5 stars to the staff in the canteen
5 stars to the staff in the canteen, especialy to the indian guy that showed his professionalism approaching and asking if everything is okay and if there is anything else he can do for us,
Awful masage just had to stop it after 5 minutes of laughing behind our back while I was laying, disgusting attitude from the start, one poor cleaner was rerunning on his own with no help, everyone from staff look busy doing nothing just walking around and being useless, mini pool for 7x3 for over 100 people ,came to have a nice rest and just wasted our time and money, all sauna's rooms stink rubber or kind of coals from train station, small changing room no space to turn. For Wednesday was so crowded like in one of those nice summer market days in town.
First and last time.
Disgusting seeing the same masseur (time of massage 17:40 03.04.2024 room 4) that a while ago did massage and now are cleaning floors in the changing room.
2 stars and none were for the spa!
I gave 1 star for the afternoon tea, that was nice and 1 for the back massage that was amazing. As for everything else, it was horrendous, just too many people, completely overbooked, couldn’t get in anywhere. Nowhere to sit at all, the steam rooms had broken furniture and sharp broken tiles. The spa area was not clean (due most probably to the amount of people there) it was far from a relaxing experience. The saving grace was the treatment area, this had the chilled, quiet spa vibe that I was expecting.
The staff were just rude, the lady taking the afternoon tea didn’t even acknowledge us for a good 5 minutes and when she finally did she was extremely rude. Clearly hates her job! The afternoon tea took ages to come even though we had to book a specific time slot.
This spa is huge and beautiful and has such potential for an excellent spa experience, too many people and not enough staff ruined it for us. We left early and disappointed.
Factory vibes
We were about to write a review about the Clifford Spa after we visited today for a 3-8pm slot. Upon reading the reviews we now see that we had a relatively ‘good’ experience in that we did get our afternoon tea and treatment.
We got a deal for £52.50 each which included a 40 min treatment each and afternoon tea so expectations were not high. However, I had hoped that it would be relaxing. It was not.
It was packed with hundreds of people, there were no seats or loungers ever free and the saunas and steam rooms either smelt unpleasant or were busy. The rose steam room was an exception. That was pleasant.
I see now from other reviews where it meant queuing for afternoon tea or having treatments cancelled that actually it gets even busier.
Afternoon tea was a few mediocre sarnies, and cheap cake with some kind of weird cream that disappeared as the knife touched it. Think dissolvable squirty cream. There were no other options for refreshments during the time there unless you count the bar that served either Prosecco or the cheapest instant coffee, not even water except for a couple of machines with a lottery on cups available.
I had foolishly taken a book to read while relaxing there but soon realised that was not possible unless I was to stand up reading it.
When we arrived for the treatment, one of the therapists had her knuckles on ice and I worried about what we were in for. I needn’t have. The treatment was good for me as I am not fussy about touch and so a bit of a rub and tickle on my back I am easy enough to please. However, light touch is my wife’s nightmare so she did not enjoy it. The massage therapists seemed to do part of the massage while sitting on squeaky office chairs which creaked on and off throughout.
We left early as it was too stressful to be loitering around waiting to sit in another hot room to sweat with too many strangers at once.
If you like the feel of being in a busy shopping mall with lots of half naked people and not much space this is for you.
A little disappointed to be honest
A little disappointed to be honest, wasn’t expecting 5🌟 but very over crowded and didn’t feel exclusive. As a first visit to the Clifford I would have thought we would have been given better information as to where things were! We had no idea where our treatments were or where we should go for afternoon tea? So time was wasted trying to navigate around. The staff in the cafe (which was like a staff canteen) were extremely miserable and not sociable at all, very miserable in fact, not a smile between them! And the floors were disgusting and needed sweeping and cleaning and plastic flutes for the Prosecco 🤷♀️
The treatments however were amazing. Full body massage, facial and head massage was fabulous and very relaxing. Very, very nice! 👌
Most importantly i got to spend time with a very lovely and long time friend which was great and we did have a lovely time together and a giggle
I would recommend you avoid this place
I would recommend you avoid this place. By their own admission it "isn't really a spa" and more of a Health Club with extras.
We arrived and left very quickly for a couple of reasons; it was pretty unclean, it was very overcrowded, people were vaping and on their mobile phones inside the "Spa".
We've been to a fair number of local independent Spas and not really come across anything like this. It is very clear their priority is profit and volume.
We tried to deal with this and obtain a refund, but they have now refused this. Thankfully I have the option of legal resources and trading standards as I feel totally mis-sold.
Poor, packed with too many people
Poor. Absolutely packed out! Queuing to get into the place, all the steam rooms and saunas packed out, the cafe absolutely rammed. Not relaxing in the slightest. Definitely will never ever go back. Came out more stressed than when I went in. Wish I’d read others reviews on trustpilot prior to booking. Emailed to let them know, generic email sent back claiming they weren’t at capacity!! I’d hate to be there when it is booked to capacity!
Dussappointing and very overcrowded
Our fourth time here yesterday, a treat for my daughters birthday.
Upon arrival reception was ver crowded and a group of ladies that had a booking were already having issues.
Went into the spa and it was rammed, pools and sauna's were crammed full, no where to sit as all the beds were taken.
We went to our treatments and they were ok...my therapist stroked my back and did a half head massage but it was ok.
Afternoon tea was shocking, waited 25 minutes for it to be bought out and another half hour for the butter cream and jam, during which time we had the staff talking and laughing about us for asking for it, so very rude.
Back into the spa after and it was still so busy so we went and had a shower and left.
The place is far too full for you to have a relaxing and enjoyable spa day its quite obvious that they are just interested in making as much money as possible instead of making uour day as enjoyable as possible!
First went here 8 years ago and…
First went here 8 years ago and absolutely loved it. This time what a difference. Booked a deal for 2. Full use of facilities, afternoon tea, and 40 minute treatment. Firstly no where to sit and relax as the place is now like a cattle market. Apparently if you are a member then you can use the facilities when ever you wish so obviously when you book your day then it's pot luck as to weather its going to be full of members. There isn't enough seating or beds to relax. Afternoon tea well where do I start. Wed paid for prosecco however as we were driving asked if we could have coffee instead. We were informed we would have to come back after as they were busy????went back 30 minutes later to be informed by the sake person they were closed 😆 🤣.
So the 40 minute treatment we booked was now 25 minutes and the person given the full body massage well only on my back did a 5 minute session 5 times and didn't have a clue what they where doing. Basically my view is it was better when it was smaller and now the profits come first as they so often do.
Awful
As a diamond member I can't even tell you how much I regret upgrading my membership to lifetime diamond. Until then I really enjoyed the spa and I upgraded thinking I would enjoy it even more. That was the plan. Boy, was I wrong... treatments are always cut short and of a poor quality, with one exception where I was happy with the quality of the treatment (still was cut short but the girl made up for it with her skills). Last night's treatment was the worst by far, I'm in serious pain today and it's not a good pain. The girl had no skills whatsoever and she shouldn't be massaging people. I have reported those issues before on several occasions but was nothing but ignored. I guess the managers don't care because they don't have to care. I know I'm not alone, there's plenty of people experiencing the same thing and never heard that anything positive was done about it as of yet. It's real shame because I had a lot of faith in you when I decided to upgrade, now I have zero.
Save yourself money...Don't go!!
Never again will I set foot in this dump. Awful experience from beginning to end. A lot of money wasted.
The clifford do their absolute best to sell this place as an amazing spa with regular refurbishment to add new 'amazing' facilities. As a result they oversell and far too many people visit here. I got here for 9am on a Monday morning and it was rammed. People everywhere. It was almost impossible to relax and enjoy it because there were far too many people. We hardly managed to do anything because everywhere was so busy, I have actually relaxed more on a packed tube train in rush hour! Staff were incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful, they made no effort to offer directions where to go. We were never made to feel in anyway welcome. They call this place a 'health club' but its more like a leisure centre with a few heated chairs and foot spas.
A few years ago I nearly became a member here. It was a choice of here or a spa in Northumberland, as I have a second home up there. Thankfully I made the right choice and chose there. The spa there is very peaceful and quiet. Some evenings you can even get the entire place to yourself. The staff know their guests by name, treat everyone with respect and always do their best. Admittedly it is a lot smaller and doesnt have all these ridiculous extras that the clifford try and promote. Just a simple peaceful health club with everything you need including free tea and coffee you can help yourself too when you like. It is a million miles ahead of this ridiculous place.
Save your hard earned money and go somewhere else where you will be respected.
A disappointing day
A disappointing day, we purchased the spa package voucher back in Dec and decided to go for my birthday 11/03.
The receptionist asked if we'd been before, which we hadn't and she proceeded to direct us to all facilities from her desk. We had paid an extra £10 each for robes and a towel, the towel was quite threadbare, and upon finding a locker realised we needed a padlock. Fortunately my friend had her gym bag and had a spare.
The spa itself is lovely with lots of choices of treatment rooms, but sadly there were too many people there. We struggled to find a seat in any of the spaces, and found very limited hooks for towels outside of the steam / sauna rooms.
We'd booked afternoon tea in advance, one veggie. We quued for 20+ minutes just to be seated in the restaurant. Tea was a single cup and juice in a plastic glass, the tea plates were saucers and most of the cafe area was grubby and needed a good clean.
The afternoon tea was basic, with bland, squashed triangle sandwiches. Because of the veggie options my friends meat ones (2) were slopped onto a separate plate. The whole area seemed under staffed, with one lady on reception, escorting to tables and taking drinks orders.
Finally I thought the spa treatment might be the saving grace, sadly not. We opted for the full body massage which left us confused as only the back of our bodies were massaged. With previous full body massage I've been asked to turn part way through the treatment for the arms, shins, and shoulders to be massaged??My therapist never spoke, never asked about the pressure applied, just got on with it. I knew I had a lot of knots on my shoulders but she just seemed to (literally) brush over these. After 30 minutes we were told that was the end of our treatment and our after care card was how to book another package with an offer for today only. No thanks!
Annoyingly when I got home and checked our booking I could see our spa package should have been 50 minutes, not the 30 we were given and afternoon tea should have come with a glass of prosecco.
I wouldn't go back, I think as a gym and spa attached it's great, but not for a relaxing get away. My advice is save your pennies and enjoy a better quality spa such as Aqua Sana and Champagnes.
Too busy and needs a clean
We visited last year and had a lovely time, this time was awful. The spa was so busy, every steam room or sauna had multiple people already. The large pool had a lot of hair floating around in it and the showers next to the pool had no hot water. The steam rooms smelled of drains, even through the oils in there. Everything just looked tired and on need of a clean this time.
The afternoon tea was ok, only one drink allowed though and hardly any jam or cream for the scones. Our friend is dairy intolerant and one sandwich was literally two pieces of cucumber in dry bread.
The treatment area is nice and clean but the massages depend on the person you get. Mine was lovely, my friends were awful. Probably won't visit again after this time.
Absolutely appalling spa
Absolutely appalling spa! Totally overcrowded, very basic afternoon tea. Dirty, scruffy changing rooms.
Terrible experience…
Myself and my husband normally visit the spa a couple of times per year. Unfortunately on our last visit our treatments were terrible, we have a dual massage at the end of the day, during the first part of the massage, one of the therapists got the giggles which then led the other therapist to start, they were snorting and shaking throughout the remainder of the treatment, when they left the room at the end of the treatments, they both started howling with laughter, we both felt extremely uncomfortable, awkward and embarrassed, this completely ruined the whole experience, if you are visiting ensure you avoid therapists Kim A and Jess A! Maybe a bit of training is required on professionalism. The spa is nice if a bit crowded no cups for water etc, wouldn’t visit again

Very overcrowded was like being in a busy train station pool was crowded jacuzzi was crowded very disappointed the young girl who did my partner and mine back massage has damaged my back ive been in pain ever since ...the afternoon tea if you call it that was aweful.the waitress who eventually brought the food dropped one of the sandwiches on the floor and asked if we still.wanted it or a new one!!

Very poor service not had a courtesy call before we came .wasn’t advised to bring a lock and not advices slippers weren’t supplied much too busy hectic everywhere we have been to many spas and this is the worse
Disappointing birthday treat.
Went to the Sap today as a 40th birthday treat as we walked through the doors it was like walking into a seaside bank holiday weekend the places was heaving there was nowhere to sit you couldn’t use any of the facilities as they were all over crowded I can’t comment on the spa treatments or afternoon as we got changed again and left . Although there were plenty of people standing at the front desk complaining that they had to wait extra hours past their slots for treatments and afternoon tea. Clear are booking in far more people than they have the capacity to accommodate.
Spa day
Last Friday, I went for a relaxing day at the spa with my mum and sister, something we've done several times before and always enjoyed despite the crowds. The facilities are great, with plenty of room in each area, even when it's busy. However, the treatments this time were a huge letdown. I usually find them okay for the price, but this time was absolutely terrible. My therapist didn't speak English, which made communication awkward from the start. The treatment itself was subpar; he seemed unsure of what to do and focused on one area to the point of discomfort. I had to repeatedly ask him to stop and move on, which only added to the awkwardness. Eventually, I had to make an excuse to leave. Even then, the therapist waited for me outside the restroom, forcing me to seek help from another staff member. While the manager offered a treatment refund, so I could return again and have the treatment - their lack of concern and professionalism left much to be desired. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I'm not eager to return. The poor service and indifferent attitude make it feel like they're just churning through customers without caring about their satisfaction.
Absoulte theives.

Agreed to rebook a visit because of weather and now ignoring all contact from us. Despite over a dozen chase up calls, half a dozen emails and multiple promises to call back - nothing.
Why agree to allow us to rebook in writing then renege on that? No way to run a business.
