It was my first time visiting Milan and unfortunately the experience was very negative.

The city may have a great history, but today it presents itself as the perfect reflection of the “Psycho-Nano”: modern, orderly and efficient on the surface, yet behind this façade it feels as if an old spirit still lingers within the administration. The overall impression is extremely unpleasant – the approach feels cold and soulless.

It appears to be a system designed to lead non-residents, through a labyrinth of zones and non-transparent rules, into chargeable situations – ruthless, harsh and fully automated. Anyone entering as a tourist is hardly treated as a guest, but rather as a simple source of revenue for the city.

Not even in Paris or London does one encounter such a subtle and insidious approach.

This impression also seems to be reflected in online reviews, where the Comune di Milano receives very low ratings (for example around 1.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot).

For me, this was – also due to this experience, but not only – the first and most likely also the last visit to Milan.
