options and ancillary benefits were offered, there was no hard sales just the benefits of the additional products. We were then handed over to Cameron who did the final paperwork and hand over very efficiently and answered any questions easily. Everyone at this dealership is a part of a great and polite team of this dealership and made us feel very welcome. The facilities were excellent and clean and drinks were also available on a hot day. Test driving a vehicle was very prompt and swift. Was definitely worth the long drive and we left purchasing an excellent vehicle at a great price. Wouldn't hesitate to come back in the future. Well done team Peterborough, keep up the super customer service!

From searching for a car to buying and then attending to car tax, what a wonderful stress free experience. Denzel is a welcoming friendly member of staff who looked after us and made sure we made an informed decision with no pressure. We were offered beverages and made to feel relaxed. Shamyaq was experienced and helpful and Cameron friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful experience from start to finish.

Aftersales is not good at all. Paid for warranty and purchased car in Feb 2026, still have no full warranty documents and wait... there are problems with the car and trying to sort it out is a nightmare. Number 25 in call queue every time you call is not good. Give them a wide berth. I wish I had.
The warranty docs are not in the app, as I have requested and said on 4 occassions. Now they have emailed me, after me requesting for the 4th time.
