Traversing the Atlantic on the Queen…

Traversing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2 is an amazing experience and a way to switch off and relax. Arriving into NYC in the early morning and watching the sunrise over the skyline is an absolute wonder. As she is the only remaining ocean liner in the world, it is a joy to travel on her. Would recommend.

Rave review

We can’t imagine a more
Magnificent ship. The service was far beyond what we expected. Everything was first class and the staff very professional. Can’t say enough good things about our experience.

The crew makes the voyage...

The crew is the true embodiment of White Star Service. Everyone from the ships Head Engineer, James, to my room steward, Anthony, and my Britannia restaurant servers B&S were comfortable, kind, and an absolute pleasure to interact with. The service was better than any 5 star hotel I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and cost me 20% as much as it would have cost me to stay in one of those hotels for a week. Beyond the excellent service are the options. Options for food. Options for activities. Options for classes. Options for entertainment. Options for sports. You name it, they most likely have something like it, and who doesn't want the opportunity to experience new things? The Queen Elizabeth was an Art Deco marvel, and I am delighted I had the pleasure of sailing on her.

Sailing to Norway in the Summertime.

My wife, our friends and I have just returned from a 2 week trip aboard the Cunard - Queen Anne, traveling north to Norway. I chose to sail as it meant leaving from a UK port rather than flying, I chose Norway as we wanted to try something different which doesn't rely on sunshine and beaches for a change. We chose Canard as we hadn't sailed with them before and a number of our family and friends had said very good things about them. We were not disappointed. The ship (Queen Anne) and her crew and company were exceptional, it was a great experience and we were made to feel very special. The food was outstanding and the entertainment was first class, something for everyone. Norway was breathtaking, particularly the fjords, views mountains and people. If I.m being honest I would have like it to be colder, temperatures ranged from 10 to 19 degree's, while this was a massive relief from the heatwave at home, I was hoping to see more snow lower down the mountains especially when we were above the artic circle, 'in the land of the midnight sun', but; it was a great holiday and one I would recommend. The only downside I think; was the drinks packages. I think they are too expensive and unnecessarily expensive, particularly the basic non-alcoholic package, £378 extra and very restricted. My advise would be don't take them, pay as you go, you'll get what you want and won;t be disappointed; bar although bar prices are high and always come with a separate service charge. The shore visits and excursions are good, the local guides are exceptional and the overall experience is always a 10!

Still not sure if I enjoyed the voyage

I am really surprised at the other comments so far about the same voyage. Queen Anne is a lovely ship with plenty of space to move around. Boarding was a nightmare that took us a day to recover from. We were asked to arrive later than planned which of course coincided with all the coaches. Who could possibly have foreseen that! This resulted in standing in a two hour queue in 80 degree heat with no aircon in the terminal building. And we are not daft out here Cunard -we all know that Norovirus had been on board, just be honest. After a deep clean, it might be expected that the room would be spotless-it was not.Hair and dust in the drawers, coffee spilt in one and grubby TV remote and ‘phone.
Apart from the Jane Austen play, the entertainment was poor and far too loud. Lecturers were uninspiring- history of plastic surgery anyone? It would have good to have some one who knew a bit about Norway.
North Cape was the only excursion, which, thanks to the weather, was great. You should consider sending at least one crew member to make sure that everyone understands how the return works. There was a lot of grumbling about it by people who didn’t bother to read the description.
Food was at best average. Deck 3 freedom was crowded, noisy and dark so we ate mostly in the buffet.
Still the best scones anywhere but no clotted cream. Small economies matter.
Overall it was one of those voyages where the destinations and stunning scenery were worth the effort but as a holiday, it was disappointing.

There's a sense of love on board Cunard's Queen Anne

The specific destination - the Arctic Circle and North Cape of Norway - was the reason for booking with Cunard. Our first experience of Cunard and Queen Anne was delightful and most relaxing. Plenty of well-timed shore excursions and opportunities to explore individually if that is one's preference. On board there is space and comfort, with entertainment throughout the day and a variety of bars and lounges.
The quality of the stateroom was very good. The service throughout the ship is excellent. All the crew are friendly and welcoming, even those who are not specifically customer-facing.
It was my 70th birthday while I was on board and I was made to feel very special.
Queen Anne is a town on the sea. Behind that is an organisation, headed by the Captain, that is efficient and effective. It is more than that though. There is a sense of love on board, an ethos created by the leadership team and delivered by the crew, which passengers reciprocate.

Wonderful cruise to the fjords and the Arctic

We have recently returned from a Queen Anne cruise to the fjords and the Arctic Circle and had a wonderful holiday. The whole aura of the ship was enjoyable and the ports visited and the staggering scenery all made for a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend any Norwegian/Arctic cruise with Cunard.

Dress code standards

I always look forward to travelling with cunard and enjoy the sense of occasion and dressing up in the evenings; to me it is part of the experience. However on our last Norway cruise on board Queen Anne we were disappointed to see that the dress code had sunk to a new low....... Getting dressed up, especially on a gala night to see guests being admitted to the restraunt and bars in shorts and t-shirts was disappointing. I hope this is not evidence of a downturn in Cunard standards???

'Queue'nard's Queen Anne

'Queue'nard's Queen Anne
Having perviously travelled on Cunard's older ships we booked a trip on Queen Anne to the
Norwegian Fjords. What a shock was awaiting us.
We were notified in advance that embarkation would be delayed by 1.5hours, when we arrived
there was a long queue outside the terminal, embarkation was lengthy and confusing. The chosen
Mayflower Berth was a long way from Southampton Centre, you really need a taxi.
Queen Anne caters for approximately 1000 more passengers than Cunard's other ships, however
the communal areas are no bigger, the result is that everywhere is crowded and at times it is
impossible to get a seat anywhere on the ship. It has a very busy, congested and noisy feel. It's
impossible to find anywhere to relax due to loud conversations and mobile phones on
loudspeakers.
Gone is the traditional Captains reception with bubbly.
The promenade deck is narrow with no room for any loungers to relax upon as on the other ships.
At times there were long queues for the Brittania restaurant and at times it can be difficult to get a
seat in the Buffet. The buffet is no longer self service and so you need to move from queue to
queue to get served.
The Afternoon Tea is always way oversubscribed in the Queen's Room, though to be fair we were
offered an alternative eating area on one occasion. The cream for the scones is now synthetic, not
clotted as it was on the other ships. The sandwiches are dry and bland.
The talks were dumbed down compared to previous voyages to reflect the change in target
customer. Gone is the string quartet at afternoon tea, replaced by an electric guitar duo
reminiscent of a working man's club.
There are now supplements required for most meals taken in the Golden Lion Pub to reflect
Michel Roux's endorsement.
The cruise attracts customers of the upper age group and is tailored to attract that customer
base, so be prepared to wait for mobility devices to be loaded when rejoining the ship at busy
times, not really a problem as long as you know what to expect prior to booking the cruise.
Some port visits are small towns with little of interest other than local shops selling tourist tat,
though we did find some challenging hillside walks. Many points of interest were often closed on
the day that the ship docked, such as cathedrals at Tromso. The small port venues were
swamped and overloaded with the combined cruise numbers from this ship and often several
other ships on the same day.
The food was very average fair, acceptable quality but dull, unimaginative and repetitive.
The very loud music being played at venues throughout the ship can be heard in the cabins most
of the day.
The Sunday Service led by the captain is no longer, though there was a Jewish Sabbath Service.
The staff overall were good, though for the first time on a Cunard Cruise I was curtly shouted at
across the room by a member of staff, just a reflection of the falling standards.
This ship is Cunard's latest attempt to screw as much revenue out the customers with no regard
to their previous reputation for quality which attracted their loyal customers. There is undoubtably
better value with other operators as Cunard is no longer a premium brand, just an expensive
alternative to similar budget cruises. This is the worst cruise experience I have ever encountered,
far from my previously relaxing experiences.
