Customer service is terrible

Customer service is terrible. Conflicting information, and some agents are downright rude. Tried to setup IRA account. Now going to close everything. I wish I could give them a Zero.

Bread Financial needs to be sued...

They have no problem scamming you, charging you interest illegally, and they saying there is nothing they can do about it. Just passing you along to another department, telling you they will get back to you and never do. I found them through B&H Photo and unfortunately they scammed me out of over $400 in interest charges that they "can not refund" even though I was actively still on a 0 interest term.
Customer service is an absolute nightmare with very incompetent people. Wish they had aa zero star option.

Bread Financial App

I tried again today to use The Bread Financial App but of course doesn't work. I'm always receiving messages that they are having technical problems so you can't pay on there. So I go on to the accounts own website to pay my accounts so they are paid. Bread Financial needs to fix their constant "Technical Issues and Problems or get rid of the app.

Tried over and over to open an IRA CD

Tried over and over to open an IRA CD. It's an online bank The website doesn't function properly. I have a savings account. This would be another account. Filled in the information. Said it was emailing me a coupon code. Copied the code from email. Kept rejecting said it was wrong code. 3/4 of an hour on the phone with so-called customer service. Says they don't send coupon codes. Asked if I could send a screenshot. Refused. Gave up. Closing my account.

I have multiple issues with this…

I have multiple issues with this institution.
1. My monthly payments were set to $65. All of the sudden they charged me $2,829.94 - the full balance of my loan. This came out of my business checking account and I overdrafted. I called and was promised this was fixed. Several days later I got my money refunded, obviously I was charged a bank fee for this. So time out of my day to fix both their overdraft mistake and the fee that was their fault. Then, after the money had been returned, they charged this same amount to my same account AGAIN!!!! This is after I talked with them on the phone to fix it, after it had already been refunded, I was charged AGAIN. So more overdraft fees. And no money to run my small business. I cannot believe a company of this size would make such large mistakes several times. For people who are wealthier than me, I would fear they are just robbing you blind. So in addition to the stress caused from them charging $2.8k TWICE, I had to take time off of work (unpaid because I work for myself) to fix this issue, I’m losing money because of them.

2. Their loans in general are predatory. They set it up so that the min payment is far less than what’s needed to keep you from getting exorbitant fees. My loan was for $5k for laser eye surgery. I paid above the min payment every time, however I ended up with about $3k in fees because it wasn’t fully paid by the time they had chosen for the agreement. (trying to remember the timeline here but I think I realized the issue all of 2 days late and paid in full at that time). If they made the monthly payment the right amount, I would have more money to my name. Instead, I’m still living paycheck to paycheck, no thanks to these selfish fools.

I cannot believe I have had to dedicate this much time out of my life to fix problems made by this company.

Do not use this financial institution

Do not use this financial institution. Poor customer service. A retail vendor posted a refund credit to my card & BF cannot tell me what happened to it. They said they will investigate and take up to 90 days to resolve. Horrible service!

Dodged a bullet

Thank God, we've probably dodged a bullet here! We tried to open two CD accounts with Bread Savings, lured by their attractive rates. And I forgot to read their reviews...
Compared to other online banks their process seemed both amateurish and complicated: their ID uploading option did not function, had to do it all manually, then no trace of our submitted online applications whatsoever, and no ways to reach them to ask for an update or to please cancel that lenghty application -their Plaid authorization was swift though.
After more than a week we ended up receiving a physical letter in our mailbox, asking us to send them photocopies of several sensitive documents also only by mail, instead of enabling secure messaging, or another online option. Strange online bank:)
And of course during all this time, their customer service was also completely unreachable by phone. What a waste of time.
Happy not to be a client.

1 star is a compliment

1 star is a compliment. Im very disappointed with the handling of my account. Customer service speaks over you and repeats themselves without even trying to resolve your account issue. Communication about accounts needs a better system in place. I have to wait for my credit card to come in the mail to even establish an online account. Its been 8 days now and still waiting for it. This will be my first and last account with Bread Financial.

Not the best customer service

If I have to say what is wrong with Breadfinancial two things, first being communication on their end has been poor I get it it's a bank so I expected a delay, but a week later no response, and course I sent a follow up requesting an update regarding of why they don't do pre-paid phones course no response. Second reason was the customer service not living to the standard that I expect it to be, wished they could have done more, and I decided to not use Breadfinancial in any stores that require loans for monthly payments. All of this was for Transition Bikes.

Zero stars should be an option

If zero stars were an option, that's what I'd rate Bread Savings. I applied online to open an account in response to their emailing me touting their affiliation with AAA where I'm a member.
I gave Bread Savings all my confidential information including a link to my funding bank. I NEVER HEARD ANOTHER WORD FROM THEM!
Multiple phone calls to their toll free number ended in a quagmire of auto recordings. Once I got through to a human being (Robin); Robin didn't know what was going on with my appication which she confirmed had been received, but she gave me another number to call. She also promised that I would get a notice in the mail explaining the bank's action. The number Robin gave me constantly rings busy and nothing ever came in the mail.
Don't waste your time with this bank. Even if you succeed in opening an account, their total lack of communication suggest you'll have trouble in getting your funds when you need them.

Bread Financial doesn’t give a damn

I applied for a AAA credit card issued by Bread Financial. I waited a month and it never showed up. Four days ago I called customer service and was ignored. I was told it was “in the mail.” I called today and wasted more than hour on the phone with incompetent agents. I was told the card was delivered two weeks ago. The agent four days ago blew me off, and never bothered to check her records. I argued with the agent today who insisted that the card was delivered by the USPS. When I asked for a supervisor the call was cut off. I called again and went through several supervisors. At each step I was told that they would not expedite delivery of a new card, and could only receive the card through USPS. I found the entire experience extremely frustrating and my blood pressure was through the roof. Bread Financial is not prepared to work with customers. They are totally incompetent!

Horrible mistreatment of a disabled elder

Horrible experience attempting to get a replacmenet card. Has been 9 months of attempts all because their system messed up a address confirmation and flagged it as an address change. Even when it was pointed out their system messed up, the refused to fix it. POAs are worthless because you cannot order a replacement on their behalf. My other is in her 80s, nonverbal and does not do well with new technology. They also don't send out any letter with the reason which is a violation. Ralph Andretta needs to do better with since he is the CEO of this company. Shame on them for treating an elderly customer of 16 yrs this way.

Absolute garbage company

Absolute garbage company. It is nearly impossible to initiate a dispute and when you do, the try their best not to help. I was told wait 90 days and watch the mail. Something SHOULD arrive. Not 100%, but SHOULD. I had email proof of a dishonest merchant that denied the transaction and Bread did nothing.

I tried opening a CD with Bread Savings…

I tried opening a CD with Bread Savings and had a mixed experience.

On the positive side, the application itself is fairly simple and the rates are competitive compared to other online banks.

However, the user experience has some major drawbacks.

The biggest issue for me is that Bread forces you to fund the account before you can fully set things up (like beneficiaries). I prefer banks that let you configure everything first and fund later — this feels backwards and unnecessarily risky.

I also tried opening a savings account just to test their system before committing more money, and the application was declined without any explanation. That doesn’t inspire confidence.

After that, I received emails pushing me to fund the account immediately, even though I wasn’t comfortable proceeding yet. It feels a bit aggressive.

From what I’ve seen online, my experience isn’t unique. Some users report account access issues, poor communication, or difficulty managing CDs — especially around maturity and withdrawals. For example, one user said:

“they make it difficult to get your money out of your CD”

At the same time, not everyone has problems — some people report smooth long-term usage. So it seems inconsistent.

Personally, I’d only consider Bread if the rate is significantly higher than competitors. Otherwise, there are better options with smoother onboarding and more control.
