Britbox App is Awful
The issue with Britbox has nothing to do with the content and everything to do with the quality of the app. Some shows I can simply not play, there is a playback error. And most buffer for so long, I have to shut off my TV (Samsung smart TV) and unplug my TV for about 10 seconds. My router is less than 20 feet away, and this happens with no other device on in the house. I just don't get it and Britbox customer service is useless.
Repeatedly failed to cancel my sub
I cancelled this subscription in January with an email to confirm. However they have continued to charge me in the subsequent months. I have cancelled again, and waiting to hear back from them about a refund. I have to email all my communications.
Failure to cancel on request immediately is total failure for any streaming service.

Love the concept and there are loads of my favourite shows there but the app is simply appalling, sort it or abort it.
App is so bad it's unwatchable a lot of the time!
I've been a Britbox subscriber for a few years now and I keep hoping that the app will be improved and updated but I've seen no sign of that happening, sadly.
I quite like the content, for its nostalgic value, but honestly the actual app is absolutely bloody awful! It's disgracefully bad. It is CONSTANTLY going wrong in one way or another!
Examples:
1. I open the app (using Amazon Firestick) and it doesn't load, instead it tells me that I have no Internet connection. That is nonsense. I have a FTTP broadband service which is in full working order! When this happens, I have to exit the app and reopen it, then sometimes it miraculously opens, sometimes it doesn't. I often give up and watch something on Netflix instead.
2. I open the app and it opens but doesn't show the home page. It asks me to log in (but I'm already logged in!) so I click on "log in" and it says "are you sure you want to log out?"! No! I just want to watch the next episode of the series I've been watching. So I've worked out that when this happens I have to press the back button, which then brings up a home page, but without the "continue watching" section. So I then go to the menu and then search for the series I'm watching, find it in the search. Sometimes it knows which one is my next episode, but other times it takes me to episode 1 of series 1.
3. Often, when the above happens I simply cannot get to the next episode I want to watch. The app seems to freeze on the first episode and all the other series are greyed out and not clickable.
This is a truly appalling service! What a shame. The idea is a good one, a lot of the content appeals to me - but it's so often inaccesible. Please sort this out Britbox!

Cancelled since August and they still keep taking my subscription. I’ve got all the proof of this I need so I am now taking this further and seeking legal advice. They keep ignoring my requests and emails and not dealing with my queries.

Great idea, poor execution
The idea is great but the execution is abysmal. The app doesn't work properly on Apple TV or on a regular Smart TV. The site doesn't work properly either. I signed up for a free trial but received no trial. I was told I had to subscribe first. So I subscribed and then I was told I can't get a trial because I am now a subscriber. There are only a few series with Swedish subtitles. There's no Swedish site. You can only pay using a Swedish credit card, so if you have a digital wallet, you're out. Their customer service is one of the worst I've encountered. You can't create profiles and if you try to access an episode in another season, the app often stops working. So you sometimes have to watch something from ep 1 s 1 to watch it at all.
There are other subscription services that have the same series (with subtitles) along with a lot of other content and many more features for about the same amount of money.
In conclusion, great potential but they missed the mark completely.

Please be aware that this company renew yearly subscriptions automatically and despite consumer regulations do not let the account holder know. They have taken a subscription from my account and despite the Britbox subscription being cancelled have still not refunded my money. Customer service personal are advised to block and quote GDPR. Trying to stop them from taking payments out of my bank account as my son got me a subscription. I had to cancel the subscription to get the card information off their site. Once the subscription is up I won't be renewing it. If I can't speak to someone to fix things than I don't need it!

Britbox are proving very hard to get away from, or Nat West Bank are just as bad?
Since April 2020 when I cancelled the 7 Day Free Trial, Britbox without fail, ask Nat West Bank for £5.99 each month.
I say they 'Ask' , as it is neither a Standing Order or Direct Debit, it is according to Nat West Bank - NWB from now onwards- a Card payment, the same as if you've bought something online from eBay.
NWB get a request for payment by card every month from Britbox and pay it, if there is nothing in my account (I don't have an overdraft) NWB pay it when there is.
NWB have been doing this since April 2020, I do get a payment back when I complain, I have even filled in dispute forms for NWB - they have a tick box type form for online cancellation disputes for streaming services- Britbox told me at the beginning of the issue that as I am unable to accesss an account online that NWB should block any further payments!
Back and forth... And now with ITV X and BBC iPlayer offering a lot more than they did just before the Pandemic, Britbox still appear to be operating but are uncontactable...
I cancelled the Free Trial way back in 2020, the reason being that, the majority of the programs I hoped to watch were not supported with SUBTITLES.
NWB continue to pay Britbox and Britbox continue to ask for and accept payment, I had hoped initially that I would receive a service that was supporting of my impairment - hearing loss- but it seems that they are just as uncaring as anyone else when it comes to accepting money from people with disabilities!
Especially when many people were housebound during the Pandemic...

Shocking scam to take your money. Signed up for the free trial, was not able to log in, password reset doesn’t send an email. Contacted customer service who basically said, tough. They’ve charged me for a years service and I’ve not even been able to sign in, you can’t cancel if you can’t sign in and customer service won’t provide any guidance other than ‘tough luck, hope you have a nice day’. Avoid, it’s a disgraceful scam and a shocker that the BBC and ITV are involved in it. Ashamed to be British.

Don't trust Britbox with your bank details!
I took a Britbox trail years ago and found it wanting so cancelled.
A few months later the Britbox subscription reappeared on my account. I demanded the Halifax recover the fraudulent payment.
Now, years later, a Britbox subscription has reappeared on my credit card account.
Again, I've told Halifax to block the payments and recover the fraudulent payments demanded by Britbox.
