Avoid
Well, first of all, I rang up the garage because I was interested in an Audi A5. They agreed that I should come and see it. The car wasn’t in the showroom and was at another location, which was fine since it was getting some work done.
After a few days, I agreed to go ahead and purchase the car. I mentioned a few things that needed doing to the car and, in their defence, they did fix some of them. One of them was the A/C, which wasn’t blowing cold air, only hot air. They fixed that. Two rear tyres needed changing; one had been done, and the other one would need changing soon. From my understanding, on a four-wheel-drive car, you need to change the tyres in pairs, although I could be wrong about that.
I part-exchanged my car, and we agreed on a price over text.
The day came when I went to pick up the car. They mentioned that one of their staff had taken the car for a test drive just to double-check for any knocks, etc. I saw the car parked behind the garage, but I ignored it.
While they were taking my car (the one I was part-exchanging), I was on the phone to the insurance company. After about a 10-minute drive, they came back saying that the timing chain on my car needed doing and that they were going to knock £1,000 off the value of my car. I had never heard it rattle, but since a “mechanic” had mentioned it, I agreed and, silly me, paid the £1,000 there and then.
On the drive home, the Audi was perfect. After just one day of owning it, I noticed that one of the wheels had a wheel nut missing. The car was unsafe to drive and, as far as I’m aware, this would be a straight MOT failure. I mentioned this to the garage, but they ignored my message. Fine, I thought, I’ll sort it myself.
When I got the car, the washer fluid was low, so I topped it up. I drove about 10 minutes down the road and the washer fluid light came on again. Weird.
I topped it up again, drove down the road, and noticed it was leaking out. I mentioned this to the garage, and they wanted a video, so I took one and sent it to them. No response.
I messaged them again. No response. Again. Still nothing.
I had owned this car for five days at this point, and it had already been an awful experience.
Remember when I said a colleague of theirs had taken the car for a drive? Well, there is now a knocking noise when turning. I mentioned this to the garage and, once again, I was ignored.
I also mentioned that the driver's window might need adjusting because it makes a horrible whistling noise while driving. Again, I was ignored.
I guess after five days of owning a car that I bought from a “reputable garage” — a garage that supposedly looks after its cars and fixes whatever needs doing — I can say they are the complete opposite.
I wouldn’t recommend this garage to anyone. I felt welcomed right up until the minute I signed the papers. After that, communication has been practically non-existent.
Save yourself the hassle and stay away.
