Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 111 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about significant difficulties with the online booking process and unhelpful customer service representatives who completely failed to properly resolve their flight issues. Many people also experienced unexpected extra charges, hidden service fees, and extremely rigid cancellation policies that made modifying travel plans a very frustrating ordeal. Some reviewers were happy with the fast assistance provided by agents and appreciated receiving smooth flight modifications when their travel schedules suddenly changed. A few consumers found the customer support team helpful when managing specific reservation adjustments and taking advantage of quick price matching guarantees.

Smooth Experience

I did a reservation in Rice Lake Wisconsin and Duluth through Capital One Travel and everything went smooth.

I was able to redeem my miles with no problem.

It would be great if there is a phone app, other than that it was good.

Humanless Corporation

It's Capital One. I was totally expecting to be f*cked over by a giant corporation that does not care about humans, but holy moly. The portal is awful. I received an error message after modifying the dates on my flight. I then redid the modification and received the same failed transaction message. Found out 5 days later that apparently I was charged. In those 5 days, my plans changed. I spoke to a customer service representative who lied to me and told me they couldn't see my mods or error messages rendered, then apparently they could (1 hour into convo), then told me that whenever ANY customer modifies their flight info, the portal ALWAYS sends an error message and you just have to hope it goes through. I spent 4 hours and talked to 6 different people with Capital One Travel only to lose 700 dollars on these tickets that I had to cancel. Apparently, after YOU PAY for seat selection, they don't refund you that amount. I cancelled this flight and incurred not only the 500 cancellation fee (outrageous) but the additional 210 I paid for seat selection, I did not get back. I would NOT recommend this service. The point value is also not that great.

I lost track after 8 agents couldn't…

I lost track after 8 agents couldn't help. I think there were a total of 12 who couldn't get my trip from Newark to Mali booked. The agents said my card wouldn't work and the highest level supervisor said it was the travel site. CapitalOne Travel was put on earth so we could ask for help when we don't have enough frustrations. I'm not going to Mali or anywhere with their involvement.

Never ever use this service!

If you read this, never EVER use this service. They allow you to use points and make buying things easy enough, but their service after the moment of sale is depressingly bad - almost as if on purpose.

We bought plane tickets that we needed to cancel because of medical emergency. We got approval from both airlines, but Capital One Travel did nothing. They said they needed evidence of the medical concern, but then said there was no way to cancel with a refund for medical reasons. Every interaction was full of contradictions and lies. It's denigrating to talk to them.

Finally, I went through the airlines and brute forced a refund from one. Then Capital One said they had to "investigate and confirm" the refund even though the airline signed off on it. They refused to pursue a refund from the second airline, all the while pushing me to buy additional services like hotels and car rentals for a trip we were trying to cancel.

The end result is that Capital One Travel is one step award from a cartel. They hold all the cards once you book with them and won't do a single thing to support to you after the purchase. I will never, ever use this service again under any circumstances, and you shouldn't either.

Capital One Travel booked wrong room with hotel

We booked a hotel through Capital One Travel for our May Cancun trip. When we showed up at the hotel, we were told that the room reserved for us does not match the one we booked. Our booking was for a large room, whereas the hotel has us down for a small room. We needed to have the large room, so I got on the phone with Capital One Travel. Long story short, Capital One Travel told me to pay the hotel the price difference and Capital One will refund it to me. I did so after being on the phone with them for over 2 hours. We were tired and irritated at that point.
Fast forward to today, I checked my rewards account and noticed that they removed travel points for what they refunded me. When I was in conversations with Capital One while in Cancun, they did not mention that miles would be deducted. So I called Capital One and spoke to a total of 5 representatives, over one hour and 40 minutes! (Exasperated). The final representative told me to contact the hotel. I told her that it doesn't make sense, since I don't have an issue with the hotel. I politely told her that I can't continue this call any longer and thanked her for the effort. So in summary, I wasted so much time and effort again with Capital One due to their mistake. I'm quite disappointed with their system and customer service.

Capital One Travel Agent

i used Capital One Travel to booked a Hotel, so that i can used my credit. When i called the Hotel to confirm my reservation, they can not find my reservation. So i called the Capital One Travel Customer Service, (MELISSA her name with an Indian accent). She told me she can not connect to the Hotel's Customer service, because it's night time). It's not night time, i'm calling here in the US at 11am ( the Hotel that i booked was only 2 hours away from me). When i asked MELISSA, the agent to connect me to her Supervisor, she just hang up on me. ( so rude).

Beware of CapitalOne Travel

I had an incredibly disappointing experience using Capital One Travel. I booked a hotel through their platform, using all of my points plus $1,800 in cash. Within just a few hours of booking, I realized I needed to change my travel plans and would no longer be able to take the trip. I immediately called to cancel the reservation and request a refund.

While I understood that the reservation was technically nonrefundable, I found it completely unreasonable that there was no flexibility whatsoever - even though it had only been a few hours since I booked and no services had been rendered. What followed was two weeks of frustrating back-and-forth with Capital One Travel. I was repeatedly told they were "checking with the hotel" and that I would have an update in 72 hours. Those updates never came unless I initiated the follow-up myself.

After two weeks of chasing down answers, I was finally told there would be no refund - no credit, no rescheduling option, no points returned - nothing. I could not even place the reservation under a friends name so they could use the room. I am now out $1,800 and all of my points with absolutely nothing to show for it.

This experience has left me incredibly disappointed, not just with the hotel's policy, but more importantly with how Capital One Travel handled the situation. It's unacceptable that a travel company and hotel can simply take your money and points and provide zero service in return. I expected more accountability and customer support, especially from a major credit card company like Capital One.

I will never book through Capital One Travel again, and I will be moving all of my accounts away from this company. I would urge others to proceed booking any travel through Capital One Travel with caution.

Oh how I wish I had seen this site and…

Oh how I wish I had seen this site and all these terrible reviews before I signed up for a Capital One credit card. I'm not just disappointed in the travel booking site but in the card itself. I purposely looked for a credit card I could use for all the travel plans I had lined up for this year. The first trip I took, I learned the lesson the hard way that I only receive 5 times the points if I use Capital One travel to book. The second trip I used points and Capital One travel to book my rental car. The cost was $229 for the car rental so I only had a few dollars to pay out of pocket. When I get to the car rental center in Phoenix, my bill is $350. Now $72 of this was because I chose to pre-pay gas but $200 of this was an drop off fee because I was renting it at PHX but dropping it off at LAX. That was right in my trip plans when I booked the car. I'm pretty sure I should have been made a aware of that substantial fee ahead of time. I'm not even sure what the other $77 worth of fees were. Interestingly, the car rental lady tried to tell me all the extra fees were because Capital One uses a third party, Hopper, to make payments and they must not have made enough of a payment. (I showed her my screen that said I paid $229 and she showed me her screen that showed Hopper only paid $101.74.) This makes me think Capital One travel is overcharging us and pocketing the difference. DON'T USE this credit card company or their travel site! One big scam. When I called Capital One to question what had happened while I was still at the airport, the CS rep said that my reservation said there would be "airport fees" that I would have to pay at check-in. More than my reservation cost in "airport fees" was way more than my expectation.

Aweful. Will never use them again. Spent hours on the phone with an easy solution, move my daughter on her honeymoon to the room I booked and have a confirmation number for. Why it took hours I will never know. It was just aweful. So disappointed.

Lack of communication from CapOne…

Lack of communication from CapOne Travel has left me $1500 poorer! I booked a car rental through them but was denied service by Europcar as I didn’t have an IDP. No notice was given to me that Europcar would absolutely require this as other agency I’ve rented with in the past 40 years have not asked for an I DP. So I disputed my charge but am being stonewalled by CapOne Travel. Poor customer service! Am going to cancel my card.

FYI, a one night reservation or 7 night, no flexibility

FYI, read the small print. I had a situation where I made a two night reservation. Something came up and I needed to cancel the second night 45 hrs earlier. With Capital One, a reservation for 1 night, or 7 is one reservation. They told me I missed the cancellation window and had to pay for both. I called the hotel Friday night, told them I had to cancel Sunday but Capital One would not allow it. The hotel told me "have them call us, we'll make it happen" 2 min later I called Cap One, gave them the info and stayed on the line with them while they called the hotel. Cap One rep said person at the hotel they were talking with claims to have had "more experience" than the person I talked to. Thus, what I was told was not correct. They would allow me to cancel the reservation and re-book for one night though. Problem was, one night now cost more than two! Word of warning, if you start a stay with Capital one and decide to cut it short, even with more than 24 hrs notice, expect to pay the full cost of your trip. No flexibility at all. I asked Cap One rep if this was same for a airfare that may have to be modified on short notice. "Unfortunately yes Sir" was his reply. I must say, Capital One rep "Sebastian" was very sympathetic and professional.

Policies are 10x more restrictive than the airline

I would give ZERO stars if I could. I’ve only booked two trips so far via the travel portal and they have both been an absolute DISASTER. Warning: their policies are 10x more restrictive than the actual airline. I regret not booking directly with American Airlines.

1) I purchased a $700 ticket for a friend (that was refundable as flight credit) and she needed to cancel. I canceled it, and only AFTER I canceled, does it state that the flight credit can only be used towards one booking and that the remainder would be forfeited. Booking with American directly, however, allows you to apply the credit toward any amount of trips. So now I’m STUCK with having to find a ~$700 trip within a year or else I’m at a loss.

2) When booking with American Airlines directly, even Basic Economy flights are refundable as travel credit. THIS IS NOT TRUE WHEN BOOKING WITH CAPITAL ONE. With capital one, you forfeit your ENTIRE payment if you cancel. No credit, no refund, NOTHING. This isn’t communicated at purchase either, they only bring it up afterward.

I’ve learned my lesson and will cancel my card after this horrible experience. Always book direct with the airline and NEVER through Capital One travel.

Capital One failed to disclose additional hotel fees

I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience booking through Capital One Travel. I reserved a stay at the Gold Coast Ambassador Collection, and was shocked to be charged an additional $89 per night for a so-called “hotel benefits package.” This added over $390 to my stay and included only 6 bottles of water per night, two well drink tickets, and two breakfast buffet tickets — none of which were worth the cost.

What’s most frustrating is that Capital One Travel never disclosed this substantial nightly fee at the time of booking. This lack of transparency is unacceptable. As a customer, I rely on Capital One to provide accurate pricing and clear information — not hidden charges that surface only after check-in.

The quality of the food, drinks, and room did not come close to justifying the inflated costs. I feel misled by both Capital One Travel and the Gold Coast Ambassador Collection, and I would not recommend booking this property — or any property — through Capital One Travel until this issue is addressed.

Capital One Travel is a disaster

Capital One Travel issued me an unusable ticket. I got a ticket using the name on my passport but my business account is connected and uses my middle name. Somehow, the portal booked under my middle name. I spent over four hours on the phone with them. They were unable to fix the name which made the ticket unusable. They also refused to reissue the ticket with the correct name. I begged them to cancel and refund me which they resisted for hours. I will actively warn people against using this “perk”

Horrible

Horrible. Booked a flight through the app first time. Got kicked off mid booking. When I went back in, it had a erased what I had started booking which was a trip in June when I went back to the portal I did didn’t realize it had changed my flights to July. When I received confirmation from the airline, it had the wrong dates so I went to check and it was booked incorrectly, my fault for not reviewing better.
When calling to get help, there’s literally no refund or modification option whatsoever for the tickets. I also lost my $250 travel credit that 1 gave me. Will not be using again.

Capital One agent was not able to help…

Capital One agent was not able to help me make my reservation. The Hotel's website included breakfast in it's price. The Capital One Travel website did not include breakfast and the price was exactly the same. I called Cap One to see if they could price match the hotels website with an included breakfast and they could not. I thought price matching was a feature of Cap One. Apparently NOT!! I think that this is one of the ways the avoid giving out the 5X points!!! Terrible!

Price drop protection scam…

They have a travel price drop protection. But it only last 10 days , and I found that out only after the fact. The price dropped and they would not care. Even after speaking to a supervisor called Alex , he simply would not do anything about it. Keep that in consideration people

Just another 1Stsr

Looks like I am late to the party w my One Star review.

Customer service has nice enough people but there is a language barrier in many instances. That’s on Cap One and not on someone who is working to better themselves and their family. Train them

They if a problem happens they are not empowered to fix the problem. That’s also on Cap One.

We bought cancellation insurance for our trip. 3 rooms in Honolulu. A work issue came up and my son in NYC had to postpone his arrival. Our option is to cancel the whole reservation or eat a room and this happened the night before we left and one reason we bought insurance. “You signed an agreement w these terms somewhere in a 10-20 page document.

They do not have your back. Beware!
