Paid £578 for Express Shipping, Received Standard Service and No Refund

I am extremely disappointed with my experience ordering vinyls for my debut album from Cram Duplication. I paid an additional £578 for express shipping, which promised a turnaround time of 4–6 weeks. I did order test pressings, which add another 1-2 weeks onto the lead time. My order was placed on 14th October 2024, meaning my vinyls should have arrived 25th November 2024, and at the latest 9th December due to test pressings. Instead, they were not delivered until 13 weeks later—which is even longer than the company’s standard, non-express turnaround time. The vinyls were purchased by my customers on pre order, and this delay significantly impacted my ability to fulfil orders on time, thus affecting my business and reputation.

I’d like to acknowledge Adam, who was incredibly helpful in ensuring my cover designs were correct for printing. He was patient and guided me through adjustments to get them just right, which I really appreciated. However, this positive experience does not excuse the significant delay in delivery, especially when I paid a substantial premium for express service.

When I raised this issue with the company, they claimed that delays were caused by their Christmas shutdown (23rd December – 3rd January). However, this explanation falls flat, as my order was already overdue well before the holiday period began. Although in my case the Christmas shutdown was irrelevant, there was no information on their website regarding the lead times around Christmas being affected. Despite pointing this out, the company has repeatedly refused to issue a refund for the £578 express shipping charge.

Their defenses—stating that the 4–6 week timeframe is “approximate”—fail to acknowledge the significant delay and the fact that I paid a substantial premium for express service, which was clearly not provided.

As an independent artist, timely service is crucial to meeting professional deadlines, and this ordeal has been incredibly frustrating while causing unnecessary stress and financial strain. I expected much better from a company operating in this space, particularly given the amount of money involved.

I strongly caution others to carefully consider their options before ordering from Cram Duplication, especially if you are planning to pay for their express shipping service. Based on my experience, it does not deliver on its promises, and customer service is unresponsive when issues arise.

*My response to Cram Duplication reply*

Dear Cram Duplication,

I find it disappointing that rather than addressing the core issue professionally, you have resorted to an aggressive and dismissive response. Your reply does not change the fundamental facts:

1. I paid £578 for an express service that was clearly stated as 4–6 weeks plus 1–2 weeks for test pressings. Even accounting for test pressings, my order should have arrived no later than 9th December. Instead, I did not receive my vinyls until 15th January—13 weeks after my order, significantly longer than your advertised express timeframe.

2. Your mention of Christmas closures is irrelevant, as my order was already overdue before this period even began. Furthermore, your website did not indicate any impact on lead times due to seasonal closures at the time of my purchase.

3. While I acknowledge that lead times are approximate, a delay of nearly double the expected timeframe goes beyond any reasonable interpretation of “approximate.” If the service I paid for had been delivered within a reasonable margin of your stated timeframe, I would not be raising this issue.

4. I never refused to acknowledge “working days” or any other definitions as you claim. Instead, I repeatedly sought clarity on why my order took longer than your standard non-express service when I paid a premium for expedited production. Rather than addressing this, you have deflected with personal attacks.

5. Your claim that my records were pressed “just under 9 working weeks” is misleading. Regardless of how you calculate “working weeks,” the reality remains that the order took 13 full weeks, which is significantly outside of the timeframe you advertised.

6. The mention of you assisting with my artwork is irrelevant to this issue. I paid for a service that was not delivered as promised. Offering guidance on artwork does not justify failing to fulfil a paid express service.

Rather than handling this matter with professionalism, you have chosen to publicly insult a paying customer, claiming I “ignored facts” and “messed up,” and even suggesting other suppliers avoid working with me. This kind of response only further demonstrates the poor level of customer service I have experienced throughout this process.

Reply from Cram Duplication

Hi Sean,

I did advise giving a true account of the facts, which you have chosen not to do. Thankfully we get a chance to defend ourselves.

Responses to you were always quick and thorough - and a lot of the time were out of office hours, but you just didn't want to hear the responses. You haven't heard from me since last week becasue as I explained again for possibly the 5th time (for the reasons laid out below) you weren't entitled to a refund morally or legally. You messed up, you ignored facts and you didn't take in any of the info in front of you and you set a date that came around so quickly it made you panic.

What you have left out is that as explained many many, many times to you: (and you chose to ignore in the most bizarre way that I've never experienced with a customer) the pressing part of the order is APPROX 4-6 weeks and the test pressing you ordered in addition added another 2 weeks to that. It says so very clearly on everything.

Us and our plants also closed for Christmas and New Year. Another fact you refused to acknowledge.

You also refused to acknowledge the meaning of the word 'approximate'.

You refused to acknowledge what 'working weeks' or 'working days' mean.

You also refused to acknowledge the terms and conditions on the invoice you paid and the website you ordered from which states very clearly again and again that LEAD TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE.

You chose to ignore the website product description advising against arranging any dates until you have a shipping confirmation.

You also chose to ignore all of these facts in duplicate in large bold text at the foot of each and every email we sent you.

As it happened your records were pressed in just under 9 working weeks which is a few days outside of the approximate total lead time of 6-8 working weeks.
Had you opted for a standard lead time, with TP and the Xmas shutdown they would have taken approximately 16 weeks. That is in fact what you paid extra the for - to get them 7 weeks faster than normal.

I tried to get you on the phone several times in case it was the written word that was confusing you and that a conversation might help get the facts across but you refused and instead chose to continue to bombard us via email.

--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------

In summary, we delivered exactly what we said we would in a fair and reasonable interpretation of the meaning of an approximate lead time and still we have endured threats and accusations of lying for the last few weeks. In light of the fact Sean wouldn't have any CDs or vinyl if we hadn't fixed all of his artwork for him free of charge, I can honestly say we've all been left upset and disappointed by this person. Any suppliers should avoid Sean Mann or risk the possibility of having their livelihood defamed unreasonably.

Superb service beyond the call of duty!

WOW! Amazing company and incredible value for the small fish like me. 100 CDs ordered completely hassle free, no phonecalls, just a few emails. Card singles ordered x 50. I send over the two tracks WAV files, the artwork and label for the cd (which they kindly adjusted for free, the colour bleed etc) and that was that. I had the CDs within days - all absolutely stunning! As Arnold Schwarzenegger says - I'll be back!
