In the world of finance CLOSE BROS are a well known highly respected bank.
Today I placed some funds with them & was very fortunate to speak with a most charming, polite, helpful , professional & knowledgeable lady. Two problems with close brothers…
Two problems with Close Brothers Savings (closesavings.co.uk)
First you have to be careful. It is so easy to try to access your savings account from one of Close Brothers many different sites on the internet without realizing you are at the wrong one. My husband tried to get savings website for an hour yesterday - wondering why his details were not being accepted - without realising he was trying to get into their identical-looking motor finance website.
Second - more important
When he did get into his account he found no mention of the interest we had accrued even though the money was in an interest earning easy saver account. The only amount showing was his initial deposit from last year and no mention anywhere of interest being paid. Nothing. Just the original investment. Very poor. And if he wanted to withdraw the money right now he would only be able to withdraw the initial deposited amount. Very very Poor.

Interest is paid annually on our easy access accounts, so the accrued interest will be added once the funds in the account have reached a full year. However, please be assured that if your husband did wish to request closure of the account, he would receive any interest accrued to date.

I called at 9am and by 9:10am, everything was sorted as promised by Alan-Na.

Just opened a 1 Year Fixed Cash ISA and transferred funds from another provider. Application and transfer request all completed online with minimal hassle. Account setup, online registration and actual transfer completed quickly and efficiently. Impressed so far.

Disappointing
I found the fixed ISA account setup process with Close Brothers to be disappointing. My suggestion would be for them to streamline the process to make it quicker and more user-friendly. It would also help if they displayed all incoming transfers to your account, not just those of £10,000 or more. This would give clients more confidence and reassurance that their money is being handled properly, rather than feeling like it's disappeared into a void. There was no confirmation that my initial deposit had been received, which left me uneasy, so I cancelled. Ironically, the only reassurance I received was when they returned my deposit. Overall, I got the sense that they weren’t particularly interested in whether I invested with them or not, and that indifference suited me just fine.

£25 charge for missed payment is…
£25 charge for missed payment is scandalous.
They phoned me after me filling iut all my details online, for a quick run through of the details. It was basically to catch me out and up my payments. It took another hour or so. Ridiculous.

Great service! I rang up and spoke to someone called Henry he helped me sort out my issue and he was extremely polite and understanding which is very refreshing this day and age. I've never had to wait too long to speak to someone either which I also like.

My Application for a 5yr ISA was simple and straight forward. It was online and was quick. The rate offered was market leading at the time. (may vary when you people read this). I would recommend them especially if their interest rates are near the top of the interest tables at the time you want to invest.,
