Follow AFTA process to get your refund

Finally received my refund! Followed AFTA complaint process of sending formal letter of demand to CMF to provide refund within 21 days. Refund arrived a couple of days before the deadline. Thanks Ollie and Sean for advice on this forum. After lots of emails back and forth for over 2 years with promises of a refund and then 6 months of no responses from CMF, then trying to go through my bank to no avail, this process worked. State in letter that if refund is not received by the specified date, a formal complaint will be lodged with AFTA. If no refund received, lodge the complaint with AFTA.

REFUND RECEIVED!

I have just received my refund from Checkmyfares through AFTA by following the guidelines outlined by Ollie on 24 May 2022- thank you Ollie! Quick and easy process I wish I'd known about 2 years ago. Do yourself a favour and follow the step by step instructions and you'll finally get your money back from these thieves.

They shouldn’t be operating in this…

They shouldn’t be operating in this industry. I received confirmed tickets from them to fly from Adelaide to Bangkok through Kuala Lumpur. When I got my boarding passes, to my surprise, flight from KL to Bangkok has been changed to next day. Malaysian airlines have communicated this to CMF a month ago, they never bothered to notify us. We were in KL overnight with young family, no where to stay.
Shame on them, they still haven’t responded

REFUND SOLVED

REFUND SOLVED
We just received our refund which we have been chasing for two years. Here’s how we did it:
1. Wrote a formal complaint to CheckMyFares (email)
2. Waited 21 days for CMF respond (per formal requirements) (obviously no response…)
3. Submitted a complaint against CMF with AFTA attaching the formal complaint and all other correspondence (two years of emails). Go to ATAS . com / complaint
4. AFTA then contacted CMF directly (see below confirmation following the complaint being submitted with AFTA)
5. Refund appeared in our account after about a month.

Thank you for your email and evidence that you have submitted a formal complaint to Checkmyfares.com.

In the first instance, AFTA have contacted the ATAS member to allow them the opportunity to respond.

Next Steps
AFTA may require further information from you to complete an assessment.
At this time, no further information is required.

Please note: If you take or have taken any actions outside of the ATAS complaint resolution process (for instance lodged the matter to consumer affairs) you must advise AFTA immediately. Such actions may affect the way your complaint is handled and your eligibility for review. To understand how AFTA manage complaints please refer to the ATAS Code of Conduct.

Decision Process

In accordance with the ATAS Code of Conduct the ATAS Compliance Manager may take the following actions in its review of your complaint.

(a) The ATAS Compliance Manager must advise the complainant and Participant in writing of their findings within 45 days of receiving an escalated complaint if accepted for investigation. This time period may be extended and you will be notified as such.

(b) The ATAS Compliance Manager may do any of the following:

i) Seek to resolve the matter through the mutual agreement of both parties;

ii) Find that the Participant has already taken, or proposed to take, action that would sufficiently resolve the complaint;

iii) Recommend to the Participant that particular action be undertaken to address the complaint (provided such action may reasonably be complied with);

iv) Find that the Participant was not in breach of the Code and close the complaint;

v) Find that the Participant was in breach of the Code and refer the matter to the ATAS Complaint Appeal Committee (ACAC) for independent review and determination.

AFTA will contact you in due course.

Good luck!

Let me use my voucher or provide a refund!

Bought a ticket in 2020 that I’ve been wanting to use. It’s been two weeks since I sent an email but still haven’t received a response. My voucher will expire in June so it’s extremely frustrating that they have not bothered to response. Please issue a refund!

Just got the refund from CMF!!!

Just got the refund from CMF!!!
I was in same situation with everyone here, it has been almost 2 years to deal with Checkmyfares only received emails regading 'it's final stage of the refund'. Which was horrible, everyone should do same step which I did to get the refund as soon as possible. First, I had a claim to the bank to process the 'charge back'. It will help to cancel the original purchase. If you already agreed the certain amount of money excluding the cancel fees, your bank possibly refuse to process it. In that case, you should contact to the Fair Trading Australia with all details and emails you received from CMF. FTA tooked almost 3weeks to deal with CMF and just got the refund.I have so many mixed feelings because it tooked almost 2 years to get this result. I wish every get their hard working money as quickest possible and all the best for you guys!!!

My refund will never happen

I concur with previous reviews about this company. I also have been waiting for a refund since 2020 and of course nothing has happened. I was getting return emails for the past two years with various excuses, but now they have even stopped. I was going to put a complaint in to the Department of Fair Trading, but I think I’ll just be wasting more time. Of course I will never deal with them again and they should be shut down.

Zero Stars

My wife and I had booked return flights between Sydney and Cairns for our entire family in 2020 (seven including spouses, around $3000.) Unfortunately, a month out from our flights, a global pandemic closed the Queensland borders.
We sought a refund but were told via email that we were ineligible for one and could only get flight credits that had to be used by a certain date, although all other tourism operators were willing to provide refunds for our other expenditure.
Of course, coordinating seven people was going to be difficult, but my wife and I at least established an opportunity to use two of the credits on a flight to Perth in 2021, which would have been our first visit. This was in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary.
CheckMyFares took over a month to pursue our booking. Not only did they charge $50 per ticket for the transfer, the cost of the flights had more than doubled during that wait time. Thus, we ended up around another $1000 out of pocket.
Unfortunately, then Western Australia closed their borders, just three days out from our flight. Again we contacted CheckMyFares and, after yet another delay, they told us we still couldn't get a refund and that changing to new flights would cost another $50 per ticket and had to be booked by February, 2022. Still no-one would answer the phones.
We contacted them several times early 2022 to try to use our credits, this time to Tasmania. We gave all the necessary information, but once again they have not replied, have not booked, have ignored emails and not answered their phones. My daughter, once a world champion, is missing a highland dance competition because of this disgusting lack of customer service and basic human dignity.
This is a despicable company, determined to ignore and rip off people due to a pandemic that affected everyone. Absolutely appalling and I hope they become insolvent.

I can't even get an email response from this company for my booked and cancelled flights dated 2 years ago due to the pandemic .
All these companies such as Checkmyfares should be deregistered by the government and not allowed to trade until all our credits are rectified .

We have consumer rights !
