HISTORY OF COMPANY In October of 1932, during the height of the Great Depression, Fred Lipp came from Cincinnati, Ohio to open a floor-covering store in downtown Fort Wayne on West Wayne Street between Harrison and Calhoun streets. The store was moved to 115 West Jefferson just a few years later and was incorporated in 1941. After a disastrous fire in the early 1940’s the store was rebuilt on the same spot and stayed there until the early 1960’s, when it moved to 330 West Jefferson Street. At that time, the store was called Standard Rug and Linoleum Company. Fred’s son Stan worked part-time in the store as a youth and came in to the business on a full-time basis on January 1, 1960. In 1968, Stan took over the store from his father who was retiring for health reasons. On June 9, 1969, the name of the store was changed to Carpetland USA as it became the first franchisee of a soon-to-expand group of full service floor covering stores. By that time, there was no longer a linoleum product made in the United States, so a name change was needed anyway. In 1973, the store was moved to its present location on West Washington Center Road, in the first building owned by the family. During the 1980’s Stephen Lipp started to work part-time in the business just as his father had done before him. After several years of training in the Carpetland USA organization, Stephen returned to Ft. Wayne to take over the family business, marking the third generation of the Lipp’s in the same family business in Fort Wayne. While this store is one of the oldest family owned and operated businesses in the State of Indiana, the owner’s “hands on” every day personal guidance and attention to even the smallest detail ensures that customer service and satisfaction come first. Through our dedicated service to the community and an unwavering focus on our customers, our business has continued to grow and remain vital. It is against that backdrop that we welcome you to CarpetOne.

Had a new home built, flooring and tile by carpet one

Had a new home built by Westport. They subbed the flooring and tile work to carpet one of fort Wayne. Parts of the tile work has been done four times. It is still a mess in some areas. They keep sending the same person out to fix it. Also, our vinyl flooring is a roller coaster ride. Bumps and dips everywhere. No high spot grinding or low spot filling in was performed. I believe all vinyl flooring manufactures recommend this to be done. I've talked to salesman at carpet one and he stated he has done a lot of business with Westport homes and that is who pays him. Ultimately I paid Westport for a new build and they paid him with my money. I'm assuming the home builder is more important than the home buyer in the eyes of the salesman and carpet one. If I am wrong, have someone other than the salesman come by and take a look.

The Carpet is great! Service is poor!

The Carpet is great!

The service man was not the greatest.
First the older man that came out to measure didn't but two words measured and left.
Then when they came to install the older gentleman called and asked if there was any carpet still on the floor. Which myself and my husband had already removed everything except a 2 inch or less strip around the edges to cover the tacks. We moved all the furniture and got rid of the old carpet prior to them coming. Anyways, We told this at the place of business when we ordered the carpet and the measurement man saw as well. Well, my husband told the older man that there was just the small strip around the edges. He proceeded to tell my husband in not the best tone that he needed to remove that carpet before he got there. Which was not part of the deal. then when they came the older guy asked my husband for a towel or a rug to put his tools on. My husband told him that he should bring his own and that we don't have anything that isn't nice for him to put his tools on. He told my husband he has too many other things to put in his van then bring a towel for his tools to protect our house. Rude don't you think. So then he asks if he can bring our outside rug in our house to put his tools. again no. It is an outside rug you can leave it out there and put your tools on it. Then later while he is doing our brand new carpet he decides to bring in a fountain pop and sit it on our wood trim of our fire place in the middle of the livingroom. never bothering to ask if it was ok. leaving a wet ring on the wood and who does that? It is our new carpet and your bringing a drink on it with a easy pop off lid. The last thing we both found very weird. is with the size of our living room there should have only been one seam in the main part of the living room and he could have cut our the piece for the very small hall part off the second roll. The small hall has 4 seams and the our livingroom has multiple seams. he did it in strips instead of one bigger piece. The carpet looks and feels great. However I am worried about all the seams, especially in the little hall from the kitchen to the livingroom. That is a high traffic area and I hope all those seams don't cause any issues.

LIVID!!!

I am beyond angry at this point! They lost our flooring, took us off the schedule, not just once but TWICE, lost our paperwork, and are WAY behind what we were promised! I've heard nothing but excuses. I would never choose to work with Carpet One again! I will definitely be telling everyone who will listen how awful this whole experience has been!

RE: I'm not sure what you were told, but that is simply not true. I have not said anything derogatory to anyone. I said that I was getting angry. I did not name names or cuss. I agree that that kind of behavior would not be acceptable. I was definitely told the paper work was put in a different file and it was not where it should have been. The actual people doing the flooring are very nice. We told them we appreciate them and the job they have done. I think there may be two sides to the same story here. I'm actually a very nice person.

P.S. When we signed the papers, we were told all of the material was in stock. We were also told it was lost for two days. I am just very disappointed and frustrated.

Carrie,

We are glad that the install went well and that the installers did a good job for you. As one of the oldest family owned and operated businesses in the State of Indiana, we take customer service very seriously. It’s unfortunate that there was a miscommunication about the order. Please contact us directly if you have any additional feedback.

Sincerely,

Carpet One Floor & Home, Fort Wayne
