Honest Review

I was influenced by all the positive reviews, but I now want to share my honest experience. Unfortunately, I had a very poor experience with Datapacket.

If you choose this expensive provider mainly for its DDoS protection, you may end up making a big mistake. I experienced firsthand exactly what I mean.

There is no always-on mitigation. That would be okay if the mitigation kicked in quickly, but I was literally locked out of my server during an attack for more than 30 minutes. On top of that, when you need help, they basically tell you the same basic things you already know. You don’t really receive proper assistance or an actual solution to your problem, nor do you feel genuinely supported or welcomed when making requests.

In the end, they simply tell you to cancel the service. And if you do cancel, you won’t even receive a full refund.

So, you end up paying a lot of money for a poor experience without actually getting the support or solution you expected.

If you don’t have any DDoS issues, their hosting is good, but it’s still far too expensive. I paid more than €700, and for the same amount of money, you can get roughly double the specifications from competition.

This review is misleading and leaves out one rather important fact: the server was never provisioned.

Your order was still in provisioning while our team assessed whether we could support your DDoS requirements. We repeatedly asked for the technical and project details needed for that assessment, involved our network team, and ultimately concluded that we could not provide the service you needed.

The order was therefore cancelled and your payment was refunded in full.

That also makes the claim that you were "locked out of your server during an attack for more than 30 minutes" impossible. There was no active DataPacket server under your account to be locked out of.

You are free to criticise our pricing or disagree with our decision not to proceed with the service; those are your subjective opinions. Whether a server was provisioned and whether you received a full refund are not.

Best regards,
Simon

It's a clownish organisation

It's a clownish organisation, took twice as long to provision server, then sent the wrong credentials, then tried to add a drive but took them 7 days because they only have a tech at the DC twice a week and when they got there, they could not do it because of a cable, then tried to upgrade the server, but that failed too because the ram went bad....it was a joke i ended up cancelling, the whole thing took 10 days of wasting time

Hi Spiro,

Thank you for the feedback, and I am sorry for the rough start. The provisioning delay, the wrong credentials, the cabling issue on the drive add, and then the failed RAM upgrade were all real, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. That stretch did not reflect the standard we hold ourselves to.

What I would add for context is what happened after. We issued a full refund with no conditions, provisioned a new server for you at no charge for the first month, and have kept it running and supported since, including resolving the reboot and lockout issues quickly when they came up. I do not think we got everything right, but I believe we put real effort into making it right.

The door is open if anything else comes up. You can always reach me directly.

A little difficulty with the daily plan.

Initially, I had a problem hiring a dedicated server with daily payment. The sales department contacted me to apologize, which made me try again.
Based on my experience, I will list the positive and negative points:

Positive Points:
-The administration panel is easy to understand and manipulate, including the payment/deposit section, providing very clear and objective information.
-Apart from a single specific incident for clients of a specific link, I had no problems with service instability; in fact, it had excellent stability.
-The latency is undoubtedly a very positive point; compared to OVH (Vint Hill), they offer something better, about 20-50ms less difference depending on the client's location.

Negative Points:
-There is a communication failure via ticket. They need to improve this.
-The DDoS/Firewall protection system of the panel does not offer many options, with no possibility of allowing or blocking a port or a type of connection (UDP, TCP). It would be very good if these options were added to the panel.
- It's a bit bureaucratic to sign up for the daily payment plan.
- There could be more dedicated server options available, with slightly simpler hardware, which would make it cheaper, like a Ryzen 5 7600.

I recommend the company and its services.

Hello Lincoln,

Thank you for sharing this, and I'm sorry for the experience. You're right, the service you received during the signup process was not good enough.

Some context: we recently rolled out new pricing on our website, and as part of that transition, we've been running order verification manually to make sure the process works smoothly before fully automating it. The intention was to avoid bothering new customers with unnecessary friction. Unfortunately, the reality was the opposite in your case, and that's on us.

This week, we are rolling out fully automated verification for standard orders. New personal accounts go through Stripe KYC, and once verified, servers are provisioned without waiting on our team. Company orders are also streamlined, with manual review only where specifically needed. The kind of delay you experienced should no longer happen.

On the messaging response times: you're right, and we're actively working on improving that. I won't pretend it's where it needs to be yet.

If you're still interested in testing our infrastructure, please email me directly at simon@datapacket.com. I'll handle your onboarding personally and set you up with 7 days free of charge. You wanted to try our service, and I'd like to make that possible.

Review of using for about 3 monthes

Good point:
1) Build-in ddos protection
2) Almost concurrent pricing
3) Stability is wonderfull
4) Sales team working fast

Bad points:
1) DDOS working only with HUGE attacks, I had smaller one, it still affect my services, but support told deal with it ourselfs.
2) Do not understand pricing for traffic... it's seems strange and unpredictable for some services.
3) I was denied to refund the rest from balance, it's also seems strange.
4) For everything I need to contact with support team or sales, even to terminate server. Yes they callback fast, but it is not comfortable.

Hi Maksim,

Thank you for the detailed review. Glad to hear the DDoS protection, pricing, stability, and sales responsiveness are working well for you.

Let me address each of the points you raised:

On DDoS thresholds: Our Shield is configured with default thresholds that target large-scale attacks, but you can customize PPS and BPS thresholds per server directly in the client panel under Shield settings. This lets you fine-tune detection to match your specific traffic patterns and catch smaller attacks that fall below the defaults. If you haven't explored that yet, it should help.

On traffic pricing: We understand that usage-based billing can feel unpredictable when traffic fluctuates day to day. Traffic costs are visible in the client panel, but if the billing felt unclear, that's something we'd be happy to walk through with you. We're also continually working on making pricing more transparent across the board.

On the balance refund: Our top-up system is designed to be used toward services, and when there are no issues with the service itself, we do expect the balance to be applied to future use rather than refunded. We understand that can feel frustrating, and we appreciate the feedback.

On self-service: You're right that many actions currently require contacting support. We're building out more self-service capabilities in the client panel, including automated server cancellation. We're an enterprise-focused provider, which means we lean toward personal support, but we recognize that not everything needs a conversation, and we're working to find the right balance.

Thanks again for the honest feedback, Maksim. It's genuinely useful.

I don't recommend this for game servers

I had been using their services for over three months, and everything was going great until a 340 Gbps UDP attack hit my server. Immediately after, they gave me just 24 hours to migrate to another platform. This was extremely disappointing, especially since my regular legitimate traffic never exceeded 30 Mbps at the 95th percentile.
To be fair, I have no complaints regarding their stability or hardware. Uptime was excellent, there were no network outages, and the ping was the best you could get. However, if you run game servers and face a DDoS attack, they will simply drop you instead of mitigating it.

Hi Vadym,

Thank you for the balanced review. We're glad the hardware, uptime, and network performance met your expectations during your time with us.

We've had a chance to look into your case, so I can address the DDoS situation specifically. Our built-in Shield is designed to mitigate volumetric and L4 protocol-based attacks, which it does automatically and without limits. The attack targeting your server was an L7 (application-layer) attack on your game server port, which is a fundamentally different category. L7 mitigation requires application-level filtering (such as a WAF or reverse proxy) and falls outside the scope of network-level DDoS protection.

This is an important distinction. For volumetric and L4 attacks, our Shield works exactly as intended. We host infrastructure for gaming companies like Nodecraft, DatHost, and ESL, and DDoS mitigation is a routine part of serving that market. That said, we recognize that L7 attacks are a growing concern in gaming specifically, which is why we're currently running a closed beta for L7 gaming protection with select customers. It's not something we offered at the time of your case, but it's an area we're actively investing in.

Looking at the ticket, our team responded on the same day with a technical explanation and followed up multiple times. Your March invoice was also refunded in full. Where we fell short was in the transition from "we'll look into solutions" to a termination notice. That could have been communicated better, and I appreciate you flagging it.

We wish you the best with your new setup.

One word: professional

Professionalism is one of the most important things in a company, and I found DataPacket to be highly professional in my one year+ experience with them. Their support service always makes sure that you are satisfied with their solution no matter what is the issue. If you are upset about anything they will offer you refunds or discounts. They are also very reliable in my experience, I only had one hardware-caused downtime so far, which they resolved fairly quickly.

Top Quality

I started using Datapacket in early 2023. I've used many network and server providers over the past decade, both expensive and budget companies in various regions. As someone who is price sensitive for rented hardware I was a bit concerned but they were willing to work with me. I usually am pretty picky about network and server providers I use, and strictly avoid companies that have ethical concerns, and this is especially limiting in some ways and is one reason I originally wanted to work with them due to their experience and history. The servers I use are primarily for business purposes, so reliability is my main concern, second being able to have good access to modern hardware. Especially in non-US locations, being able to get newer hardware isn't always easy unless you colocate your own. Datapacket has a big selection, albeit not always available, but usually much more capacity than anyone else especially in more niche locations.

The integration for servers in the management website has always been flawless, if you've used multiple types of hardware you know things like problematic IPMI can be a PITA especially when you need it to work, but I've never experienced any problems like that here - the hardware and management just works, so clearly everything is tested well. Future maintenance and status reports are very easily accessible and reliable, which is ironically hard to find for some reason with so many in the industry. Their DDoS protection is great for general purpose capabilities, and has saved me from pretty large attacks without even noticing until after the fact paired with my own. If you're experienced with the hardware and software you use, you know how to optimize things, and run a business that needs reliability (and predictability) then there's really few companies that are out there that have the professionalism, network, and hardware that they do.

Poor Customer Support After Hardware Failure

I've been using DataPacket for 3 months and experienced a critical hardware disk failure on server DP-31535.

WHAT HAPPENED:
- Server disk failed (hardware issue, not user error)
- Complete data loss including customer credentials
- Significant business disruption and downtime
- Server was running standard business applications (low I/O workload)

THEIR RESPONSE:
- Provided replacement server (appreciated)
- However, completely refused any compensation or service credit
- Blamed RAID 0 configuration despite hardware being their responsibility
- No acknowledgment of business impact or goodwill gesture

THE ISSUE:
While I chose RAID 0 for performance, hardware failures are the provider's responsibility. A disk shouldn't fail within 3 months due to defect, regardless of RAID level or workload intensity.

My server was running lightweight business applications - not heavy I/O operations, scraping, or resource-intensive tasks. When I requested minimal compensation (even 1 month credit) for the business disruption caused by THEIR faulty hardware, it was flatly denied.

IMPACT:
- Lost customer credentials requiring complete re-authentication
- Multiple hours of system restoration
- Customer trust damage
- Zero accountability from DataPacket

VERDICT:
Hardware works fine when it works, but don't expect any support or compensation when their equipment fails. Consider providers with better customer service policies like Hetzner or OVH.

Would not recommend for business-critical applications.

Hi Taygun,

I've reviewed the incident and the related communication. I want to confirm the following:

1) We are responsible for the hardware and, accordingly, we have provided a replacement server.
2) However, we are not responsible for the selected RAID level. RAID0 provides no redundancy, so a single drive failure can result in total data loss. It is widely accepted that RAID is not a backup; regardless of RAID level, it does not replace having separate backups.

In line with our SLA, we will provide compensation for the server downtime from the time of the failure until a replacement server was provided, as described here:
https://www.datapacket.com/service-level-agreement

However, we will not be providing the requested free month.

Finally, to clarify expectations: providers, including the two you named in your review, typically cover hardware replacement and service availability under SLA terms, but do not compensate for customer data loss.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I am happy to help.

Kind regards,
Matej

All great!

Great hardware, great network and great support.

I made a mistake and ordered SSD instead of NVMe, and they were kind enough to not charge me for it and replaced the drives in a timely fashion.

The support has been great, which is important and not usual in the hosting business.

Hi Romuald,

Thank you for your feedback. To clarify, the reasons for the account termination were clearly communicated via email. Despite a single-server deployment, we received hundreds of support requests, including frequent configuration changes, and your account also had a history of unpaid invoices. I trust this clarifies why continued service became unsustainable.
