⭐ 1/5 – Bosch | €800 battery dead after 5 years and ~1,000 km. Disappointing customer service.

I bought two electric bikes fitted with Bosch batteries on the same day, from the same store. Both batteries were used, stored and maintained under strictly identical conditions for 5 years.

The result today:
✅ One battery works perfectly.
❌ The other is completely dead — after only around 1,000 km.

This battery retails for around €800. At that price, with reasonable use and careful maintenance, you are entitled to expect far greater longevity.

To put things in perspective: I recently sold a golf trolley whose battery had not been used since at least 2020 — and it still works perfectly. A well-engineered battery holds up over time, even through extended inactivity.

The fact that two identical batteries, bought on the same day and used in exactly the same way, produced such different results raises a legitimate question about the consistency of Bosch product quality.

I contacted Bosch customer service to explain the situation. The response I received: "it can happen". No commercial gesture, no concrete solution.

I make no legal claims here — it is up to each person to assess whether the concept of a hidden defect may apply to their own situation. But as a consumer, I consider this response wholly inadequate given the price of the product and the legitimate expectations one is entitled to have.

I am sharing this experience in the spirit of transparency, so that future buyers can make an informed decision.

🔎 What to know before you buy: even when well maintained and barely used, a Bosch eBike battery can fail within just a few years. Factor that into your purchasing decision.

eFlow creates endless obstacles

eFlow creates endless obstacles - Don't install it!!
I have a. super nice new Batavus and by mistake I downloaded and connected the Bosch eFlow app.
Which means you can only activate the bike having the app open to connect.
That doesn't seem to be a problem. Right?

The bike and the app will not connect, especially when updates have been taking place. It is impossible to connect. Twice I have experienced while bike ng that the connection was shut off. Then you can't use the bike. You have to take out the battery, shut down your phone and app several times, and you may still not be able to connect and unlock the bike!
I simply despise the eFlow app, even Bosch, for making a inferior non-functioning piece of tech, but I am afraid to remove it, because then I will maybe never be able to unlock my new €3.000 Batavus super bike.

Do not buy a Bosch bike battery

The batteries are only guaranteed for two year although they state they should last for 10000 miles. Mine has only done 3000 miles and has completely died, but is over the two year guarantee. As I was away at the time I had to buy another battery, an eye watering £633. Bosch customer service is garbage and after 4 months offer me 50% against a new battery, pointless has I had bought another one as my bike would have been out of action for most of the summer. Proceed with caution when buying a Bosch battery or have a large bank balance

garbage service policies

I got a diagnostic through a local shop after having an error code on my bike. Bosch took far too long to respond and then they said to replace a part the shop doesn't have in stock. The shop will require me to pay labor costs for any work. I checked with another Bosch service and they said the same thing. What the hell does it mean to be a listed Bosch service center if you have to pay for warranty work. warranties are supposed to be free of charge. The whole situation is a total cluster as I couzld order the part online myself and do the install for less than the labor cost. Totally unacceptable service polices.

Poor Response to Warranty Claims

I'm afraid I have to echo the vast majority of the reviews on here. Bosch customer service and ability to supply replacement parts is dreadful. My 2 month old bike has been unusable for 30 days while I wait for a replacement battery.

Bosch E-Bike Service non existent

Unable to access the E-Bike Flow app.

The Cube Editor E Bike I paid over £2,500 is locked and Bosch E-Bike just keep sending a robot generated email with instructions that I have many times tried without success.

Now taking the bike to my local bike shop to resolve. Only used the bike twice, been told already to expect at least a month wait so that Bosch can unlock my bike.

Had I known the issue with this app and the control it has over various E Bikes would never have bought this Cube E Bike.

Service from Bosch E-Bikes is disgusting. I will be updating on this.

Terrible E-bike repair service

After Tredz have been trying to get my e-bike repaired for 6 weeks they have "apparently" been waiting for 4 weeks for the bike to be unlocked by bosch and been told to "BE PATIENT" I contacted them myself 30382762 on 02/10 and still not had a reply - DREADFUL SERVICE! BIKE STILL LOCKED!!!

Poor warranty support

My 2023 Cube Stereo Hybrid developed a cadence sensor fault on the 8th of August during a ride. This rendered the bike unridable as the motor provides power on and off every second. I took it back to the shop where I purchased it from and I have still not got the issue fixed.

My local bike shop are yet to receive any kind of support from Bosch regarding this. The issue is clearly demonstratable & repeatable, it is not an intermittent fault, but because the Kiox unit is reporting no error codes the robots on the support desk are refusing to deviate from their script.

I have owned the bike since December 2023 and so far been without it for just over 10% of that time due to faulty Bosch components and poor customer service from them.

Be aware of this when purchasing e-bikes powered by Bosch components.

Purchased a Trek e bike with the bosch…

Purchased a Trek e bike with the bosch motor. After 13 month it would not switch on and was returned to bike shop who "guessed" it was battery failue.

A new battery was ordered under warrenty. Six weeks and so far no battery. It has to come from the Netherlands!!!!!

I could get new one delived from ebay in 48 hrs.

So if your going with the Bosch system beware that the warrenty service from Bosch is very poor.

I also think that bike shops do not have the technical knowledge to repair e bikes, as I said, they guessed it was the battery failure......Could it be the wiring, motor or controller....thy didn't have the skills to find out.

Edit:

New battery has turned up... Bike still not working, now ordered a new motor

Another 6-8 weeks without bike.

Bosch CX Gen4 Motor Troubles

My Cube bike has a Bosch CX Gen4 motor. It has only done 800miles but is out of warranty.

I am a careful septagenarian fair weather rider.

I have error 510 and have been told that a sensor or sensors might have failed.

I have to extract and send the motor to a specialist repairer for analysis, however Bosch will not supply sensors or any motor parts to professional repairers or the public.

My only option would be a new motor at around £700 because of a £5 sensor failure!

Had I known this I would not have bought the bike.

Online posts indicate this is pretty common.

Think very carefully about buying a bike with these motors.

Outstanding Customer Service

I have a Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 fitted to my Haibike, the motor development a noise. I took to my dealer they tested it sent their findings to Bosch who immediately sent a new motor out and I got my bike back all sorted within the week ,,,, perfect !
This was all done outside of my warranty! All I can say is this is outstanding that Bosch will back their product! And willingness too look after their customers.

A big thank you to Bosch-ebike....

Indicated speed & assistance 3 km/h slower than actual EU limit.

After much research I eventually purchased myself a Haibike e-mountain bike fitted with the Bosch Gen 4 performance line CX. Unfortunately after several comparisons and rides with friends on e-Bikes fitted with the older 80nm Yamaha motors I was extremely disappointed with the Bosch motor. Not only was the indicated speed about 3km/h under the real speed but because of this the motor assistance was cutting out too soon compared to the other bikes. After numerous tests and swapping bikes and riders etc the Bosch fitted bike was definitely under performing compared to the other cycles and calibrated lower. The motor was also noisier. I contacted Bosch regarding these issues and the reply suggested that the methods I used to compare speeds was not accurate. They did say that a dealer could check the noise. I replied to by asking if a Bosch dealer could re-calibrate my motor but received no response. This means that when I now ride out with my friends who ride at the limit of motor assistance my motor is not assisting and I cannot keep up with them. One of the reasons I purchased an electric bike was on advice from my cardiologist as I have a heart condition. Pedalling constantly hard unassisted trying to keep up with my friends is not recommended. I feel that the customer support of Bosch e-Bike is very poor. If you want to keep up with your friends on Yamaha powered bikes I wouldn't recommend one fitted with a Bosch Performance Line CX.
